Octavulg
Well, what should they be called? Let's throw some ideas out, and see what sticks. For those unaware of what they look like, there's a decent example here. Basically there's a big bar with the chapter symbol, name, founding, chapter world, fortress monastery, gene-seed and predecessor, and known descendants. There are three big sections: one untitled one which is a general overview of the Chapter's history and some of its character, Organisation, which is basically a mix of Combat Doctrine, Organisation and a bit of appropriate history, and Selected Battle Honors, which is a few short blurbs on notable battles in the Chapter's history. Total length is about 2000-3000 words, tops. A few obvious things: Their acronym should not be IA or LA. That would get confusing. It would be nice if it were cool and latiny, but that's me. <_< The first person to suggest IA-lite is getting kicked. I mean it. Octavulg
My own ideas: Minimex Astartes (or Traitoris, as appropriate) Deniquex Astartes Volumex Astartes Other (better) ideas are welcome. :cuss Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215530-those-ia-equivalent-things-in-imperial-armor/#findComment-2568256 Share on other sites
Octavulg
Shinzaren IA-mini? Or Mini-IA? Ick. I was hoping for something that didn't inherently imply one was a knockoff of the other, personally. :cuss * * * Ferrus Manus IA Lite? IA Liter? GhostLegion
I keep thinking of those blurbs as Appendix Astartes... Have to say though, I like Thrawn's idea of Compendium Astartes.. Brother Tyler
Honorum Astartes. Those "articles" provide a baseline of information and are enhanced by the selected battle honors, with the selected battle honors being the element that is part of this article but not part of an Index Astartes article (with the IA having information that this type of article does not have). Members might substitute the "Badab War Disposition" (which likely won't be in any articles that are produced for DIYs) with something else such as a description of the army list they plan on using, an army that took part in some campaign, etc. Another idea would be Apocrypha Astartes (drawing upon the Apocrypha of Skaros and the Apocrypha of Davio). Aqui
How about Parvulus or Parvus Index Astartes (Where Parvulus and Parvus mean "small" )? NightrawenII
Compendium Astartes +1. Nice and fitting. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215530-those-ia-equivalent-things-in-imperial-armor/#findComment-2568303 Share on other sites
Octavulg
The problem with Compendium is that it sounds bigger than an Index Astartes, at least to me. Brother Tyler
The problem with Compendium is that it sounds bigger than an Index Astartes, at least to me. My gut instinct is to agree with you, but I just checked out dictionary.com and found the definition: a brief treatment or account of a subject, esp. an extensive subject; concise treatise: a compendium of medicine. a summary, epitome, or abridgment. a full list or inventory: a compendium of their complaints. So now I guess I disagree with you (and myself :) ). You learn something new every day. Still, it's not my favorite idea, but it wouldn't stick in my craw if that's the way it goes. Aqui
Another suggestion: Index Brevis or "brief Index" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215530-those-ia-equivalent-things-in-imperial-armor/#findComment-2568328 Share on other sites

Our instincts are incomplete, but not incorrect. Me, I think the fact that it can mean big and complete is enough to be confusing. Aurelius Rex
Liber Quintessence? :) Edit: Quintessence can mean Extract - chemistry the purest extract or essence of a substance, containing the substance's properties in their most concentrated form or Embodiment - the purest or most perfect example of something. Sounds appropriate for a distilled, boiled down version of an IA which presents the embodiment of the chapter's character. Octavulg
I like it, but it doesn't roll off the tongue. It's a bit too long. Liber Quintessent? Liber Quintessex? Liber Quintus? There's also Libellus, which means "little book". Apparently. EDIT: Recordatio Astartes is another possibility. Bava
I quite like Aquilanus´ Index Brevis. Or Curriculum Armorum/Curriculum Astartes? Edit: Typo.
