DapperDave
Thinking of using a CC oriented wolfguard squad with a smattering of SCCWs and was considering throwing a stormshield in there. Do you guys think it it would be better to toss it on the power fist guy going at I:1, or throw it on someone without a SCCW so that when I do fail that 3++ I don't also loose the power fist? Yes, because not only You loose the fist, but also potential attacks at initiative 1, whcih in most cases are still yet to come, when You are making those saves with SS. Normal guy If you take an attack before I1 and lose the SS roll you just lost SS and a PF before it did any damage Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215197-pa-wolfguard-and-stormshield-placement/#findComment-2563770 Share on other sites
Stormshrug
I'm fairly certain that he meant "put it on the guy with a normal CCW" so that if you do fail the save, you don't lose the fist, which probably hasn't hit yet, since it's I1. Also: I concur with this wargear placement strategy. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. -Stormshrug Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215197-pa-wolfguard-and-stormshield-placement/#findComment-2563771 Share on other sites

Gerwulf
I have a question that somewhat fits the topic... I'm planning to get a squad of 9 PA wolf guard to accompany Ragnar from time to time either in a Drop Pod, a Rhino or a Land Raider. (He sometimes rides with GH or TDA WG, but I have some leftover bits and I want to get some PA wolfguard in addition to the 8 PF and combi weapon ones i have). I was thinking of leaving most of them naked, with maybe 2 to 3 special weapons (power fist, wolf claw and power weapon). I'm tempted to use 2 with PF and combi weapon, one or two with frost blade and 2 with wolf claw, some with plasma pistols, just to keep them individual which would suite the fluff. But that would get expensive fast and is most likely overkill. Anyway, I'm not sure if it is worth to put a storm shield or two in that unit. for the price of the storm shield i get 1 1/2 WG or GH. What do you think? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215197-pa-wolfguard-and-stormshield-placement/#findComment-2564435 Share on other sites
DapperDave
Gerwulf, this is actually very close to what I'm thinking (Ragnar will also be accompanying these wolf guard) and I'm actually wondering if 1 storm shield at 30 pts will really make that much of a difference. I was also thinking of switching the power fist for a frost blade... he'd be S6 on the charge, so still wounding most things on a 2, but would get an extra attack, and would hit at I5. WG Vrox
Anyway, I'm not sure if it is worth to put a storm shield or two in that unit. for the price of the storm shield i get 1 1/2 WG or GH. What do you think? I would keep them cheap and effective as possible. The SS is so expensive for a 1 wound 3+ model. I suggest you stick to your plan of 2-4 Combi-Melta, couple of Wolf Claws and couple Power Fists. Something like this. CM/PF CM/TH Combi-Flamer/WC Combi-Flamer/WC BP/CW BP/CW BP/CW BP/CW BP/CW But, if you stilll have some extra bits for a 10th WG, sure why not put a SS/TH on one so you have the option of play-testing. I would be tempted to run 8 WG in the unit, a cheap Wolf Priest and to put the last 2 WG in TDA with CML and run them in two small foot sloggin GH packs of 5.
