The Rookery is the Chapter’s military might and is capable of acting as a staging ground for the whole chapter though this is a rare occurrence and more commonly there are no more than two companies occupying the fortress at any one time. Founding and Geneseed The Magma Crows are a Raven Guard successors they comprise their geneseed and are missing Mucranoid and Betcher's Gland implants, their malfunctioning Melanchromic Organ has gives them a pale complexion not unlike their Raven Guard cousins though as to date their hair and eye colour appears to have been unaffected by the taint. The Apothecaries of Mercy strive in constant battle to screen and purify the damaged gene-seed legacy of the Raven Guards to maintain a clean stock for use in creating new Space Marines, it is the Apothecaries of Mercy's duty to ensure that only the strongest are accepted for implantation to ensure the continued growth of the chapter and reduce the risk of losses during the process to create space marines. The Magma Crows are a 23rd founding Chapter The First Chapter Master Gideos began construction of the Fortress Monastery Crows Haven upon Mercy during the closing years of M37 and into the dawning of M38, after his death Chapter Master Eros commissioned the building of the Star Fortress Rookery in the centuries following the 23rd founding as the chapters battle tactics evolved. Founded to defend the Cathaxian Sector from a rising increase in heretical activity during the dying years of M37, the High Lords suspected traitor legions to be behind the many cultist uprisings that plagued the sector but had little or no evidence to prove this theory it was hoped that a dedicated force to protect the sector would draw out the true masters of the cults and force their hand into a conflict the Imperium could crush. Recruitment The Magma Crows select their recruits from many worlds where those with the potential to become space marines are identified and selected under scrutiny by the Chapters Apothecaries and Chaplains, this method of recruitment has resulted in an infrequent and erratic and the intake for the chapter is never guaranteed as such the 10th Company is often heavily over strength to ensure the continued survival of the chapter in times of poor recruitment. The Chapter is also instils a strong sense of brotherhood within their initiates unifying children of many worlds which carries over to their brotherhood as marines. Once recruits are selected, they are transported to Mercy where they undergo a battery of tests to ensure that their selection will result in a stable geneseed host, once they have been approved they spend their first cycle of indoctrination within the fortress-monastery. Here they are instructed in the basics of combat and etiquette of the chapter, their bodies are conditioned through a gruelling physical regime. Once their first cycle is completed the initiates must complete the Rite of Initiation into the Chapter those deemed unworthy are inducted into the ranks of the Chapter’s Menials and Serfs to continue their service to the chapters either on Mercy as Adepts and scholars or on board The Rookery as support staff and ratings. Each successful Initiate Aspirant must complete the “Long Walk” across the surface of Mercy to the Initiation Chamber the walk is close to a hundred kilometres and filled with the natural dangers of the volcanic wasteland, radiation and solar flares tests the initiates survival instincts to the limit as the fight to complete the trial, equipped with only a re-breather and rad-cloak their bodies are ravaged by the environment leaving those who complete the walk in a weakened state of near death. It is in this state they enter last stages of their initiation, entering the preparation chamber they are placed into a deep chemical induced coma and when they awaken they will be renewed in body, repaired and full of vigour from the first stages of their transformation into a space marine, As a final tests the reborn Neophyte Ascendant is required to retrace their steps back to Sanctuary their new bodies resistant to the harsh environment of Mercy, as hey cross the plains the first thing the young Marines notice is the forbidding sight of The Rookery hanging in the sky of Marcy when they return to Sanctuary their Brothers of the 10th Company are there to welcome them into their ranks to mark this event a feast is held over the next days before the company departs Mercy to continue their duties to the Imperium, the Neophyte will not return to Mercy each cycle to welcome the new Neophytes until his elevation to a fully fledged space marine. Organisation and Combat Doctrine The Magma Crows like their parent chapter the Raven Guard are known for their rapid strike tactics and are experts at hitting weak points in enemy defences with precision and devastating results as well as being adepts at performing lightning strikes upon locations of tactical importance to cripple their enemies routes of supply and reinforcement. The Magma Crows are known to make extensive use of Scout insertion forces deploying then as a vanguard force before any main assault to map and scout the terrain before relaying deployment and tactical revisions to the main force, Scout Sergeants of the 10th company are highly skilled in battle tactics and are as respected for their tactical input as much as any other brother in the chapter. When the Magma Crow’s main forces take to the field they deploy in two waves first a hard hitting strike of assault marines will rain down upon the enemy using drop pods or deep strike tactics to punch a hole in the enemy before a second wave of tactical and devastator marines deploy via drop pod or Rhino and Razorback in support to their brothers. Due to their preferred method of warfare the Chapter has limited access to heavier tanks with only a few spread across the active battle groups they are known to possesses only a single Land Raider which is reserved for the sole use of the Chapter Master and his body guard in warfare, where they are limited in heavy support the chapter is abundant in rapid support vehicles with each battle group holding a number of land speeder, bikes and drop pods within the halls of their armouries, many of the battle groups across the chapter also hold an unusually high number of Dreadnoughts within their armouries allowing companies to remain active with the power of multiple Dreadnoughts despite losses to their numbers. Magma Crow Captains are actively encouraged to be independent thinkers with each company deployed to a theatre of warfare separated from high command they are expected to follow the examples set by their parent chapter and their Gene Primach Corax, as such many battle groups operate for long periods of time without returning to the Rookery or Sanctuary and are often under strength due to losses during battle though each Captain is instilled with a sense of preservation never committing to reckless actions that place their brothers lives in unnecessary jeopardy this mentality as led to some to accuse the Magma Crows of being overly meticulous in their planning of hit and run tactics even going as far as to question the resolve and courage of the chapter as a whole. The Magma Crows are not strict followers of the Codex Astartes instead they operate six full battle companies with an even distribution of tactical and assault squads supported by devastator squads, the force disposition of each company allows the Captain to maximise the effectiveness of his company by allowing him to deploy splinter forces without need to return to The Rookery. Each company has a group of scouts attached to them which act as insertion forces entering the field long before the main force, these scout squads are integral to the Magma Crows battle strategies feeding vital data to the main force. Veteran Company The 1st Company consists of The Chapters most experienced Veteran Squads, these warriors are the most skilled respected assault specialists each one fully able to lead a battle company in his own rights, these marines are often given leave to join the ranks of the Deathwatch and many of the company carry their Deathwatch shoulder guard into battle as a sign of their experience. It is rare for the first company to take to the field as a single force instead each squad within the company is free to attached themselves to the Battle Companies and Battle Groups of the chapter, then the company does act as a single force battles are swift and decisive proving the veterans skills and worth. Battle Companies The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Companies make up the Chapters active battle companies. They operate independent of the chapter each captain acting as his own commander. The companies are organised into 3 Tactical Squads, 3 Assault Squads and 2 Devastator Squads. The Assault Squads can be deployed as Bike Squadrons or Land Speeder Squadrons, the battle companies in addition to their full battle brother squads operate 2-5 scout insertion squads whose roles are to deploy before the full battle company and scout the enemy lines for deployment zones and attack paths. Battle Companies often use Rhino and Razorback transports, and commonly have Dreadnoughts. Reserve Companies The 8th, 9th and 10th Companies are Castellan Companies, charged with the protection and management of the Rookery and Mercy Fortress’ while many would see this as a lowly task the marines tasked with Castellan duty see this as one of the most important duties they could be tasked with. The marines of the 8th company act as the Castellan’s of The Rookery Star Fortress and their Captain bears the honorific of Castellan Commander. The 9th company are the Castellans of Mercy and guardians of the Chapters most revered relic and artefacts, the Castellan Commander of Mercy sits in Governorship of the Fortress second only to the Chapter Master himself who splits his time between Mercy and the Rookery The 8th and 9th companies are divided evenly between Tactical and Devastator SquadsThe 10th company are officially stationed upon Mercy though once Scouts are allocated to a company they only ever return to Mercy to welcome their new Neophyte brothers. The Apothecarion Brother Apothecary The Apothecary's role within the Magma Crow's is likened to that of a Chaplain they are highly revered for their work in maintaining the chapters purity and unlike Chaplains present an approachable face for brother marines, their duty is not only to serve as a field medic and bio-engineer but to it is their sacred task to seek out and screen potential new recruits for the chapter, it is the Apothecary's duty to ensure that the Chapter's continued physical survival much like it is a Chaplains duty to ensure their spiritual survival as such it falls to the Apothecaries to carry out the solemn task of removing threats and taints from the Chapter's gene pool, a fact further highlighted by their imperfections inherited from their Gene-seed, it has not been unheard of for an Apothecary to turn his weapons upon his sworn battle brothers to prevent taint from entering the chapter, a task they undertake with a heavy heart for the greater good of the chapter. Along with being highly trained in medicine, they are some of the most elite warriors in the chapter spending years honing their battle skills as well as their medical knowledge, they are considered to possess great wisdom often making them close advisers to battle commanders and brother marines. When an Apothecary of the Chapter falls in battle their loss is greatly lamented the passing of their brother felt throughout the chapter, each Apothecary is given a special place within the Hall of Remembrance to signify the importance of their duties to the Chapter. A body of Apothecaries and their subordinates Brother Marines schooled in basic field medics are attached to each company and accompany them into battle. Additional Apothecary staff are based within the Apothecarion in the Sanctuary these apothecaries will never take to the field, instead carrying out bio-engineering to combat the malfunctions within their Gene Seed they also occupying themselves in the screening and training of Neophytes and potential new Apothecaries. Another Apothecarion is located on The Rookery and is the Chapter centre for medical treatment of injured battle brothers here the Apothecaries specialise in surgery over bio-engineering. Any feedback would be appreciatedCheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/216321-ia-magma-crows/ Share on other sites

NightrawenII
Welcome in the Liber. I recommend to read the Guide to DIYing and Octaguide 2.0. Homeworld - Why do they use Mercy as the homeworld? It's largely meaningless to have such homeworld. Founding and Geneseed - The RavenGuard gene-seed is unstable; How this affects your Chapter? It is believed that the Magma Crows are a 23rd founding Chapter though records have been lost to confirm this it is simply speculated that the Chapter ‘s fortress and Star Fortress’ were completed in the aftermath of the 23rd founding. - Any reason for having an unknown origins? Recruitment The Chapter is also care to instil a strong sense of brotherhood within their initiates to build a strong bond of brotherhood within the ranks of their marines. - Aspirants, Initates are different. - ...instil a strong sense of brotherhood to build a strong sense of brotherhood. ;) Once their first cycle is completed the initiates must complete the Rite of Initiation into the Chapter those deemed unworthy are instead inducted into the ranks of the Chapter’s Menials and Serfs to further maintain the chapters stability. - explain, please. finally the Neophyte Ascendant retrace their steps unaffected by Mercy’s environment - Marines are affected by radiation like any other living thing. ++++ - This section is complicated. I have had to read it several times to understand. Necris
Homeworld- Why do they use Mercy as the homeworld? It's largely meaningless to have such homeworld. Hopefully I've covered this now Founding and Geneseed- The RavenGuard gene-seed is unstable; How this affects your Chapter? Index Astartes: RavenGuard, the gene-seed section. Are the records being lost not enough of a reason for them being an unknown origin? Without mentioning how did they lost these records in the first place.... No. Their preferred combat methods and hopefully covered the increase of dreads Dreads are rare and precious machines. You will have ten of them at best. Battle CompaniesThe companies are organised into 3 Tactical Squads, 3 Assault Squads and 2 Devastator Squads. Bio-researcher comes from Lexicanum *sigh* - Why are the Apothecaries considered as wise advisors? - Why is the loss of Apothecary so significant for your Chapter? - The bio-researcher part, hmmm... well it seems that it dates back to the 2nd edition and it has been semi-retconned since then. Necris
QUOTETheir preferred combat methods and hopefully covered the increase of dreads Dreads are rare and precious machines. You will have ten of them at best. Having just had a sit down to help a friend with his Blood Angels army I noticed the chapter organisation table in the codex and did a quick tally of dreads and counted 31 that's not overly rare so I think I'll have more than 10 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/216321-ia-magma-crows/#findComment-2579813 Share on other sites
Shinzaren
Blood Angels are a first founding chapter, with around 10,000 years of battle and history. Your Crows are 23rd Founding, which places you in the M38 area. (As an aside, your founding is M38, and yet you started building your fortress in M37. Jumping the gun a bit aren't you?) That's barely 3,000 years of fighting, and completely lacking in the old ties that the Blood Angels or Ultramarines would have. 10 Dreadnoughts is plenty. tbh dude i liked it  ure effectively the cm of your own legion, do what u think is best, other people dont like yours thats fine, theyre not the chapter master of theirs ;) plus abit of new though without being boged down by fans who defend the fluff more than the creators is always a rare thing to come across ;) (just do mary sue it!) Reading this caused me physical pain, and I wept tears of blood all over my computer. Please sir, for the good of mankind, never ever use leet speek again. PorridgeMeister
This is an interesting idea and one that I like very much ;) However, the colour scheme looks a bit...erratic and my dear collegues, Shinzaren and Nightrawen have a good point; if your chapter has only one Land Raider, but lots of Dreadnoughts, that doesn't really make sense. Dreadnoughts are very rare and valued assets like TDA albeit much rarer; if a chapter has access to only ten to twenty suits of TDA, how many Dreadnoughts will they have? Maybe two if they are very lucky. In Brothers of the Snake, the Dreadnought Autolochus is held in such a great esteem by the other Iron Snakes so far as the Chapter Master Seydon talks to hi as unto an equal. Thats how much respect Dreads get in most Chapters. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/216321-ia-magma-crows/#findComment-2580305 Share on other sites
