LardO'Blood
How do you think this model is? I know I need to thin my paints a bit and the pictures aren't the best. I was quite pleased with how the armor turned out, it looks a bunch nicer in person I think. The eyes still need some work I know. I think I did a pretty nice job on the freehand DW symbol, it being my first time. This was the armor recipe: White base coat Brown poster paint :D Beige color http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/7823/dwfront.jpg http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/8611/dwback.jpg http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/7347/dwleft.jpg http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/6775/dwright.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215465-dw-painting-test/ Share on other sites
littlbitz
The paint does look a bit thick. The freehand isn't bad at all in my opinion. I think a coat of Delvan Mud over the whole model, and then a highlight of your base coat again would do this model wonders. Oh, and drill out those barrels! Arvendragon
Overall, I'd say pretty good, just a few little touchups and a bit of shading left to do. Gillyfish
From what I can tell, he looks good. A little thinning of the paint would probably help get a smooth finish and will also blend the highlights a little more. Drilling out the barrels will indeed help as littlbitz said. I would also suggest that you use some black wash on the metallic surfaces, to give them some depth and on the chest eagle for the same reason. For a first attempt the Deathwing logo is excellent. It can take some time to get used to painting it - it's not the easiest of shapes and the wings are hard to get equal. Practice will really help with that. Poster paint is probably not the best thing to use as it can often get grains of paint in it and is prone to turn runny again when other paint is applied. If money isn't a concern, I would definitely recommend getting some more GW paints. I've recently been experimenting with Dheneb stone as a basecoat followed by some brown washes for depth and then highlighting with successive coats of bleached bone and skull white. It seems to work! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215465-dw-painting-test/#findComment-2568755 Share on other sites
HsojVvad
I was going to say, you have the same problem as me, paint to thick as you said, but, I like it, because if you look at the shoulder pads, it has a weathered look to it. I like it. The only critisism I can ofer is on the back side, left leg, where the knee joint is, you a splash of white there. Maybe cover it up with black or what ever you are using for the joints. I use black because it reminds me of Star Wars Stormtroopers :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215465-dw-painting-test/#findComment-2569618 Share on other sites
