Painting the FW heresy era marines

I've got a few sets of the Forge World early pattern armour marines to be built into my Space Wolves army. It's not a full on heresy era army but I suppose a 35k era army as I'm painting them in the darker pure grey finish rather than baby blue and I have a mix of armour from MKII - Wolf Guard and Long Fangs, to a full mix in my Grey Hunters of Mk IV, V, VI and up.

So I'm looking for some guidance on painting the Mk V pattern in particular as in what colour should the rivets be? I've seen some mention of painting the rivets gold but am not sure on this - would it be normal to have the rivets the same colour as the armour? Also what do you do about company/chapter markings when the shoulder pad has rivets would you use the armour base colour - grey in my case or the the company markings colour - black in my case as the base colour? Any artwork online showing the older style of armour?

If your going Space Wolf it's pretty easy, just go for a more barbaric look. The Wolves where more feral under Russ, it took 10 thousand years for them to look almost Astartes like they d in the 41st millenium.

Wolves didn't go for the gilded look like the Emp's kiddies or Ultramarines so I'd stick to grey rivets. The detailing should be most likely focused on trophies and such.

The Wolves never organised as Chapters exactly, it's suggested that each Great Company ma of been chapter sized but operate the same way. So decide on your Wolf Lord's symbol and use it on the un-riveted shoulder pad. Pack markings that would normaly go on the right shoulder can be displayed on the leg perhaps?

Personally I like gold studs, they make a nice contrast to the grey without actually being overly blingey:

Not to mention theres something of an old-skool thing about them, gold is the metallic of yellow which used to be the Wolves secondary colour.

Can I ask where you found that drawing? I've never seen it before!

To the OP, my advice would be try a test mini using both methods! I'm sure either scheme could work, but in the absence of an established method try both and see which one looks the best! :)
