[Update/Changes] Raven Guard 7th Company now Crimson Fists

Hey All

Just thought I would post some pics of my first ever serious attempt and modelling Space Marines (instead of just putting them together) and my first crack at using Green Stuff.

I am making an army based on the Raven Guard's 7th Company and their background is in Covert Recon and Raiding. I envisage them as a hard hitting 'Commando' type force that deploys rapidly, inflicting disproportionate damage for the amount of soldiers they have, before withdrawing in the confusion of the aftermath.

I have plans to model some scouts in 'civilian' clothing / heavy camouflage, to represent their Scout forces inserting covertly into the target area months in advance to prepare for the assault. Once the area is thoroughly scoped out, the Tactical Strike force (being the heavy hitting Marines) execute the mission.

Anyway, here is my progress thus far . As I said, it is my first real attempt at modelling and using Green-stuff. Constructive feedback would be very much appreciated. Thanks all!

Thanks all for the kind responses!

So I started working on a colour scheme today (using a test model). This is what I am aiming for - The purple shoulder trim is to designate the 7th Company (I tried to minimize the markings because they are a Covert Ops unit).

I am skeptical about the yellow eyes, any thoughts?

To give them more a covert feel go for a light grey on chest eagle and chapter markings to tone down the brightness of the white. For the eyes a red, green or even the purple may be better since the yellow stands out alot like you said.

Green stuff looks great so far. Keep up the good work.

hail fellow Battle-Brother, the benificient light of the Emperor shines upon this foruitous meeting. well firstly nice to see you on the forums, i havent been here in ages but im back now, like Daft Punk, stronger, harder, faster. ~smiles~ but anyway back on topic, your SOG troops mirror my own. they were as i envisaged mine but i lack your GS-Fu. so i made mine according to my skill set. where you have done things like LBE and lots of pouches, mine lacked that level of realism. your models really pop and you basically revealed the MO of my DA SOG. you revealed ultra hush eyes only DA mission guidlines, man your guys are good ~grins~ anyways i will be looking at your work again cause its just too awesome to only read it once. all i can say is aces man! keep up the fantastic work and i cannot wait to see more of your ideas.

sheer genius!

I too vote for the yellow eyes as red ones might make them look a little more like ravenwing. Either way, it will be a treat to see these guys painted!

Hey man, you've got a really cool concept here, and they'll look really nice once they're done, I'll also chuck in a vote for the yellow eyes. One thing to look out for is the positioning of some of the pouches, and in particular, the powerpack mounted knife, they look like they may interfere with arms/shoulder pads once you try to finish assembling them.

Cheers, keep 'em coming,

Jono

Thanks for the responses guys!

I have to admit, I changed ideas for the paint scheme. I saw some beautifully painted Crimson Fists armies on here and wished the same for mine - although I lack the painting skill.

So now they are an Orc Hunter Task Force - essentially the idea is they are broken into 'Combat Teams' with mobility from Rhinos and veterans mixed in with new marines (after their near destruction). I have painted the majority of the detail on the models from the photos above and just need to add more detail / do touch up work and paint / flock the bases (thinking of doing a muddy theme with Autumn fall leaves). Oh, and I apologize for the poor quality photos - my camera is an outdoor beast, it won't break but does not take the best quality shots.

anyhow, this is how they turned out. Let me know what you think! I was planning on keeping a 'blog' on the site of my progress - thoughts?
