Zeller
This is not a list advice thread. This thread is to focus soley on the priest and his viability at the 500 point level in a non-mechanized army list. Frame of reference: --- Captain: JP, PW (with RAS) RAS (5): PF (objective denial/capturing) Scouts (5): 4 SR, ML, CC (objective sitting) SP: JP (with RAS) MMAB --- =Sanguinary Priest= Pros: *Increase durability of fragile RAS and Captain *Increase offensive power of RAS and Captain Cons: *15% of total list points *Single model with 1 wound* --- Is a SP necessary in a 500 point non-mechanized list? If so, why? If not, why not? Thankyou.
shatter
FC increases MEQ vs MEQ killiness by more than 15% (assuming charge o' course). FnP increases survivability by more than 15% Plus you get an extra body with those perks. Plus an extra IC can help mitigate losses by one's usage of them in CC placement. Compared to say, another 5 man scout squad? You may end up killing more with these scouts than the priest himself but it might cost you your HQ & RAS in some match-ups or mean they could only kill 1 unit and fail on a second. Grey Mage
Well, lets look at it this way- is it a 2 troops 1 HQ 500pts list? And is it meq or Jumping? Because if its jumping, its worth it. The increase in survivability alone is awesome- 4 FNP saves a game means he pays for himself in living marines. Rhino mounted forces might not get as much use out of it, but jump packers will every time. Also, In small point games many places only require 1 troop- such as the ol combat patrol rules. In combat patrol a Priest is nigh-godly due to the more limited unit selections, and pushes things over the top.
Hellios
Also, In small point games many places only require 1 troop- such as the ol combat patrol rules. In combat patrol a Priest is nigh-godly due to the more limited unit selections, and pushes things over the top. He isn't bad but I would say godly is over the top... I don't know about your area but where I played those limitations made the game nastier as you know what people will bring so you can focus on killing it... My DE list which I made based on the stereotype of Dark Angels loving plasma (even though I have very little plasma in my 1,500pt list for my DAs) has 5 plasma cannons, 1 plasma gun and a plasma pistol... WHERE IS YOUR FNP NOW! and that isn't the meanest list in town by any means... Anyway the FNP from the priest is worth it unless you expect to come up against a boat load of FNP negating weapons... I would say go for it...
Zeller
In my mech lists I don't take priests. Since this is such a small points value and running 2 full tactical squads in rhinos will leave me with an HQ that's jumping, I opted for an assault squad. Primary opponents at the moment are SW (grey hunter/long fangs) and wych cult DE in raiders. We use the standard FOC so 2 troops. At the moment the points for the priest could either keep the priest or buy more assault marines. Give up attacks but gain stronger faster attacks and FNP or have more bodies. Well, hopefully having the higher I on the marines will mean something.
Dingareth
And is it meq or Jumping? Question. HOw do you have 13,000 posts and not know the difference between MEQ and Mech? Seeing as the thread is about jumpers, I gotta say go for it. The Furious Charge alone is worth it, add in the Feel No Pain, and it's almost a no-brianer. Although, I'd switch out the Captain for a Librarian. Unleash Rage and a Priest makes for a nasty combo. It also saves some points, as would dropping the Fist down to a Power Weapon. Picking up a special weapon for the Assault Squad would help alot- you're still likely to run into the odd Razorback or Chimera, even at 500 points. aeren
switch out the Captain for a Librarian This, first of all, because he's dirt cheap for his abilities at that points level...jp with smite and sanguine sword is my personal favorite. You can either run with the fnp assault squad until you need to break off and kill the odd dread/razorback/chimera some people like to put in at these levels to be tricksy, or stay with them, hitting whatever you are charging with a three shot, lower strength plasma pistol. Too, they are handy for negating rune priests, the other cheap and killy hq often seen at that points level. As for the priest, even though he costs 1/10th of the list running bare bones, or more when you give him a jp and power weapon (which I personally do at that level), the bonuses he gives to even a five man squad make him entirely worth it. Going first against pretty much anything and at strength 5 means you aren't going to leave much left to hit you back.
Dingareth
At 500 points, Dear the Darkness could be fun- effectively erasing half your opponent's army in one turn is always nice.
SamaNagol
At 500pts, a Librarian with fear of Darkness and Shield, along with a Sanguinary Priest would be godlike
