Gitsplitta
Fantastic work! Really brings back a bit of nostalgia :D! Great paintwork too. My only criticism would be that on a couple of the marines the bolter silencer looks a bit strange as its a thinner tube on the end of the exsisting barrel. Otherwise I really dig your work :D Thanks Imalwayscold. Yeah, those were my home-made sniper barrels rather than snagging them off of existing sniper rifles. The walls of the brass tubing I used for the suppressor were too thin. At table-top distance you don't notice it, but in close-up it does show. I'll be trying to find some plastic tubing rather than the brass that is the right diameter & has thicker walls, so it looks closer to the proportions it should have. @Exhumed: Would love to see them! I miss the old camo schemes... luckily this project gave me a good excuse to resurrect one of them!
Gitsplitta
Latest effort. Sergeant for the squad. Highly converted so I thought I'd add a before/after pic as well as a standard shot of the fig from various angles. His helmet is damaged and in pieces on the ground (though none of these shots show that well). http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/1/5/169822_sm-Mantis%20Warriors,%20Sergeant,%20Space%20Marines,%20Sternguard,%20Tranquility,%20Warhammer%2040,000.jpg http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/1/5/169821_sm-Mantis%20Warriors,%20Sergeant,%20Space%20Marines,%20Sternguard,%20Tranquility,%20Warhammer%2040,000.jpg
lee265
These guys are awsome. I love the paintjob on the sargents powerfist to go with the rest of the excelent paint work which is covering some very good conversions for all the models. Hope to see a lot more. Gitsplitta
I realize this isn't Tranquility pattern, but I though you might be interested in what my normal Mantis Warriors would look like. This is the very first "green" that I've done. It's got a custom pad that I designed myself (made by Chapterhouse) and helmet sculpted by a friend in New Zealand. He's for a trade with a friend which is why the base is not complete, just painted white to differentiate it from the figure. This scheme represents the chapter after it returns from crusade... I call them "Mantis Warriors Penitent" and the purple field on the shoulder pad is the ecumenical color associated with penance. The basic color and blending were done with my new airbrush, which was quite an adventure. Still crude but I'm sure I'll get better with time. adamB411
Those look awesome! That has to be the biggest pain in the but paint scheme ever though.
Reldn
Those look awesome! That has to be the biggest pain in the but paint scheme ever though. You should take a look at the Minotaurs. *chuckles* Not only would it be a pain to paint, but, has the added effect of being rather headache-inducing. Loving the look of those Mantis Warriors! Great job.
Gitsplitta
Thanks guys! Yeah, the tranquility pattern is kind of a pain but the camo goes quickly once you figure out a couple of ways to paint it (method is determined by brush access in any one particular spot). The real issue is getting the yellow to look right. They're wet-blended which takes a while but works nicely... since I usually only attempt one or two figures at a shot it's really not that big an issue. Chapter Master Ignis Domus
Give your friend a big thanks. That helmet is great. And on the subject of hard-to-paint schemes: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/thumb/6/61/Celebrants.gif/200px-Celebrants.gif The Celebrants. I found this on Lexicanum here. The scheme is supposed to be red fading to yellow.
Gitsplitta
Do you have any pics of your figures? That is a spectacular scheme!
Chapter Master Ignis Domus
That's not the scheme I paint my army in normally. I just found it on Lexicanum. I've tried a couple models, but couldn't get the slow transition right.
tyrannosaurus
This is the thread that keeps on giving, was loving the camo guys then you start doing green ones too! That green mantis is awesome, the shoulderpad is superb as is the helmet. Have to say I'm not a fan of the purple on the pad or the pistol, seems to take away from the mini a little but that's a tiny thing. Want to see more :)
Gitsplitta
I appreciate your candor tyrrano. I may try one in gold (yellow) just to see what it looks like, but since the purple has a specific purpose it's a little hard to abandon it. I do welcome your comments though... thank you! Wicced
i love your tranquility pattern paint jobs ^_^ the green one looks good too, even if i'd preferred a lighter green, but i'm no fan of the helmet, looks kinda crooked to me. just my 2 cents
Gitsplitta
By crooked do you mean asymmetrical, like left to right? Just trying to grasp your concerns properly...

lee265
The green helmet looks uneven because the mandibles on the helmet look like they are different sizes. I like these guys. the painting is excelent on top of great conversions.

Gitsplitta
Latest offerings: a pair of Mk-1 Razorbacks. Not tranquility pattern but part of the overall force. Will get back to T-pattern figs with the next round of figs. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/1/25/177733_sm-Mantis%20Warriors,%20Razorback,%20Space%20Marines,%20Warhammer%2040,000.jpg http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/1/25/177697_sm-Mantis%20Warriors,%20Razorback,%20Space%20Marines,%20Warhammer%2040,000.jpg I'm trying to decide if I should try weathering them or not. I'm none too sure about my ability to actually DO the weathering properly and I don't want to screw them up, so I'm a bit nervous about the prospect. Aqui
I'm no expert on painting, but when I was trying out a better way of painting white for a Venerable Dreadnought I'm working on (lots of evenly applied thin layers), I used a few spare parts to test the process out. That way, you won't ruin what you've already accomplished :)

Aqui
forgive my silly Q, but why do the MW call it tranquility pattern? I recall a battle called the "Siege of Tranquility" from waaaaay back, but I can't find anything much about it :)
Brother Ataloss
Gitsplitta, great name, great paint job. 20+ year old marines? Ye gods, you've been playing this as long as I have! Love the silencers, may have to (ahem) requisition that idea, In Nomine Impertor, for more sneaky Sternguard. Very nice job.
