Yeah, that was me! I had the same reaction to yours - great stuff that seemed so obvious after reading it. Yours is definitely more in-line with the 40k universe - I think I got a little sidetracked by "hey, this is neat!" . . .

 

On a slightly related note, I really like how this project is shaping up - can't wait to see what's next

Okay, a little later than hoped, but you've all seen the results.

 

Our Chapter displays company affiliation upon the right kneepad (that's the black one :mellow: ), using white Roman numerals (e.g., I, III, IX).

 

So let's get right into the next element/challenge...

 

Element 6: Chapter Name

Although I was hoping to be able to suggest 'Space Hawks' for a name, that's been decidedly shot down. :lol:

For those that haven't been following the rumors discussion on Imperial Armour Volume Ten: The Badab War - Part Two, one of the revelations is that the Inceptors were decimated by the Minotaurs, and then other bad stuff happened. So we're going to have to be sure to get a good summary of the info from IA10 on the Inceptors in order to ensure that nothing we do for the Successor is inconsistent (and perhaps you guys want to take that IA10 stuff and run with it).

 

I find it ironic that I pick a named Chapter specifically for the lack of information we have on it, and then Forge World turns around and gives us a doozy of a story on them. :D :lol:

 

Note that I should be getting my copy soon, so I'll take care of gathering all of the relevant information.

Considering that this event happened in the second half of M41 (somewhere between 053-077.M41), it is unlikely to affect the Chapter beyond precluding it from being a 26th Founding Successor. The only other effects we would likely see, would be in the Successor's reaction to what happened to it's parent Chapter. Edited January 9, 2011 by Heru Talon

There's no need to change our DIY Chapter's parent Chapter, nor is there a need to work the new material in. Whether or not the Minotaurs material factors into our DIY is up to you guys. We'll see what gets submitted and what you guys vote for.

And we have our winner. The name of our DIY Chapter is "Obsidian Hunters", submitted by Brother Cambrius. Brother Cambrius is already a contributor, so I'm going to have to get off my duff to create some different banners for those that get more than one element in our DIY Chapter. I'll post the new banner for him once I get it done. Congratulations to Brother Cambrius for another job well done.

Our other entrants were: Dark Apostle Thirst, Octavulg, Thor Lokiago, elohimalpha, Chapter Master Ignis Domus, Tybalt Russ, Black Cohort, Ace Debonair, and Mordray.

Actually, I owe a huge apology to Mordray. He submitted a name and I didn't include it in the poll. So I'm going to work it into the Chapter later (which doesn't make up for the gaffe, I know). Also, I'm going to submit myself to the pain glove as penance. Man, I hate when I screw up.

All of the members that submitted names are entitled to display the "Participant" banner (assuming they don't rate a "Contributor" banner already):

Well, my submission of "Obsidian Swords" was more to do with the homeworld than the colours or badge. And the fact it sounds cool.

I had a few plans for the post-astartes-homeworld section so the name would have made sense, you see. :)

 

I also liked Obsidian Hunters, and Skull Lords.

Anyone else have any hidden reasons for the names they suggested?

Hurray Obisidian Hunters was selected. :rolleyes: Now there was one other name that I really did like as well, the Skull Lords certainly suited the chapter's symbol and gives a feeling of brutal and merciless purpose, pretty much a Space Marine's demeanour in combat. But it did also seem a little repelling as when I thoguht of the name again, all I could picture in my head was a Khornate warband so that's why I didn't vote for it.

 

Now BT don't worry about making me an even more special banner, I think the effort you'll spend on that should be spent in enduring the pain glove or making something special for Mordray. :P

Hunters simply because it was different, I don't see a lot of 'Hunters' chapters, especially not recently. Only one springs to mind actually, and that's the Hounds of the Hunt.

 

Obsidian Swords was good too, as was Skull Lords but the latter sounded too chaos-ey for my tastes.

 

I wish I had one of those spangly banners. They're all fancy and stuff. I just keep missing the boat unfortunately. Ah well, such is life. At least I get to comment on other people's hard work, in true Liber tradition. :rolleyes:

I went with the Celestial Champions purely out of respect to the Celestial Lions chapter. They tried to be good guys and the inquisition damned them for it, and you just dont see too many "good guy" chapters that actually care about the human race. I mean sure, there's the Ultramarines and the Salamanders, but even the Ultramarines aren't all that willing to sacrifice tactical superiority to save citizens of the Imperium. I also just liked the name.

 

Second vote (having actually looked at the heraldry and whatnot) has to go to the Skull Lords. It just works better than any of the other submissions as far as actually being related to the marines' look, though you could argue the half obsidian color scheme.

Well, first I suggested Sun Lords. I thought a sun-based symbol would look really cool against the green armor.

 

Then I remembered that the Chapter symbol had already been selected.

 

So I thought of Obsidian Lords, but I didn't entirely like the sound and I suspected someone else would already have done it.

 

So I started throwing adjectives at nouns, and eventually got Skull Lords (gosh, I wonder where I got the idea for 'Skull' from? :)).

I came up with Cryptic Lords,much the way Octavulg did just started throwing words together. Skull Lords was on my list but I thought it sounded like a chaos name. Now that I look back on it the name Cryptic Lords brings to mind, with the chapter colors, a Dark Angels successor chapter.
