Sevrin Loth

First impressions now, pics later.

Perhaps Forgeworld is afraid to piss me off further than they already have, for the fear that I will utterly lose my marbles, reach through the phone and strangle someone; or perhaps their technology did improve a bit since I last bought from them. Either way, Sevrin Loth and Da Scorpion Boyz were a pleasant surprise to me; no excessive carving needed, no ruined surfaces or obnoxious gates, and - BONUS! a full command squad sprue, including an apothecary.

Sevrin looks excellent; I've long wanted a non-metal librarian, and while I would've preferred plastic, resin does just fine. Since I don't do anything sensibly, I decided to go and potentially ruin my first resin mini in ages: namely, I decided to give ol' Loth a jump pack option along with his gorgeous Librarian Pack. Magnets to the fore! Oddly enough, I managed to put everything together quite nicely using a Dremel-like powertool, and the only mishap was ruining the small skull at the bottom of Loth's backpack. I covered it with a handy piece of bling. I also hate his default "woodcutting axe of power", so I stole a power sword form the command sprue and supplied that instead.

"And therein lies the problem".

Compared to plastic pieces, Loth is downright delicate. Plastic arms are noticeably thicker than his stock arms, and the regular, one-handed powersword looks like a proper two-hander when wielded by Sevrin. Which I don't necessarily mind - I like two-handers - but it's something to be aware of.

Thankfully, the only scorpion on his armor is located on the shoulder pad, it is quite small and faint, and easily scraped off. In its place, I attached a small Crux Terminatus.

All in all, an excellent mini and makes for a wonderful "Librarian in Artificer Armor", chapter-neutral piece, as long as the smaller size doesn't bother you much.

EDIT: Took some pictures. You'll notice that the "contact surfaces" of both backpacks look rather "orky" and rough... none of it is actually visible when the pack is attached. I used a magnet in the center and two pins, one through the peg on the torso back and one through a hole I drilled in the collar area; this way the pack sits quite snugly and doesn't wobble left and right.

And here's Sevrin with the nude Hoplite girl Artemis from the Hasslefree Minis range. She is taller, but clearly impressed with the size of his sword...

Everyone knows that the marine with the biggest sword gets all the ladies, that's why Gabriel Seth is such a pimp when not tearing people/vehicles/things limb-from-limb. :)
