g-unit
Having just got the first Forge World order to wolf up some of my stuff I was wondering is this right? The FW website shows all clean parts & I've read that most FW stuff requires some work but are these right in that I need to cut out each piece??? Hope a fellow wolf could let me know if this is how these parts arrive... Wolf Guard Nostromo
Yep, standard practice there... They can take time to prepare but are totally worth it. Marshal Wilhelm
Remember to wash them in soapy water [which is what I do to all my minis pre-spray can, anyway] as they have a mould release dust on them, which can stuff up your paint :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215637-forge-world-bits-are-these-right/#findComment-2569863 Share on other sites
Rider-75
yup. unfortunately some resin bits come out the moulds better than other, but nothing a bit of sanding and filing won't sort. wash them in luke-warm soapy water (too hot and you may soften and warp the resin - though this is good if your parts are slightly off, letting you reshape them) to remove the release agent. make sure you wear a mask when dealing with the sanding. inhaled resin dust is very very fine and gets very deep into the lungs.... Stryke
Not wanting to sidetrack the topic, but while we're on the topic, does anyone know if its alright to sand FW resin parts in doors? (eg. in my room). I'm a bit paranoid that the resin particles will still remain in the air and might effect other family members. Thanks in advance. g-unit
Thanks for those replies, looks like it's time to break out the clippers/knife/ sandpaper combo and by the south of it the respirator as well! Was thinking of treating myself to an LR Achilles for Xmas but if this is the work for a couple of symbols how much extra work is there in a full model  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215637-forge-world-bits-are-these-right/#findComment-2569912 Share on other sites
Bulweih
Hail brothers, when sanding resin indoors, you have to keep the resin parts wet at all times, this way the particles don't go airborne. I've always done it this way so it doesn't effect my kid and wife. For now I have a room to do it in and close the door, but I still open the windows afterwards for a good twenty minutes just to be safe. For the icons of the OP, try cutting very careful around each piece and when removed from the sprue sand down on the back, if you are good with a knife, sanding is not really needed mind. Hope this helps. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215637-forge-world-bits-are-these-right/#findComment-2569916 Share on other sites

Was thinking of treating myself to an LR Achilles for Xmas but if this is the work for a couple of symbols how much extra work is there in a full model :P The models dont have that kind of flash, its just the size of these and the transport would be hell if they didnt do it like this. THe FW models dont fit all to well though, I have FW rino doors, and as such have 2 extra portals to shoot trough :D, nah it isnt that bad but they dont fit nice. But dreads and such shouldnt be a problem. Boomsly
dont use the clippers on resin as it can shatter it very easily, use a very fine saw blade and sandpaper and keep the resin wet when sanding as said before Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215637-forge-world-bits-are-these-right/#findComment-2569956 Share on other sites
Hfran Morkai
Here's an article of mine for working with resin: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...warticle=808%22 If you're going to use a respirator get a decent one with changeable cartridges as opposed to the simple face masks... Reminds me I need to add some pictures to my article when I next buy some lovely resin. Olgerth Istaarn
Blah!! What's this? Send this crap back. Are you seriously supposed to carve these pieces out of a sheet of resin? Now I know I'm a FW cynic, but this is out of bounds. You paid extra money for these icons. You deserve a product that doesn't require creative carving... After seeing these I doubt I'll ever order anything from FW. I would feel extremely ripped off if I had received them in this condition. Stryke
That's how I received mine, but do note that the resin sheet on the back of the icons is extremely thin and been resin, is very easy to cut. So with a hobby knife, it shouldn't be hard to cut those icons out (and they look great to boot!). Do it in the garage [if it is just a car place and not someone's room] with a/the doors open. You don't have to get a gas-mask style respirator. There filters can be as poor as the disposable ones if you buy them el cheapo. There are all different qualities of disposable masks. You can get ones that are rubbish and you can get ones that are top end. Link: dust masks For my apprenticeship we built cherry-pickers that were insulated with fibre-glass. I have also worked at a place that makes fibre-glass insulation, performing maintenance. Both places used the P3 class of dust-mask. Don't get the one with the 'breathing flap' ~ it lets rubbish in! Get the one without the flap, just pure mask. P3 filters 99.95% of air-born particles. That's how I received mine, but do note that the resin sheet on the back of the icons is extremely thin and been resin, is very easy to cut. So with a hobby knife, it shouldn't be hard to cut those icons out (and they look great to boot!). I agree.
