Because of the relative remoteness of Celador the Knights Aquila are often expected to fight unaided by the Imperia Guard in the vast stellar expanse. It is because of this that the chapter is organized slightly differently to a pure codex adherent. Aside from the 1st and 10th, every company is a battle company. It is expected that a captain be able to perform any mission granted to him by the grand master therefore each company is totally self sufficient in terms of equipment and vehicles. The forge also maintains a number of rare vehicle variants and non-standard equipment, which may be requested on a mission-to-mission basis.

The following is not the Chapter’s current standing, rather it is the ideal that Asob Andruil is aiming for. Of particular note is the number of dreadnoughts, which due to the very young age of the Chapter are well below the amount dictated by Andruil with no Company having a full complement.

The Knights Aquila are strongly influenced by their ultimate ancestors; the ultramarines in that they are not simply xenophobic zealots wishing to kill in the Emperor’s name. Rather they see themselves as but one of the tools the Emperor uses to better mankind.

The Knights Aquila are not unusual in that they do not worship the Emperor as a god. They view the Emperor as a symbol of what humanity could, should and one day will become. It is this symbolism that led Cursor to choose the name ‘Knights Aquila’ for the Aquila is the symbol the loyalists adopted during the Horus Heresy. Their belief is that it is the job of all marines to play their part id delivering the Emperor’s ambition.

The Knights Aquila view any oppression of humanity as being against the Emperor’s wishes for mankind. They view the ultimate mission of the Adpetus Astartes as being to free humanity from tyranny and ignorance; to finish the Great Crusade, which they regard as unfinished. They emphatically disavow the idea that the Imperium’s dire state of affairs warrants the cruelty imposed by the Ecclesiarchy in particular and the Adeptus Terra in general.

Such views are dangerous and not spoken of. Indeed most of the Imperium is unaware of the Knights Aquila’s views or beliefs.

Relationship with the Inquisition

Whilst not unusual in not observing the Imperial Creed, the Knights Aquila are more opposed to the power structures of the Imperium than most chapters. Whereas venerable Chapters, such as the much vaunted Space Wolves, are too famous and well connected to be targets of the Inquisition the Knights Aquila have no such protection.

The fact that they were founded at the request of the Adeptus Mechanicus was enough to worry some puritanical Inquisitors. The Ordo Hereticus is still annoyed that the fledging chapter’s resources weren’t put to use defending beleaguered Shrine Worlds. That they have strayed even slightly from the Codex Astartes is more ammunition for those with axes to grind. Should Inquisitors uncover what the Knights Aquila truly believe then they will surely label the Chapter as heretics and wage holy war.

For their part the Knights Aquila despise the Ecclesiarchy and the Ordo Hereticus. They are viewed as the worst kind of enemy to mankind; the kind the Knights Aquila cannot attack. The Knights Aquila feel more kindly towards the Ordo Xenos and Ordo Malleus viewing their balance of ends and means differently.

bl.php?text=Homeworld&fontsize=25&bg=990000

Celador

The Knights Aquila chose the planet of Celador as their homeworld because of its proximity to the proposed new forgeworld and the Phoenix Nebula. It was a fairly typical agri-world with only modest industry and manufacturing beyond the construction of farm vehicles. Celador’s axial tilt produces a vast equatorial belt of tropical, sub tropical and temperate farm land where most of the planet’s population are to be found. At the poles the tilt causes quite extreme seasonal shifts in climate; oscillating from deep winters to blazing summers.

When the Phoenix Phoenix Nebula’s mineral wealth started being exploited the natural staging post was Celador. The trade through this small world produced a great deal of wealth; the majority of which was used to support the construction of the Unfinished Fortress and the armament of the Knights Aquila. The people of Celador bore little resentment for the siphoning of these resources. There was still enough to improve the lives of most of the planet’s citizenry.

As the Unfinished Fortress neared completion the Governor of Celador was removed from power by Asob Andruil and the world came under the control of the Knights Aquila. The people greeted this news well as since the Knights made Celador their home they had all grown richer and the pirate raids had stopped.

the Unfinished Fortress

Located in a glacial valley in the northern hemisphere of Celador lies the Unfinished Fortress. After the Dark Eldar raid on what was still only a construction site the first chapter master, Cursor, was mortally wounded and interred in a dreadnought sarcophagus. Confused and not at first aware of his corporeal demise the former master continuously referred to the fortress as unfinished, even after Asob Andruil oversaw its completion. The name stuck.

The steep sides and high snow-capped peaks surrounding the valley make it impossible for any armoured foe to attack the fortress, except from the mouth of the valley. And any force that could climb through the mountains would certainly pose no threat to the vast armoured walls of the Monasteries within. In any case there are multiple battalions of the planetary PDF’s best soldiers stationed high throughout the mountains, ably supported and led by Marines at Ordo Teritus.

To protect against aerial or orbital attack the Unfinished Fortress is guarded by 13 colossal planetary defence lasers. Four are located in the Citadel and one each in the Company Monasteries and the Reclusium. There are multiple aerial defence outposts scattered throughout the valley and surrounding mountains consisting of lascannons, hyerios platforms and autocannons. Multiple, overlapping void shields projected from the Company Moasteries cover the whole valley.

About halfway up the valley lies the first Company Monastery, that of the Second Company. Known as the Monastery of Ingress it guards and blocks the only traversable entrance to the valley. A huge 12km wall is draped across the valley and built into the gate is the Monastery itself. Guarded by laser blasters and even two volcano cannons the Monastery of Ingress is a daunting prospect for any attacker. Behind the wall are two battalions of PDF artillery to punish any force besieging the wall.

The headquarters of the Knights Aquila, Celador’s bureaucracy, the Forge, Librarium and Apothecarion are located in the Citadel, an immense structure located at the rear of the valley. Between it and the Monastery of Ingress are 7 Company Monasteries and the Reclusium. They are normally built against the walls of the valley and staggered in position leaving an invader with a difficult position. Do they besiege and attack each Company Monastery in turn, leaving themselves within range of at least one other Monastery’s guns and vulnerable to counter attack? Or do they try and ignore the outlying Monasteries leaving them selves to counter attack and bombardment from all sides. It is not a choice an attacker has yet felt compelled to make.

3rd Company Monastery

The 3rd company’s monastery is a fairly typical example of the monasteries within the unfinished fortress. Located about 5km from the Monastery of Ingress on the eastern side of the valley is a series of artificial, stepped plateaus measuring roughly 3km by 3km at its widest points. The highest plateau is about 100m high.

Atop the highest plateau is the keep. This many towered 100m high structure houses the captain’s offices, two hundred marine sleeping berths, private chapels, briefing rooms, gymnasia, armouries, dining and assembly halls and serf’s quarters. The keep rests on vast mound of solid rock, carved into which are storage rooms for arms, munitions and food. Also located within this structure is a plasma reactor and mighty void field generators.

The courtyard just outside the keep houses the company’s shrine of the ancients. Here is the primary worshipping point for the company. Along the columns of the colonnades are the names of fallen battle brothers and important relics or trophies are displayed here. The company’s dreadnoughts are also housed in the shrine.

Like every monastery there is an extremely powerful orbital defence laser buried deep underground. The walls house a garrison for more than a battalion of the elite PDF tasked with defence of the Unfinished Fortress. Metres of rock, ferrocrete and plasteel guard the garrison though in the event of a siege they would likely sleep to the keep. There are dozens of automated heavy bolters, lascannons and AA hyperios batteries built into walls of the garrison. Periodically there are also gun towers which house long barrelled autocannons for air defence, heavy bolters and laser blasters to deter enemy titans and super heavy vehicles.

The company’s generous supply of tanks and vehicles are stored in the machine halls; the only plateau which is large enough for them to manoeuvre. It is housed in a large and open plateau to allow easy loading and unloading of thunderhawk gunships. This design is quite deliberate; enemies who breach the main gate must snake through ledges and slopes, which force them into bottlenecks. All the while they are covered from multiple vantage points, which they cannot reach. Once they reach the plateau of the machine halls they would be met by the full armoured might of the company. If somehow this line were broken then the attacker would have to abandon their vehicles to continue onto the keep by foot, still having to pass through multiple fields of fire.

bl.php?text=Recruitment&fontsize=25&bg=990000

One of Cursor’s earliest diktats was that recruits should strictly be drawn from volunteers. However the inexperienced Apothecaries of the Chapter oversee a horrific rate of fatal failure when trying to augment the bodies of neophytes. At first this did not deter volunteers; the prospect of becoming a space marine was a great honour and encouraged by most families who were still grateful for all the Knights Aquila had done for them.

Soon memories of life on Celdaor before the Knights Aquila faded and even as the survival rates of the training started to creep upwards the volunteer rate was greatly reduced. Asob Andruil requested that his Apothecaries be sent to the Aurora Chapter for training and help in establishing a better Apothecarion. The measures are starting to reap rewards and it is hoped that soon the augmentation process will be as successful as most other Chapters’.

In the mean time the gene seed of the Knights Aquila is even more precious than of other Chapters, and to that end Apothecaries are more widely used on combat missions to harvest the gene seed of fallen brothers.

Recruits who fail the process but survive are usually inducted into service as officers either in the PDF or Chapter Fleet.

If you want some feedback on the rules, post it in the Homegrown Rules section. Most people here don't care about these things.

The Knights Aquila are a young Chapter, barely 300 years old, founded to protect the mineral wealth of the Phoenix Nebula on the Eastern rim of the galaxy.

~

Plans were drawn up for the founding of a new forgeworld on one of the moons of the gas giant Vesta. This vast mineral bounty was of such importance that Fabricator General petitioned the rest of the High Lords of Terra to sanction a new chapter of space marines to guard this treasure.

- It's very *unusual* to see a Chapter founded outside of Founding. I'm not sure if the need for guards of some mining colony will be enough for creation of Chapter.

- If the Imperium wants something protect, it sends the Imperial Guard. Hundreds of thousands of Guardsmen.

- ForgeWorld has garrison of Skiritarii and Titan Legions.

Origins

The first grand master, and founder, of the Knights Aquila was Lucius Cursor, formerly a captain of the Aurora Chapter. Early in his career, before even becoming a sergeant, Cursor joined a xenos kill team where he met a brother from the Ultramrines, Sergeant Signatus. Cursor was greatly in awe of the stories of Ultramar; it’s beauty, its prosperity, its culture and its peace. Cursor felt that this was the Emperor’s vision for mankind.

When he returned to duty in the aurora chapter, Cursor rose steadily through the ranks becoming a sergeant, company champion and eventually captain. In his many years of service Cursor fought on dozens of worlds and saw countess sights but none compared to Signatus’s description of Ultramar. In his prayers and reflections he started to ask if the Imperium was really what the emperor had wanted.

- How is this relevant to your Chapter? I could understand, if his view somewhat changed the Chapter nature, but he is going to die, before he can make any changes.

After Cursor

There were calls from the Administratum to abandon the Chapter and fold its men and resources into other chapters. Perhaps the Imperium was best placed to defend what resources it has, rather than try in vein to take what others had laid claim to. Were not human worlds daily falling from the Emperor’s rule? The Adeptus Mechanicus however saw it differently. Had not the marines won? Surely with more help they could secure the Phoenix Nebula and reap massive benefits for the Imperium. Luckily the High Lords of Terra agreed with the Adeptus Mechanicus.

- Adepts has no right to tell other Adepta what to do. Each of them answers only to the Emperor and their respectively Head. And Inquisition. :(

- There is no precedent of Chapter re-absorbed into another Chapter.(Tiger Claws doesn't count.)

If one were to make a crude numerical assessment of Asob Andruil’s talents and attributes they would bear a suspicious similarity to most other chapter masters of the space marines. He was, of course, a brave and talented leader. Naturally his skill at arms was such that few enemies could ever be his equal. In battle his enemies are normally surprised to find columns of armour have somehow outflanked them, for Andruil has a strategic mind the equal of any of his peers. Yet his most important talents lay in administration and bureaucracy.

After finishing the construction of their Fortress Monastery Asob Andruil claimed lordship of Celador and helped the planet to flourish.

Yeah, yeah he is awesome.... Now tell us something about your Chapter.

To be honest. This entire section serve as the introduction of two dudes, not introduction of your Chapter.

Appearence and Livery

Largely irrelevant. Make it into sidebar.

Combat Doctrine

Being a descendant of the Aurora Chapter the Knights Aquila have a strong preference for armoured warfare.

//Ok, I do understand, what are you trying to do here. The question is; Why do you differ from the Codex? and more important; Do you know how the codex Chapter works?// -> I leave these question here to show you, why will be better to move the Organisation section.

After reading the half-explanation in the Organisation section, I have to say that this system is too cumbersome and complicated for no reason.

Organisation

Move it before the Combat doctrine, it will explain a lot of things in there.

Because of the relative remoteness of Celador the Knights Aquila are often expected to fight unaided by the Imperia Guard in the vast stellar expanse. It is because of this that the chapter is organized slightly differently to a pure codex adherent.

- This is actually pretty common for SM. They are force of Rapid Response. The only tasks left to Imperial Guard are garrisoning, sieges and mopping up the remnants of the enemy forces.

The rest of the Organisation and the Notable figures are rather pointless, as they are now.

Beliefs

The Knights Aquila are strongly influenced by their ultimate ancestors; the ultramarines in that they are not simply xenophobic zealots wishing to kill in the Emperor’s name. Rather they see themselves as but one of the tools the Emperor uses to better mankind.

- Lol, I think you are rather misguided in your opinions of the Ultramarines and Space Marines in general, but this is for another discussion....

How did they know about Ultramarines?; the training cadre was from the Aurora Chapter, IIRC.

The Knights Aquila are not unusual in that they do not worship the Emperor as a god.

- Cumbersome and pointless.

- Niiice. They loathe everything they fight for. :)

The Ordo Hereticus is still annoyed that the fledging chapter’s resources weren’t put to use defending beleaguered Shrine Worlds.

- Hereticus is ordo of the Inquisition, they have nothing to do with Shrine Worlds.

- Shrine Worlds rally Orders of the Adeptas Sororitas for their defence. The only military force rivalling that of Astartes, in terms of equipment, training and faith.

Homeworld

Why Agri-World? Such type of planet is "unsuitable" for the marine's recruitment.

In any case there are multiple battalions of the planetary PDF’s best soldiers stationed high throughout the mountains, ably supported and led by Marines at Ordo Teritus.

- Ehm... Why is the PDF defending the Chapter Fortress-Monastery?

You know, the Homeworld section is not place for description of buildings.

Recruitment

However the inexperienced Apothecaries of the Chapter have overseen a horrific rate of fatal failure when trying to augment the bodies of neophytes.

- This is so wrong I don't know, where to start... There is no way how could someone lets these guys to do their job. Really, someone screwed up their training or they are all imbeciles.

+++++++

Overall:

The Origins section is one huge miss. It doesn't tell us anything important or interesting, bar the usual Near-Destruction ex Machina... Oh, and the story of two dudes.

Combat Doctrine and Organisation sections are wanting, to say the least.

Homeworld (once again) doesn't tell us anything important or interesting, bar some tiresome and exhausting description of buildings. Maybe some of the more architectural-focused members finds it interesting, I do not.

Belief section is hmmmm.... somewhat set on the head. I don't know how to convey my impressions, to be honest.

Recruitment "Look, our Apothecaries are bunch of morons." section is... well self-explaining. :tu:

++++++

Look, I want help you... shocking I know after such Bitching&Complaining... but lets start with simple task: Describe your Chapter in one sentence.
