Jorre
Hi guys. I have not posted much of my WIP latley but I've been doing a heap of work and will update my WIP thread as soon as I can motivate myself to take and upload all the photos. For now though I need your advise for the Chaplin I am working on. I am not the best at kit bashing and I'm sub par with green stuff but I am really happy with how this model is turning out so I need to choose the perfect skull helm for him. Any advise you can give me or pictures/info on where to get really sweet skull helms would be much appreciated. I was considering buying a pack of Khorne beserkers and trimming the helms down, the extra bits would probably come in handy at some time maybe for my future death company. I thought I would ask here first in case anyone had a better idea. The photo was only taken with a phone so hopefully theres enough detail for you to get the idea Also do you think he would look better with a winged jump pack or with a death company jump pack. Comments and critasism welcome! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215398-the-perfect-chaplain-helmet/ Share on other sites
Chaplain Gunzhard
I've always liked the CSM heads for chaplains. I've seen them used a lot. Check out this photo from GW... imo the best would be the first one on the top row, and the second one on the bottom row with the horns sliced/filed off. http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Custom...ain_873x627.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215398-the-perfect-chaplain-helmet/#findComment-2566478 Share on other sites

Comments and critasism welcome! Holy balls that is awesome! Where did you get that headpiece for his Crozius? I am honestly a fan of the entire range of Death Company bitz, so I would probably use that, but as of late I picked up a set of winged 'packs from a friend who wasn't going to use them, and made my JP Honor guard have wings. They look, in short, glorious. It is really an aesthetics thing and mostly up to you. If he was going to be a center piece for your army, I would give him wings, but if he's going to be just-another-chaplain I wouldn't make him particularly fancy. EDIT: Derp, didnt see the question at the bottom. Jorre
Chaplain Gunzhard You are right there are several useful looking heads in that squad. I had not actually considered normal CSM. Some of those legs would probably go alright with the tactical squad I am building for a bit of variation also SeraphimDeSanguinius Its just made from spare bits I had lying around. The skulls are cut down from the antenna of a attack bike and the wings are from the dark angel kit. The shaft is just a junky 2nd edition power axe cut up Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215398-the-perfect-chaplain-helmet/#findComment-2566490 Share on other sites
Nuntius
I used the "extra" head from the WFB champion of Khorne metal model. You know the guy with the axe and shield. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...dId=prod1590016 This guy. (sorry for the linky. I have no picture account to post pictures myself.) just file the khorne emblem off the forehead. Red Fury
I always thought that one of the EC heads would look good for a Chaplain, like the one on the top left here: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Custom...ain_873x627.jpg -EDIT- Here, even better: http://cgi.ebay.com/40K-Chaos-Space-Marine...97#ht_615wt_905 for the JP, the DC kit has the only real options other than plain or metal (VV and Dante). There is a JP with skull emblems on the top (from the dc kit) that would look good. The bottom right pack: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Custom...ue2_873x627.jpg -EDIT- Another link: http://cgi.ebay.com/40K-Blood-Angels-Death...ad#ht_507wt_905 you can find them cheaper than this, and at this price I would just buy a DC box anyway. Zeller
I just made a chaos dark apostle a week ago so I had to make my own helmet. I took the chaos space marine helmet that is rounded with studs and no horns and removed the face and kept the tubing around the face. I then took a skull from WHFB and cut the back end off and trimmed it here and there so it would fit into the gap in the CSM helmet. Just needs some sanding and greenstuffing. No idea on the backpack, sorry. Why not use a standard one and replace the balls with skulls? Or use the LoTD sergeant? http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/3906/p1160456.th.jpg http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/5770/p1160455.th.jpg http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/6474/p1160454.th.jpg http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/9996/p1160453.th.jpg http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/6945/p1160452.th.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215398-the-perfect-chaplain-helmet/#findComment-2566598 Share on other sites
Erasmus of Baal
I've been looking high and low for non-SW PA thunderhammers. I've now found them. To be honest, I was more excited about those than the Chaplain helmets. I love Thunder Hammers. :D More on-topic, I just remembered suggestions in the past of using a Sanguinary Guard Death Mask (possibly with the halo removed) or one of the helmets from the Khorne Berserkers with its tall whetever-those-things-are removed. They are called bunny ears, and to this day I wonder why Khorne insists on putting them on his servants. Maybe he saw that scene with the rabbit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail and though all rabbits were like that. Or maybe the Blood God has a rather lame sense of humor? Jorre
Wow Really impressed with that head midnight, I think I will try something similar! depending on how my green stuff efforts go! Midnightmare
Now, now Angelus no need to be like that!! :( Cheers, I need a new body for him now my RAS Sgt has stolen his armour. He'll be my jump chappie (eventually) :) Jorre, my green stuff skills are very basic at best (blood drops, gap filling and the occasional haircut lol) so you should have no problems with that as long as you have a good sculpting tool :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215398-the-perfect-chaplain-helmet/#findComment-2569840 Share on other sites
Brother Nathan
heres a few of mine using regular chaos helms http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s317/generalhazard_album/models/P4130535.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s317/generalhazard_album/models/chap.jpg yeah i need some newer pics... As far as jump packs go id say the new death co ones. after that a regular one with jingly stuff added, or dantes, sanguard/astro/sanguinator, vanguard. but as your plastic and i presume looking to stay plastic probably go death co ones! ron
If you've got a little bit of patence and can do some basic greenstuff work, there is this option: Chaplain helmet I've included the step by step on my blog. http://lh4.ggpht.com/_-HZLorI1B0w/TLsy0cdXZ1I/AAAAAAAAMKg/Tbo6RChAhiw/s400/Dark%20Angels%20Chaplain%20codex%20conversion.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215398-the-perfect-chaplain-helmet/#findComment-2570096 Share on other sites
DrummingBerserker21
Ron, thats an amazing chaplain, fabulous work! I've already looked at your tutorial (again, nice job!) and assume the robes are from the Dark Angel sets, but where did you get that backpack? Seva
Check out Baal Dropout's chaplain. It's pretty sic. If I had the link I'd post it, but off hand I don't so sorry. You can also make a pretty good skull helmet from greenstuff and a standard marine helmet if you do some chopping. I tried my hand at a truescale Lemartes and used that technique to average results! I'll post some pics when I get home tonight if you are interested. Anyhow it's good to be back on the board. Been painting a bunch lately so pics will be coming soon. Good luck with your chaplain head search! Obey the Emperor. Its really good seeing a step by step with green stuff makes it much easier to see how it is actually used the before and after shots are particularly helpfull! And Welcome back to the boards Seva! I was worried you had disapeared! Some of your work is up there with the best I've seen on these boards, cant wait to see your work with all the new Blood angel bits! RebG
I spent a long time pondering this exact question (the helmet part at least)! It's worth pointing out couple of options; the Chaplain head bit from Chapterhouse Studios or the Skull Tribe Master of the Rites Set from Maxmini (good for the shoulder pads and 'Crozius'). I wasn't quite happy with either though so I found Ron's tutorial on FTW (the one he posted above) and went for it. Here's what came out of the other end: (I'm hoping that worked, I've nevr posted a picture here before!? Learning curves huh?) It's not quite as tidy as it's inspiration but I'm happy with it for a first attempt, I just need to get it more square next time. Thanks to Ron for posting it (and for everything else on FTW as well!). EDIT: That picture's very small. Can anyone tell me how to make it bigger/able to be clicked on and enlarged? If not and anyone actually wants a look it's the only picture in my gallery so feel free. Such a noob...
