wolf363839
Fought two battles against the DE last weekend. They're a tough nut to crack, and have very few weaknesses. Both battles ended in draws...barely on my part. DE strengths are their massive amount of dark lance and poison firepower combined with their speed and 5+ invul saves. Most of their strengths are based on their vehicles. The dark lances make mech army lists more risky, but mech still provides the protection you need due to their anti-infantry firepower. They are mounted on raider chassis which basically means they move 12" and fire everything. Other toys include 5+ invul saves and reducing the range of enemy fire by 6". The Venom is a great vehicle that packs a ton of anti-infantry firepower. It is their version of a razorback (transport 5). Most of the DE weapons are poisoned so even TWC aren't safe. Incubi are still nasty in CC because of their power weapons, and the Archon is a beast until you take out its 2+ invul save (love Living Lightning!) but in general SW have little trouble killing evil space elves with the sharp end of a blade. Be wary of fielding Long Fangs (I didn't run any and usually don't because they don't fit with my style of play) because of the long range poisoned shots. Mobile, long ranged, armored firepower is the way to go. I don't run Dreads either, but they would seem to do quite well. Their achillies heel seems to be kill points. The armies I fought each had a wopping 19 KPs each. He almost wiped me out, but because he has so many fragile units that I was able to force a draw. (Might have won too if not for some utterly horrific dice all game long) Hope this helps. Happy hunting. MaveriK
how large of a game did you play? was you opponent a seasoned veteran? what did you have in your army list? who got first turn? if wolves went first, would it had mattered or made a difference? did you go to him, or let his forces come to you? wolf363839
Space Wolves: Thunderwolf Lord with all the toys 2 x TWC with 2 SS's and TH Rune Priest + WG + GHs in Rhino Arjac + 10 GHs in Redeemer WG + GHs in Rhino WG + GHs in Razorback with TwinL Las Vindicator Dark Eldar: Archon + Incubi in Raider 2 x Warriors in Raider 2 x Wytches in Raider 2 x Warriors in Venoms 3 x Ravagers w/ dark lances 3 Reavers My opponent was my brother who is a seasoned DE veteran and has fought my Wolves many times. My list has not changed in the last half dozen or so battles I've fought, so he is very familiar with me. I did get the first turn in the objective based battle, but I only managed to kill one Raider in the first turn due to short range shooting of most of my army. In the second game, it was DoW and I went second, so he got lots of shooting on his turn 2.
