Brother-Captain Lucius
Right so my LGS is holding a small Kill-Team tourney/competition next sunday and what i am thinking about bringing along is a Vanguard squad. It goes as follows: Vanguard Sergeant w/ Jump Pack, Claw, SS, Prefered Enemy Vanguard Veteran w/ Jump Pack, Claw, Furius Charge Vanguard Veteran w/ Jump Pack, Feel no Pain Vanguard Veteran w/ Jump Pack Vanguard Veteran w/ Jump Pack What do ye think of this lads? Bradley Powers
The one thing to keep in mind, is that in a standard Kill Team game you can't deep strike. This takes away quite a bit of the awesome from the VV. If you play with a rule allowing DS, then get ready to whoop some a$$! If not, I find that a Furioso Librarian with Wings, Blood Lance, and Infiltrate does quite nicely.
Whitefireinferno
Heh My Fav for Kill Team have been SternGuard Oh blessed ammo types But yeah These could work But you end up paying points for things you will not be able to use in the form of HI However good luck with it. Murcielago
ummmmmmmm...sorry if this is a stupid question, but where are the rules for kill-teams? and how do we play with those rules?
Whitefireinferno
They are in the Battle Missions book It is great fun because it is more like how a Marine Unit would work IMO.
Jorre
I have to agree on the Stern Guard, they are without a doubt one of the most versitile squads you can use in Kill team. Two cheap heavy weapons(I recomend missle and heavy bolter) and as many combi plasma/melta as you can throw in and you can unleash a devestating amount of firepower very quickly forcing your opponent to start testing early. In my small circle of friends my stern guard are undeafeated in kill team.
Brother-Captain Lucius
ah balls did not read the part on the DS. Guess ill be going with Sternguard so. The idea was to have them fully painted by sunday to play. Looks like ill be buying + painting them on saturday :P . @ B Powers i do not think you can take any vehicles as the rule is the player is out when his force drops below half. So how would vehicles work? If so i would just use my Flamestorm Baal as it will be dense cityfight B)
Bradley Powers
That's a very good question. I honestly don't really know the answer. At my LGS, we use the Ld value that the Furioso Librarian uses for psychic tests (10). I do remember reading somewhere (I don't remember where, and I don't remember if it was official or not) that vehicles in kill teams have Ld 10 for testing purposes. - Bradley
Leonaides
How about an Honour Guard Squad - no wasteage of HI, sang priest in tehre to give all FNP/FC to anyone in range, can put a few special weapons in there instead of just CC upgrades... Bradley Powers
No can do, Honor Guard's an HQ. I'm sorry. <_<
Brother-Captain Lucius
I think Sternguard would be best. Give a Heavy weapon Relentless, one of em furious charge and another move through cover. (it will be in dense cityfight)
Chaplain Gunzhard
I play a LOT of kill team... you have to remember the mission: GET MODEL COUNT TO HALF OR LESS. (period) Low model count armies typically do not fair well unless they have some incredible saves and invulnerables. Assault is very much underwhelming and it's important to remember that even if you charge with a million attacks and Furious Charge etc etc - you are only charging ONE enemy model, and therefore only potentially killing one. Your shooty sternguard approach was the right idea... but too expensive and too few models. I came close to winning a KT tournament with, believe it or not, a squad of Scouts and a SP. When giving out specialties I used the following: The Missile launcher scout had 'relentless', the priest had 'scout' (IC's already have 'move through cover'), and the PW sergeant had 'preferred enemy' (but I've since changed this last one). Imo, the best Blood Angel kill teams are either scouts (with Priest for FnP) or a standard Tactical squad. Bolters are awesome in KT, and a heavy weapon with 'relentless' really brings some hurt. Soups
Oh, how lucky you guys are not to have "that guy" at your store. When I run killteams, I usually run 10 death company with bolters. It's easy enough to play, without being stupid powerful. Watching my DC run around in circles chasing a lone guardsman/ork while shooting bolters where ever is a sight to see. It feels like a kill team to me. ANGRY ANGRY DUDES! But at my store, "that guy" has been assigned the duty of running the tournament for killteams. Originally, we had a rule for no unique/named models, no armor value over 32 (11,11,10 or 12,10,10 vehicles). Just to keep things from getting stupid. He has done away with that, and is not going to be doing comp score. So, in true "that guy" fashion, he is running a vendetta gunship and some ratlings. I am so frustrated over this, my 2 choices are to play his dumb games, or just not participate. I really don't want to play a game that comes down to who wins the roll off. He is also giving the gunship stealth, so if he does lose the dice roll, he scouts into a flat-out 3+ cover save. If I can't get a lascannon from a sternguard/tac squad turn one, it's gg. If I DO decide to play the herpa derpa tournament, I plan on running a tank hunting baal predator, with a tech marine in jump pack running behind it. either with scout or feel no pain.
CaptainLNH
I run a base SG squad. One for the Power Weapons, two for the JumpPacks, three for the Angelus Boltguns, and finally for the awsome in kill teams... FEARLESS rule. In my worst game, I lost four men to a Tyranid Warrior group. My one Fearless SG killed all three Warriors in CC, in three turns. To counter Dreads, walkers etc. I give one guy rending rule. With Fearless, my men will fight to the last breath.
Chaplain Gunzhard
Whatever you decide to bring remember to play the mission - get him below half. There is no point engaging his toughest models when you can kill the weaker stuff and make his entire army go away because he was below half. Hopefully the organizers stick to the true rules as the below-half-roll-off is really what keeps the game even, as no codex is balanced at 200 points. The same tournament I almost won, had one guy complain so much because he didn't play the mission and was just killing elite-ish models, thinking he was winning and always losing the roll-off... the next time they ran the event the organizers eliminated the roll-off rule - lame. BrotherTim
In kill team games I prefer to run a 7 man sternguard veteran squad with 2 heavy bolters. One hb gets relentless and the other gets slow and purposeful. Top that off with 3 combi-meltas for anti-tank and an extra special ability and your at a cool 200pts. I usually give the sgt feel no pain, but you can do whatever you want.
Bradley Powers
I just tried out 5 Sternguard and 3 DC. WIth my 15 points, I give my Sternguard some combination of meltagun, heavy bolter, plasma cannon, or combi weapons, depending on my mood. I like the combination of Missile Launcher HB, and Combi Plasma. That list did really well against demons, tau, and nids.
