Wysten
At the moment, I am at the crossroads that is Christmas, I have a choice really. I can either ask: A Land Speeder or 2. I've always been fond of the idea of them. A pair would come to about £35/6, which is reasonable. Either way, dispite not having the rest of my army built up, I would be proud of these, whether I decided to stay in 40K or not. This seems to be my favourate right now, dispite the fact I would not be able to use them for a while yet. Space Wolf Termie army, would probably need customisation afterwards, dropping Njal, but costs £100. Problem is, termies are not that great, just it would be a entire army and it would be awesome to behold with long fang shooting. Then theres about £180 for 3 grey hunters packs, 1 termie, Logien, 3 Rhinos, a landraider crusiader and A Pred. This would be more useful as I would all the bodies I could ever need, but Rhino packs are subpar compared to Razorbacks and it's a lot to ask. Problem is I am having problems inspiring my close friends since most are hanging back or drifted to Fantecy, and frankly I find it hard entering new social circles, evident by my current lack of activity. I so want to play the game, but it seems to be taking so long to do so. Plus the lack of melta/flamer makes me extremely annoyed and is kind of hindering me, as I feel I have to get a lot of stuff just to have something amusing. Throughts? Gerwulf
I would advise against buying terminators at this stage. They are awesome miniatures, they can be a force to be reckoned with (if used right), but they are not really easy to use. Rhinos subpar to razorbacks? I don't think so. I strongly believe that a full GH squad in a rhino (with or without an attached WG) is vastly superior to razorbacks squads. I use long fangs (with a razorback) as my fire support. Well, that's my personal opinion anyway. But still, since rhinos and razorbacks are the same price to buy, always buy razorbacks for the additional bits. Anyway... I think the best method ever to start a Space Wolves army is to combine a Space Marine Battle Force with a Space Wolves Battleforce which will cost you £82. Maybe add in a Devastator Squad, a few more razorbacks (used as Rhinos), a wolf priest and a rune priest and you have a sizeable force. The Space Wolves Battleforce has more than enough bits to wolf up the standard marines. If I counted correctly this would give you: 1 Drop pod 1 Rhino 10 Scouts 6 Longfangs (2x ML, 2x PC, 1x LC is the optimal loadout with the weapons you have, I prefer 5x ML though, or 3x ML and 2xPC) 34 other power armoured bodies that can become grey hunters, blood claws, wolf guard or even a wolf guard battle leader or wolf lord 5 Sky claws and maybe 2 additional rhinos for your GH I would say this is a solid start. The tactical squad from the SM battleforce should give you a missile launcher (used for the LF), a flamer and a melta (and a plasma gun that you wont need). If you buy an additional tactical squad you get 10 more bodies and an additional flamer and melta that you could use for your squads. I currently have (just grey hunters, not counting all the other squads) 3 GH squads with 2x meltas (with wolf standard and power weapon and one squad with the option for either a power fist or power weapon) 2 GH squads with 2x plamaguns (with wolf standard and power weapon and one squad with the option for either a power fist or power weapon) 1 GH squad with 1x flamer (with wolf standard and with the option for either a power fist or power weapon) and they all have their uses and usually perform really well. I have 7 Rhino chassis to be either used as 3x razorbacks, 1 predator, 1 whirlwind and optional rhinos if not used for the other functions. sometimes I add a Wolf guard with combi weapon and PF to the squads. sometimes i run them without one. If I add one, I usually add one to the melta squads, since they seem to face close combat more often and I really like to have 4 plasma shots per round over several turns in my plasma squads, which are usually more used for ranged support. but it usually all depends on what i feel like playing and how many points I have left. Wysten
I meant, that the Razor back sets were supperiour to simply Rhinos, because a Razorback can be a Rhino or a Razorback, a Rhino would require more stuff buying to make it a razorback. Both have their roles. Interesting suggestion to buy both battle forces, never really throught of that, though I have already got one space wolves battle force, and if I am taking part in a contest I have to buy another. Gerwulf
Yeah, but since they cost exactly the same (for whatever reason), I didn't see why you would put Rhinos on your wishlist. Is it a special deal? The thing is, the Space Marines Battle Force is the best valued battle force. I like having different levels of wolfiness. Blood Claws have the least wolf bits, GH in the middle and lonfangs and wolf guard the most. Therefore, buying the SM BF, which is a great deal, and combining it with a SW BF gives a great result. What kind of contest is this? Can you buy the SM BF instead of the SW one and still enter the contest? wolfpack
without getting into it....I would have to agree with Gerwulf...having one of each battleforce gives you a great base for a 1500 point army...which is more than enough to get started playing...from there you can build your force as you wish...and keep an eye on ebay and bartertown (and other trade forums) as you can pick up additional units fairly cheap...from there it's all about what you wanna do with your force...
