Soren
I am putting together a few Blood Angels' tanks and I like how some people paint the rivets black. I know that a thick wash will pool around the rivet, but I think that the ones I like are actually painted. How do you paint the rivets? UltraRich
I normally paint them boltgun metal then give them a dab of badab black wash to add a shadow around it and then based on the light source touch the top of them with mythral silver. I find this looks good but they can look "new" if they are in a weathered area Id prbably not put mythral on them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/215954-painting-rivets/#findComment-2574112 Share on other sites
Obliterator
I usually just paint the same shading as the rest of the model around the rivets (so for example for my Salamanders, the shading of the green armour plating). Sometimes that's Badab Black, Devlan Mud or whatever color seems to do the trick :) . After that, I use a detail brush and paint the rivets in Chainmail. I usually don't bother with shading or highlighting them as they're too small to notice anyway, and the metal paint does take care of some degree of natural highlighting for me.
