Blood Guard Vs Ultramarines

It was a 1v1 1000 point a person battle, Blood Guard versus the Ultramarine 4th company.

It was a bit of a mix match up at the beginning of the battle, from what was visible at the beginning of the battle, it was a pair of Rhino's, a Razorback, Vindicator and a Land Raider Redeemer versus a solitary Dreadnought.

Despite setting up last, the Ultramarines stole the initiative, despite moving closer, and sending the Rhino's and Razorback behind the Cathedral, the only shooting was a miss with the vindicator, and the Land Raider's Multimelta failing to penetrate.

Help for the outnumbered Dreadnought comes down from the strike cruisers above, with some Death Company and a Chaplain pouring out, hoping to melt the Vindicator from behind...yet being unable to hit at such short range. [To then be destroyed in the following turn of shooting, with the vindicator and Redeemer combining to kill the Death Company, but thankfully the Chaplain survived to fight (Sensibly!) another day]

More support comes in for the Blood Guard, a Drop pod, an 8 man tactical squad, a Brother Corbulo counts as get out and shoot upon the rhino, with it being unable to fire:

With the Assault Marines + Captain coming down as well as the second drop pod, all the Blood Guard were finally on the table - with help from Brother Corbulo's abilities - after the loss of his squad the Chaplain had sensibly decided to move away from the Vindicator to try and join the Tactical marines - and unfortunately the Land Raider had decided not to chase the Dreadnought around the Cathedral and away from the Blood Guard

Having nearly returned to its starting point, the occupants of the Land Raider left, to face the Tactical Marines, and then charge them in close combat:

Death was all around, a lot of Blood Guard fell to the Ultramarines, but they had struck back and took out some of the Ultramarines themselves:

During the combat between the Ultramarine Command Squad and the Blood Guard Tactical squad and my Brother Corbulo counts as, the Chaplain gets involved having lost the Death company, and close combat continues

The Captain and his assault squad ran headlong towards the Razorback, the Sergeant and he both placing meltabombs on the tank, and destroyed it outright, burning all but one of the occupants inside in the firestorm.

With the remenants of his squad laying on the floor dead, the Captain charged towards the nearest combat squad, hacking them limb from limb with his power sword.

Victory for the Chaplain, Corbulo and the Sargeant...

...Would be short lived...Being the only Blood Guard Marine left on the battlefield, the Captain was angry and headed towards the biggest target around him, the Ultramarine Redeemer.

Some might say fool-hardedly. But who of us truely think when all their friends have been destroyed around them?

Needless to say, heavily wounded and outnumbered and surrounded, the mighty Captain fell...all the Ultramarines had moved away in case the vindicator gunner missed - tho possibly unfortunately the Captains demise was swift and the shell hit head on.

In the end it turned out to be that there were 3 Combat Tactical squads - one for the Rhino's and one for the Razorback, a fully kitted out Command Squad in the Land Raider Redeemer and a Vindicator against a Dreadnought, 2 Drop Pods, 5 man Death Company with a Chaplain, an 8 man Tactical with a counts as Brother Corbulo, and a 5 man Assault Squad and Captain.

I dont know, you two naughty boys are always bickering. Looked like an interesting game ,great pics, though looks like the blood guard were pretty spread out, nothing like concentrating your fire ha ha ha. You certainly looked outnumbered and out gunned - are those Blood Angels that expensive? What happened to the captains assault squad? cant work it out, call me Mr thicky head, but one minute they are assaulting the Razorback the next hes on his lonesome?? i'll have to check scotts blog to see his side of the battle, if he's posted it . You still up for the 24th Mr Irabrai. I reckon you could have done more damage had u been using paintballs. lol Thanks for the graet report though buddy. Most enjoyable.

Lets see, 145 for the Dread, 45 + 65 for the drop pods, 160 for captain, 110 for assault squad (were taken out by massed ranks of Ultramarine fire - obviously missed that. 105 for Corbulo, 115 for Death co, 115 for Chaplain, 138 for the Tactical squad. Hell yeah, i'm up for the 24th - it is a wednesday after all. I've realised I wont be able to make the tournament unfortunately, gonna be working the friday night and working the saturday...doubt i'll even be ok to attend one battle let alone a whole day. :P

Yeah, the army was pretty spread out. I was hoping that Scott would follow my Dreadnought with his Land Raider, hoping that the Chaplains Infernus pistol took out the vindicator and then i'd have be pretty happy. Wouldnt have been spread around quite so much if it wasnt for the assault squad/captain scattering quite as far as they did.

Drop Pods are not the best idea when deploying DC, they are a fragile unit against AP 1/2/3 units... Try using a Rhino next time!

Rather than getting Corbs, ehy don't you go with a regular S.P. with some special weapons, like Infernus Pistol or Power Weapon?

Just wanted to try something a little bit different thats all. I tend to use a rhino more often than not - I wasnt expecting my enemy to have quite what he had so. I also dont tend to run a Sanguinary Priest at all, unless hes part of an Honour guard - i needed to use up the points and thought why not? The single re-roll he has helped in getting the Captain + assault squad down, and then he held his own against the Ultramarine command squad - the Initiative 5 really helps as did his strength 5 weapon.
