Salamander Rhino

I'm slowly building my Salamander Army, I now have a completed squad, dreadnought, and librarian and this is my first shot at a vehicle. I'm pretty happy with how it's turning out so far but I've still got plenty more detail work to do but I think I'm getting better with each model I do. I know they're not "display" quality but I think they should look nice on the table. Comments are welcome, I'm trying to get better so any tips are always helpful!

Thanks!! I'm pretty happy with it so far so that's a good sign!

Great work on the freehand and the weathering is also well done. Mind sharing how?

The only crit i have is that the turret/hatches aren't put on but that may be personal preference.

Well done anyway.

I don't have the hatches on yet because I haven't decided which route I'm going to go. I'm thinking I'll have the drivers one closed and the other open with a marine manning the gun, but I still haven't decided.

I haven't done much weathering on the sides or back yet, but the muddy appearance was done with a drybrush just stabbing at the tank repeatedly with a good amount of graveyard earth, followed by a lighter amount of beastial brown and finally a very light amount of bleached bone.

Hinges on the dorsal hatches? What an awesome idea; I think I might try it. Is there any advice you might give for that, any pitfalls you'd point out to avoid?

I actually found a tutorial for this @ dakkadakka that was laid out quite nicely. The trickiest part for me was drilling out the hinges. I went a little off center on one, and it ended up slowly tearing open when I bent the pinning wire. Both doors still open and close nicely and it really isn't noticeable...except I know its there so it irks me! You can see the pin hinges after it's done so that might turn some people away, but the gold matched my gold trim so it worked out nicely. The other complaint is that the hatches will be ever so slightly raised up when you're done so they won't lie flush with the roof. I sort of like the look though, makes the doors look a little heavier.

Well after a little delay here's the finished version if anyone was curious

I'm pretty happy with it, hopefully I'll actually play soon!
