FAQ 1.1 of the BRB:

If only some of the models in a unit have the Stealth

special rule, does the whole unit benefit from the +1 cover

save? (p76)

A: Yes. In effect the ones with the Stealth special rule

ensure their colleagues also find good places to hide.

Am I wrong or Saga of Hunter can be used to give stealth to any infantry unit in the codex? It should if "one" counts as "some", which I think it does, and it makes sense from the description. A Battle leader with saga of the Hunter would help his comrades find the best hiding spots, wouldn't he?

it seems like it would work, however, I cannot see that many good uses for it as only Wolf Priests and Battle leaders can take this saga. The ideal would be to have this with your long fangs so they get a 3+ cover save. The question is would a 3+ cover save be worth 80 points.
Wait...

Thunder Wolf with stealth could be the next big thing? Good luck shooting at me in cover, I have 2+ saves on my pack. Hehehe

How do you plan on getting 2+ cover saves? I can see 3+...

BTW: Not possible anyways, Saga of the Hunter specifies Infantry only

some   /sʌm; unstressed səm/ Show Spelled

–adjective

1. being an undetermined or unspecified one: Some person may object.

2. (used with plural nouns) certain: Some days I stay home.

3. of a certain unspecified number, amount, degree, etc.: to some extent.

Definition #1-3 are could be singular.

This has implications for footslogging lists. Think about giving a screening unit stealth with a wolf priest, then covering it with stormcaller. You could walk a large unit of blood claws or fenrisian wolves in front of the rest of your army, while giving them a 4+ cover save in open terrain.

A wolf priest with saga of the hunter could have other uses as well. Later in the game, you could join it to an objective-holder unit and go to ground in cover, giving you a 2+ cover save and fearlessness. This unit would be very difficult to kill or shift with shooting and could counter attack if charged. You could use a wolf guard battle leader for this as well if you didn't need to be fearless (units that have gone to ground can't fall back anyway).

Of course, stealth would be very helpful to wolf scouts as well, allowing them to overcome the weakness of their less impressive armor saves.

The more I think about this rule the more I really like it. Adarul (my wolf guard battle leader with saga of the hunter) just got a lot more useful, and I can't wait to try putting him in wolf scout and grey hunter packs using this new rule.

Of course, other armies will be able to make use of this as well. Camo cloaks are indeed an option for lord commissars, meaning that infantry blobs with 2+ cover saves will not only be possible, they will also be able to act normally during their turns due to the "Get Back in the Fight!" order available to company commanders (including Straken). I don't personally run infantry blobs with my IG because I don't play them competitively, but unless I'm missing something, those who do will certainly be looking to make use of this fact. Fortunately, we have the versatility to be able to charge in if the enemy uses this tactic, but I feel bad for pure shooting armies that will have to fight the new and improved IG blobs.

That's nothing... Think Commissars with Camo cloaks in IG blob units.

You gotta love how little they think these things out.

It doesnt work.

Stealth is one of those things that doesnt transfer over with an IC- specifically. Its only if its actually a member model of the unit, not an attached IC that this will work.

Examples- Telion.

I don't doubt your knowledge, but for my information, what page is that on? Thanks a lot for any help.

And this means if an IC(without stealth) joins a squad with stealth, he doesn't get it also right?

Is Telion the only example of a unit benefiting from this FAQ revision then?

I keep re-reading this Grey Mage, and I'm just not getting that from the quote above. Just so I'm clear, can you tell me what over rides what I'm reading above?

++edit++ Oops I see above you have come to the ugly realization of this asinine ruling. :D

Page 74, left hand column, paragraph 3.

*Blinks* wich of course, proves me wrong. There is no asterisk... wich I could have sworn was there.

In wich case, it does work. Hot damn.

Didn't brother Grey Mage adress this issue above with this?Just trying to clear it up.

Probly, with most groups rules- but traditionally a FAQ on one thing doesnt always affect other things, even if we might think so- but it cant hurt to talk it over with your buddies.

Just remember, some rules say 'units' and other rules say 'models'. So theres no way an IC could give them FNP, because that rule is by model- stealth says 'unit'.

And I was looking for ways to make my slogging list more survivable, apparently this is the way!

Large pack of Blood Claws with Wolf Priest with Hunter, Rune Priest with Stormcaller nearby or in same unit and we be rolling.

Though it breaks the oath...which makes me a sad Wolf, and stealthy Scouts is fitting, if they can still make use of Behind Enemy Lines...

Saga of the hunter still screw up ouer scouts super stealths though.

However, could we take it on a lord with a jump pack and have the sky claws get +1 in cover? I really do not want to "break the oath" and not start the game with him in resreve. But does drop pods count?

No, no and no

WL can't take Saga of the Hunter

Saga of hunter for WP and WGBL can't be taken if you have a JP

To the best of my knowledge a JP can't be used with a DP (just like they are not permitted in rhinos etc)

If you look upon p. 48 in the BRB (I only have the small one that comes with AOBR box) under the ICs Joining and Leaving Units, it states under special rules:

"Unless otherwise specified in the rule itself, the unit's special rules are not conferred upon the character, and the character's special rules are not conferred upon the unit."

Now the question is, does the FAQ errata this?
