Canis Majoris
does anyone use the wolfguard unit + character in a dedicated land raider?? I was thinking either 7 terms tuned for CC with Logan in a crusader. or 10 wg ( with arjac rockfist ) tuned for CC with ragnar in a redeemer. Just wondering how you guys deploy a raider if you ever use them ;) also can you deploy a squad in a LR if its a heavy support choice at the start of the game? or do i have to embark the troops in turn 1? I kinda like the idea of 4 land raiders laden with troops. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215034-wgtransport/ Share on other sites
nurglez
you can start deployed in a heavy support landraider, but if its one that is bought as a dedicated transport, then only that unit can start the game in it. If you are coming on as reserves, then I dont think you could have a squad embarked in a heavy support landraider either. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215034-wgtransport/#findComment-2561359 Share on other sites
Sven Dragonfire
In larger point games I use a dedicated landraider for wolfguard in PA led by Ragnar, deployed on the board at the start of the game, - Charge forward, deploy , and charge into CC. Ragnar gives the unit furious charge and d3 attacks on the charge. Can be devastating. Last game I played couple of days ago, the chaos player charged all his army towards me in tight formation but didnt get into cc, I got the charge and Ragnars howl gave two other units of Grey hunters Furious charge aswell. Worked a treat. Doesnt always pan out that well though. And you have to remember you are looking at a unit around the 750pt mark,(once you start tooling up your wolf guard) - all your eggs in one basket can spring to mind. But it can be fun, and thats why I do it. Plus to see Ragnar emerge from the transport and charge with I6 S6 +d3 attacks on the charge and all with a power weapon. Your opponents face is a picture. He can be an animal. I usually put my terminators in a drop pod, as they cant deepstrike normally, and I can ensure they land in the first turn. Works for me. I avoid reserves as I never have much luck with the rolls and I find I dont get value for points by the time they get on the board. At my gaming club we have allways allowed troops to start the game in heavy choice landraiders, dont think there is anything that says you cant, just dedicated transports can only be deployed or held in reserve with their respective troops unit in it. If you bought a landraider as a heavy choice it is fine to put a unit and an independent character in it and keep it in reserve and roll for it as one, though according to the rule book you must specify this to an opponent (page 94) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215034-wgtransport/#findComment-2561718 Share on other sites
Hazelnut
Does this apply to a drop pod bought as a WG dedicated transport as well? (sorry - I'm a rules ignoramus) So you can drop it empty or with the WG in, but not with a different pack of GH's? Is it usual to be able to have different list configurations then in tournaments - to handle different threats and strategies? Same basic army, just different transport assignments etc?
