Wanted to say thanks for the PM Tutorial, Cosmic.

I couldn't find the reply button so i thought this'd be the next best place to say it... Haha.

As for the new models, the Dread looks great and so does the Apothecary, his pose does look a little odd to me though.

Haha that's fair enough .

His pose looks ok in reality, so it might be the photos. I just wanted him crouched as if he was about to tend to a fallen marine.

Good evening once again ^_^

College has bogged me down lately so I haven't really expanded on the Marines....BUT.....

I have been busy today making this little bit of scenery...the good ol' tin can silo.

Nothing too fancy, I was bored whilst researching and wanted something to do that didn't require a lot of tools or paint brushes (I've left EVERYTHING on my college desk)

Just some cereal box card, a soup can, some pin-heads and 2 straws.

Simple, yet fairly effective.

I have one more marine almost painted some when I get time I'll finish him up and you'll see him soon.

C&C is appreciated

Daniel

I just wanted to comment on something that I didn't really notice anyone else mentioning, so maybe it's just a matter of my personal taste. Your scheme is predominantly black, but you did a good job in choosing gold accents and red to help offset some of the inevitable blandness that comes with mostly black armies. My concern however comes to your choice of markings, ie. chapter badges and the like. Now this could be the camera misrepresenting, and it might not be as bad in real life, but I remember when I first looked over your pictures I didn't even realize they had any chapter markings or anything. One of the most distinctive things I remember was being terribly disappointed with your sergeant's banner because I thought it only had a squad number on it. Of course now after looking through your pictures more closely I realized you did in fact have more decoration, but I never even realized you had a chapter badge until I inspected all your pictures again.

My point is that the black markings on a charcoal (or slate or something fairly dark) grey background are very easily lost, there's not a ton of contrast there to catch the eye. My gut instinct says you should go white, or if you don't want to vary your palette too much, at least red. Like I said, it might be much better outside of photos, but that's just my first impression from looking. I'd personally fiddle with other colors, see if something other than black works for you, but it's of course your vision in the end. And that's seriously the only thing I found distracting, these are lovely, lovely models and I only pray that my own will be half as good and have half as much character as you've put in yours. I definitely look forward to seeing more of your work here, definitely inspiring! :D

Hi Nephilim,

Thank you for taking the time to write such an elaborate reply :) I'm glad someones mentioned it actually.

Recently I too have become annoyed by the markings to be honest. It was just something simple I could do to keep the painting flow going (I get bored very easily). I didn't choose white because I thought it would be too distracting, but I may do a tester and see. The good news is that the sergeants banner has recently been changed :). Like I said, I tend to get bored easily when painting squads, so I was just doing simple stuff to churn them out. I'll do a couple of testers with the changed scheme and see which I prefer.

I'll try and get some pictures uploaded soon so keep an eye out.

Thanks you for the kind words and the help,

Daniel

Time for some more double posting! But hey ho...

Just a quick update with the new and improved Sergeant...

As you can see I've completely re-painted the Banner, what do you think?

I've also given him a helmet stripe.

Thanks to Nephilim's suggestion, I have also started changing the shoulder pad markings to white, and they do look a lot better, so more updates tomorrow hopefully.

C&C appreciated as always,

Daniel
