Brooke
Hi all. I've just gotten into the hobby and really enjoying the painting side of it. However I am just wonering if anyone can give me some advise on how to paint my tanks for my Blood Angels chapter? The method i'd used on my Land Raider and Rhino was a sprayed white undercoat and then Blood Red airbrushed on for the red. Although after applying a Baal Red wash and the various highlighting stages it looked ok, it still looked a bit of a bright ''Fire Engine'' Red and not a bit deeper colour I was hoping for. Can any one help me with this? (pictures would also be great too if possible), Colours, undercoat used in what stages etc. Many Thanks in advance Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/216071-help-with-blood-angels-tanks/ Share on other sites
Fire Lord Captain
I sprayed my tank with black undercoat then army painter red. Looks great! Some people will say it won't work as they are both primers but there is no way that paint is coming off except with a knife. I'll post a pic later. Red Fury
^Yeah, I posted a while back about how the AP pure red is semi-transparent and will be darker over a black primer. People just didn't believe me for some reason. it still looked a bit of a bright ''Fire Engine'' Redwait, what's wrong with that?! If you want it darker then you need a more powerful wash than Baal red, it just doesn't do enough. I use the Ogryn flesh wash on my BA troops before highlighting and finishing with a baal red wash to give them a bit darker shadows.Otherwise, you need to start off darker and work your way up, but red gore looks way too dark, very Blood ravensish. Brooke
Cheers for the help guys. I'll give the Ogryn Flesh Wash a try on my 2 tanks that I have at the minute as it can only improve on how they look at the moment. I agree with the Red Gore being to dark too. I tried Mechrite Red on a tactical squad like someone recomendeed in the GW store and that came out almost a purple. Didn't look good at all. I think thats the method i'll use from now on. Black undercoat with the red on top of that. Thanks again for the help, and looking forward to seeing the pics Fire Lord :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/216071-help-with-blood-angels-tanks/#findComment-2578814 Share on other sites
Rogue Trader Voril
I use white primer. Base coat with Red Gore (Mechrite Red if you need to cover something up), and paint the main color Blood Red leaving the shadowed areas Red Gore. Highlight with Blazing Orange and Sunburst Yellow. Rust, dust, and dirt to suit. http://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww322/roguetradervoril/100_3770.jpghttp://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww322/roguetradervoril/100_3709.jpghttp://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww322/roguetradervoril/100_3667.jpghttp://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww322/roguetradervoril/100_3638.jpghttp://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww322/roguetradervoril/100_3665.jpghttp://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww322/roguetradervoril/100_3639.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/216071-help-with-blood-angels-tanks/#findComment-2578841 Share on other sites
