Good evening all, long time no see.

I have been busy with college lately and have struggled to find time for my minis, until now!

Behold!....

He's my own chapter....although I have no idea of what to name it :) .

I'm hoping to get some bits and start another little project, this one I'm determined to finish!

Anyway it's only a quick post, C & C would be helpful as usual

Thanks,

Daniel

I really like your Marine.

Its very understated because of the black and grey colour scheme, but if you give it a good look you can really see the talent that was put into it.

I just wish mine looked as good. Keep up the good work.

Sigh....work like this just makes me want to "touch up" my Templars with battle damage. It looks too awesome not to :P .

The deep gray is a nice touch, I don't imagine it'd work nearly as well without the battle damage to highlight the difference in shade from the black on the rest of the model.

Thank you very much, and I think it would be worth it if you add damage to you Templars :tu: it's always a good thing to do!

Almost finished my squads Rhino...

wow, very nice work! How did you do the weathering on the black armor?

Just a simple drybrush of Chainmail (A VERY dry brush) all over the tank, then painted on scratches and chips with Mithril silver. The mud and dust was just a drybrush of Bestial Brown follwed bye a lighter drybrush of 1:1 Bestial Brown and Bleached Bone :), nice and easy.

Finished the actual Rhino, just need to do the driver and storm bolter, but I've just finished the Heavy Bolter Marine.

A lot of times, black armies seem lazy or unfinished - kind of just... black, you know?

Yours, though... each and every model just oozes dedication and hard work. A person can really tell a lot of thought and care was shown to each of your Astartes. (Or you are smart and technically inclined enough to make them look amazing with minimal effort. I cannot tell.)

I'll echo the sentiments of one of the boys who replied before me - your use of gray really helps the battle damage pop, and honestly, these guys look just wonderful. I'm super loving it.

Especially the heavy bolter marine.

What a bad mo-fo he looks to be. How did you do the detailing on his face? (Faces are not my strong point.)

Thank you very much Lemainus :) . I agree about other black armies, they just look too dull for me, but I have seen a few great ones, and with black I think it's all about the detailing.

The only reason why I chose this scheme was because the colours I used are the same as my BFG Imperial Ships. I thought it would look good on marines and it seems it's worked :)

The HB marines face was just painted with different mixtures of Bleached Bone and Bestial Brown, more Bleached Bone for the highlights etc.

Very cool stuff, very well painted. I'm curious to see what's gonna happen with the diorama, is it just gonna be like a squad by itself or is there gonna be some action-y shnazz going on?

To be honest I'm not sure at the moment, I was just playing about, I think it may end up just showing the squad but I'm open to suggestions :)

Seeeeeee? :)

Besides this, the models are great, the basing is nice, and the rhino has been painted well. Is there a name for these guys??

Do you have any ideas regarding fluff? (who is their primarch, are they codex, do they have a particular tactic or whatever? might help you come up with a name..)

:D

Nope I'm afraid not :D , my only idea was that they preferred to get in close to the enemy, but not into close combat with melee weapons, more like get in close and pick them all off with quick yet well timed and placed Bolter fire. That's how I tried to model them anyway.

When I first saw them I assumed the image on their pads was a sort of Roman or doric column , which made me think the chapter could be named along the lines of Pillars of [insert name of founder/homeworld/sub-sector]. (The trick is finding a noun which makes the whole name 'roll off the tongue.)

I realise now it's actually a bolter shell, but the suggestion still stands - it implies a belief in their role as supporters of the Imperium, an integral part of it's structure. They're both arrogant and humble at the same time: they dutifully serve, but in a capacity and with a (percieved) centrality/importance that seems at odds when comparing the size of the Imperium with the size of any one chapter.

It is indeed a bolter shell, I didn't want to do anything too fancy and thought it looked quite cool. That is a very in depth analysis I must say! I do like the idea of the Pillars of..., I'll try and come up with a founder or homeworld soon. Thank you for the ideas
