War Bear as a Thunderwolf mount

Seeing as there are currently no offical Thunderwolf Cavalry models could I get away with the War Bear from scibor miniatures as a friends offering me one at a virtually give away price?

The model itself is a huge lump of resin taller than a terminator marine. Certainly gives the impression of T5 and being able to land rending hits, maybe not to fast looking, more slow & purposeful! All the Celtic plates and runes certainly give it a SW feel.

I don't see why not! If you are buying it a good price then go ahead, it is a great model even if you don't use it with the SW army. Just keep in mind that you might have problems on the competition scene (definitely with GW organized ones).
I think it would look awesome and fit in well - as to competitive purposes, base size has been the issue in my experience...

Common sense suggest 60mm base, because the only Thunderwolf available is using one of those. And Bloodcrushers which is the unit fits almost the same description uses one.

Why would there be any problems with tournaments? GW or not...

There are no TWM models from GW or FW so players have no choice but to make something up...

Wow they are cool. I must get some myself...

I would love it if an opponent used one...

I would put it on 60mm base and use it. It truly is a great looking model. When I saw them on CMON, I wondered how they looked next to a Space Wolf.

If the scale fits, the model certainly does!!

I am officially using this idea, as it seems to me to be too good to pass up!! Thanks g-unit!!

Some GW Tournaments opperate on a percentage principle for scratch minis; if it isn't something like 55% or more GW parts then it is disqualified, so it could be a problem.

Anyone else think it looks alot like one of the bears from Golden Compass?

There are in fact a GW Thunderwolf aka Fangir. I dont think that GW will release anything else, not when other ppl have already made such great minis that are for sale all over the world, for cheap.

True, but that's not just any TW, that's a special named one...

Personally I'd quite like to take the Mythicast ones to a GW event and see what they say...

Or even better, Thunder Bears :)

If You can get it cheap - take it, because they are GOD DAMN EXPENSIVE on their site!!! You can buy a small starter army for their official price....

The only issue AFAIK is the size - the standard PA marine conversion might look small on this. The "official" rider - Celtic Warrior is actually bigger than a terminator, so try to make some size comparisons first if You can look and touch the model.

There are three unique Warbears and they are all gorgeous, like the Golden Compass ones [good call Captain Juan Juarez]

But they cost $AU30 a pop. I'm not sure what the postage is....

Maybe Santa thinks I've been a good lad?

Hmm, I have a problem with that, how is the 55% defined exactly? Volume, weight, number of individual parts? I've been assuming that a non-GW resin Thunderwolf with a GW plastic torso on top would be just fine, and a pure non-GW resin Fen wolf would also be fine - even for Tournaments. Especially since there are no GW models, but even if there were - since there was a period of time when there wasn't any there should be some leeway surely?

You can also add the GW plastic 60mm base - probably the textured one from the dreadnought and some squished CSM bits on it :) Should work fine.

Played with mine at Warhammer work every week for the last 6 months including in tournaments and never had a mention bar asking where I got them from.

They really don't care that much when there isnt much alternative as long as you use GW parts where possible for the rest of the model (eg the rider + weaponry)

that is just.... I now really want to do an Iron priest on one of those now.Has anyone else thought, as a parody to model the Thunderwolves as giant Guinea pigs? :) the fact the model would almost be the same size as some of the smaller real ones would just add to the hilarity of . that bear model issomuchnicer then canis, plus not quite as silly as giant wolves.
