New Space Wolf looking for Advice

Well after collecting and playing black templars for a few years, I decided to try out the Space Wolves for the first time since I really like there fluff and think they have some awesome units. So without further ado, I bought the codex and some SW box sets as well as rhinos, and as of right now I currently have:

* Ulric the Slayer

* GH Squad #1:

-w/ (1x) Wolf Claw, Bolter, (2x) meltaguns, (7x) Bolters, Rhino w/dozer blades

* GH Squad #2:

-w/ (1x) Wolf Claw, Bolter, (2x) meltaguns, (7x) Bolters, Rhino w/dozer blades

* (5x) Long Fangs:

-w/Sergent w/Bolter, (4x) Missile Launchers, Razorback w/Twin-Linked Assault Cannon

As of right now, I think this is a fairly decent list, and I plan on adding 2x GH squads with the similar load-out, another Long Fang Squad (same as above), and from there maybe add some Wolf Guard and maybe a Land Raider Redeemer. does anyone have any advice on how to run a mechanized SW list and just looking for some feedback on what I can add to make a competitive 2000 point list.

I'm afraid you can't give Grey Hunters wolf claws, so those guys may have to become your wolfguard? You could use them as 'counts as power weapons' I suppose, which would be a pretty close fit. Other than that, this seems like a fairly solid start. The combo of AC razorback and ML Long Fangs might be worth considering... If you are intending to run them together this leaves a gap of 24" between the relative range of the different weapons... Consider this carefully as you might find the AC is underused for its 35 points.

Looking forward, a further pack of GH or two would be solid choices, yes. You could then go for some more specialist hitting power and, again, as you've suggested yourself, a redeemer with an assault pack inside would work well - one of the extra GH packs with a wolfguard and/or character would fit the bill as assault troops if you like, though I stongly suggest adding a wolf standard as it really does make the difference at that key moment. Of course, you could go for more specialist cargo, like terminators or blood claws, but the Grey Hunters usually outperform even their specialist rivals anyway in my experience.

I would also suggest some more extreme mobility in a mech force - land speeders or bikes, or even a thunderlord, would give you that extra burst of speed when needed. For example, a land speeder typhoon (ML/HB) would give you some real speed and handy firepower at reltively cheap points cost. Another option would be to put one of the Grey Hunter packs in a drop pod, giving them the ability to claim an area early in the game and provide a firebase for your force to advance under/towards. Choices choices!

In looking to build a mech list towards 2k I would add one further piece of advice - give the enemy another hard target to aim at other than a single redeemer or you will lose it early nearly everytime. Particularly with the influx of space elf dark lances on the horizon (or closer), alternative AV12+ targets in addition to a land raider will force opponents to make a choice or split their fire, both of which are a good thing. A predator, vindicator or a second raider are the sort of thing I mean... Alternatively, leave the raider out and go 'light mech', giving your opponent too many choices and not enough time!

Best of luck with the list.

Ah thanks for letting m know about how GH cant get wolf Claws, so I will probably just replace it with a PW and I after talking to another guy who played space wolves, he recommended the Wolf Standard as well so Ill definetly consider it. I have thought about using Land Speeders but wasnt to sure about them and I will most likely switch out the Assault Cannons for either Las/Plas for my 2x Razorbacks. So is there anyone who runs a mechanized Space Wolf list who can give me some advice, because to be honest I could really use some.
