Blindhamster
I've noticed that a fair few pictures of Sanguinius depict him with a pelt that appears to come from some kind of large feline, These same pelts can be seen on a few of the pictures of marines in the Current codex... Question is, do we have any lore concerning these beasts? The pelts are on a similar scale to wolf pelts which implies a rather huge cat to say the least. I ask because if I have good reason I will likely add a few customised pelts to the odd marine in my army. Thanks in advance Blindhamster Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215478-spotted-cat-pelt-seen-in-many-ba-picks/ Share on other sites
Whitefireinferno
I dunno the full Story I just assume that they are one of the random huge angry Beasts from Baal and well Giant Scorpions do not make cool pelts... So glad we did not get any BloodLeapod bloodCav of the bloodycatbloodblood... shatter
If one expands upon the classical -> renaissance latin fluff aesthetic, a leopard cloak (or pinnacle Baal predator (not the tank!)) isn't out of the question... Oh wait, maybe the Baal predator tank is actually a fair basis to hang the whole argument on. I've a backpack banner made from (greenstuff) leather. While not a cloak, it is of the same idea. I stick it on mephiston as it has wings painted on it's two 'sails' separated by the pole which gives my imagination a tickle when he gets Wings of Sanguinius to go off. Blindhamster
there are three or four pics including them in the Current BA codex, as well as every recent pick of sanguinius. Shame there doesn't seem to be any actual fluff regarding them, but I'll probably make use of them anyways. Thanks guys Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215478-spotted-cat-pelt-seen-in-many-ba-picks/#findComment-2569894 Share on other sites
ancient god
I've never seen any mention of them except from the pictures. But you don't really need fluff to support them I guess. :) They look cool and have clearly been part of the BA style for many years. Dammit, now I'm tempted to do a Marine with a pelt myself. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215478-spotted-cat-pelt-seen-in-many-ba-picks/#findComment-2570194 Share on other sites

Inquisitor_Lensoven
honestly in the new 'dex i've only found 2 pics that had pelts in them that weren't of sanguinius, and one of them is an old ass pic too, so i'd say it's not a big thing, so come up with whatever fluff you'd like for it. paulson games
The leopard pelts were a symbol of the roman legions, their standard bearers and commanders wore them. The Astartes are modelled on the roman military and that's likely the source for the art choice.
