The Shiny One
As i was working on my IA for the Iron Cherubim, i had a new idea for another chapter, and the following developed quit fast. So here it is, i hope you like it. Guardians of Destruction "Founded to guard from destruction, we now have become destruction." Battle-Brother Dalktuu The Guardians of Destruction have suffered a partial fall of there chapter to Slaanesh, after they defeated there fallen brothers, they went on a crusade of shame and hatred, channeling there anger onto the infinite battlefields of the universe. Origin The founding of the chapter took place around the start of M39, when the High Lords of Terra decided there was need of another Space Marine Chapter to improve security around the eye of terror. They choice Ultramarine gene-seed for its purity for this purpose. The chapter was trained by veterans of the Black Consuls, they were honored to name the new chapter and choice "Guardians of Destruction", to reflect the purpose of protecting the Imperium from the dangers that come out of the eye of terror. After there training the Guardians choice the civilized world Vhalgeria as there homeworld for its untainted recruits and strategical position near the eye of terror. The chapter developed quite normal at first. They had there own philosophy of interaction with the inhabitants of Vhalgeria but fulfilled there purpose of guarding the eye very impressive. At the beginning of M41 the Thorian Lord Inquisitor Leonhardt van Strakh was commissioned to lead a great expedition onto the surrounding worlds of the eye of terror with a unknown mission and was therefor searching for help within the space marine chapters. The relatively young Guardians of Destruction saw this as an opportunity to prove there bravery. The 2th, 3th, 6th and 7th company accompanied the inquisitor alone. This crusade went over a century outside of the eye of terror and the four companies witnessed the greatest horrors a human could think of, but proved themselves to withstand the chaos. Though after the veterans returned to Vhalgeria they could not help themselves seeing tendencies of a slaanesh-like corruption in the noble class and even there chapters highest commanders. They noble class of Vhalgeria had enslaved the other classes completely, which was more than tolerated by the Chapter Master, it was welcome as long as they all worshiped the Guardians. The returning captains expressing there concern to the chaptermaster, but it was to late. He did not agree to change his ways. Only one other captain realized the corruption and agreed to support them. Knowing that they sure could nothing do against the majority of the chapter, the captains turned to van Strakh and his Grandmaster, who decided after further investigation to purge the corrupted Guardians of Destruction immediately and give the uncorrupted companies the option of attacking there brothers together with the Sisters of Battle or a penalty crusade. The companies decided to fight there corrupted brothers, to save the enslaved inhabitants of there homeworld. After defeating the corrupted brothers the fanatic Sisters of Battle started to punish the population and the Lord Inquisition in charge decides that its properly the best to cleans the world completely. Shock by the sisters and inquisitions cruelty, the Guardians of Destruction develop disrespect against the Imperium and deep mistrust in leading structures because of there high risk of false decisions. Knowing that they can never express this feeling, without the risk of being eliminated immediately, they voluntarily decided to go on a penalty crusade, knowing that as long as they fight, the Imperium will still supply them, and not hunt them down. Eventually the lost of there homeworld and disrespect for the Imperium became hate, which drives the Guardians and gets projected on to all there enemies in there aimless crusade of destruction. Believe Before the corruption by Slaanesh the chapter believed in its own and the Imperiums strength, and kept up the thought of being the sons of the emperor. This vanity and ignorance to the dangers of the eye of terror lead the way for Slaanesh to corrupt the leaders of the chapter. After the purgation of there homeworld the Guardians of Destruction bear a deep hatred against everything. There only desire that keeps them alive is the urge for destruction. The only leader they recognize is the emperor, and they mistrust every one else, who holds power over others. Combat Doctrines They fight with disregard of there own lives, which expresses itself in there armory, they don't clean it, and the techmarines do only the necessary maintenance. Some Inquisitors believe they could be blessed by Khorne without knowing, but they have not shown any aggression against the imperium yet and there geneseed seems stable till now. But as long as they fulfill there penalty crusade, the Lord Inquisitor Leonhardt van Strakh and his conclave are responsible for them and the Guardians fate lies in there hands. Homeworld Vhalgeria was a civilized/mining world near the eye of terror. The ruling noble class was quite developed and interacted with the Imperium, they traded the minerals of the planet with other worlds. The serfs made up 87% of the population, but they work only for food, which was provided by the noble class. The hard work in the mines made them quite suitable for recruitment. Combined with the strategic position of the planet the Guardians saddled there fortress monastery in the nobles capital of the planet. The nobles were quite pleased with this because the high imperial tithe was seen as paying for security that served no purpose. The Space Marines brought real reliable security to the planet and the status of Aptus Non. Paying the Marines with recruits and supplies was seen more as a honor than a tithe. A significant difference to other chapters was how the Guardians of Destruction lived with the inhabitants of Vhalgeria together. They were seen as semi-god, who walk the earth, this closeness to the people resulted in a cult, which believed more in the Marines than in the Imperium. The Guardians started even teaching the inhabitants that they were the children of the Emperor, which lead the cult grew even more. For recruitment the marines arranged together with the cult a yearly tournaments for the youth of the planet in the capital, who would pilgrimage from all over Vhalgeria to compete. The last six survivors of this brutal rituals would be aloud to enter the chapters fortress and become a child of the emperor himself. Organisation Before the fall of Vhalgeria the Guardians of Destruction honored the codex like there primarch would have wanted. Evan the fall to Slaanesh did not effect the organization and the believe in the codex that much, it only influenced the actions of the individuals. The purgation of Vhalgeria was somehow more significant. The Guardians are now only 3-4 companies strong. To prevent such a fall of a individual, they organize through a council of the nine oldest members of the chapter, which include the four remaining captains, and some of the apothecary and techmarines. For command in battles they declare a random champion, who will lead them. They trust in the power of the emperor to always pike the right brother for this task. Because all Librarians and chaplains were stationed on the homeworld during the purgation and no recruitment takes place in the chapter, they are not available for the Guardians. There number of techmarines and apothecary is so low, that they stay mostly on the chapters strike cruisers to maintain the chapters survival. The Guardians of Destruction removed all the Imperial insignia of there armor and weapons, declaring to Lord Inquisitor Leonhardt van Strakh that they are not worthy till they fulfill there penalty crusade. Van Strakh was willing to except this because he himself thought that wearing the Imperial insignia was one of the greatest honors a man could get, and only the trusted members of his retinue were allowed to wear them. Because of there heretic beliefs they keep to theme self and don't speak with outsiders. On there crusade they try to avoid fighting with other imperial forces as possible. Geneseed The Ultramarine geneseed of the Guardians is extremely stable. Even as there members were corruped by Slaanesh no mutations were seen that expressed this possession. As the Guardians are now on there crusade of hatred and destruction the geneseed is carefully watched by the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Inquisition for any signes of corruption, but seems untouched for know. And here are the chapter colorschemes. the light one is before the corruption, the dark one after. How do you like it? Are there any major flaws with it? Any details that don't fit? Any false grammar perhaps? Thank you all in advance for reading it! Shinzaren
Lots of False Grammar, but the concept seems alright. I dunno about the colors though. The first seems very...bright, and the second seems quite...poopy... NightrawenII
The chapter was trained by Veterans of the Black Consuls, how returned to there chapter after getting the honor to name the new Chapter. - At the beginning of M41 the thornian Lord Inquisitor Leonhardt van Strakh was commissioned to lead a great expedition into the eye of terror with a unknown mission and was therefor searching for help within the space marine chapters. - Thorian. This crusade went over a century outside of the eye of terror and the four companies witnessed the greatest horrors a human could think of, but proved themselves to withstand the chaos. - inside, surely? - 2nd the mission inside EoT is suicide. They noble class of Vhalgeria had enslaved the other classes completely, which was more than tolerated by the chaptermaster, it was welcome as long as they all worshiped the Guardians. - Chapter Master; two separated words. Knowing that they sure could nothing do against the majority of the chapter, the captains turned to van Strakh and his Grandmaster, who decided after further investigation to purge the corrupted Guardians of Destruction immediately and give the uncorrupted companies the option of attacking there brothers together with the Grey Knights and Sisters of Battle or a penalty crusade. The companies decided to fight there corrupted brothers, to save the enslaved inhabitants of there homeworld. - "his Grandmaster" is wrong choice of words. - Either Grey Knights or Sisters of Battle, not both. - Oh, "Don't worry the GKs surround our perimeter to protect us....." :o After defeating the corrupted brothers the fanatic sisters of battle start to punish the population and the lord Inquisition in charge decides that its properly the best to cleans the world completely. Shock by the sisters and inquisitions cruelty, the Guardians of Destruction develop disrespect against the Imperium and deep mistrust in leading structures because of there high risk to false decisions. - "Heresy is like a garden weed, it won't stop feeding until you... BURN THE WHOLE DAMN GARDEN WITH A FLAMER, BURN IT, BURN IT TO HELL!!!!!" "Is there a wittle puppy in the garden? ITS A DAEMON! BURN IT!" ;) Some Inquisitors believe they could be blessed by Khorne without knowing, but they have not shown any aggression against the imperium yet and there geneseed seems stable till now. - If they did, there will be no GoD tomorrow. To prevent such a fall of a individual, they organize through a council of the 10th oldest members of the chapter - 10 or ten, 10th is ordinal numeral. :D The Guardians of Destruction removed all the Imperial insignia of there armor and weapons, declaring to the inquisition that they are not worthy till they fulfill there penalty crusade. Because of there heretic beliefs they keep to theme self and don't speak with outsiders. - If they did, everyone and their moma will confuse them with renegades. How do you like it? Are there any major flaws with it? Any details that don't fit? Any false grammar perhaps? The grammar is god-awful. <_< Edit: Guh! Ninja'd by Shinzaren. Captain Juan Juarez
In terms of grammar and spelling, try to consider that perhaps English is not the writers native language. The Shiny One
Yeah sorry for the bad grammar! But thank you for pointing some of it out. I will try my best Regarding the colors: The first is so bright to represent the slaanesh-like tendencies. The second one is just extrem dirty....not poopy... and with some of the old colors shining through, but that did not work with the SM painter. I found the term Grandmaster in the lexicanum and thought it fits to this subject. Grandmaster - The title sometimes given to the Inquisitor Lord who runs a sector or sub-sector Conclave; the Inquisitorial authority for a specific sector of Imperial space. Would changing it into "Inquisitorial Conclave" fit better? I read here in the forum that the brazen claws chapter operates within the eye of terror. If this is an exception, i will change the expedition of the guardians to anywhere else.
