My regular RG opponent and I teamed up with 2500 each against a Tau/UM horde. We agreed on 2.5 FOC given the points limit. We deployed everything, scouts holding our objective with 5 BA ASMs close by and everthing else shielded behind a wall of tanks and Dreads. Our oppo left his bikes, 5 man scouts and LS in reserve. Turn 1 UM 2 UM Rhinos charged up the centre of the table. A Dread killed an RG Devestator. LR/TLLC Preds killed 4 more. UM Tac ML shook Rhino on far right. UM Tac ML shook Dread in centre. Crisis suit fired missile pod at Scouts, killing 1. Termies killed the rest. BA/RG 5 BA RAS go to ground. Devs combat squad falls back. Tanks advanced at combat speed, JP horde followed. RG snipers killed 4 UM Tacs. RG Dev combat squad blows TLLC pred, killing last UM Tac in explosion. OB from Pedro and Vindi both fail. Baal kills 2 Termies. Melta dread wrecks Pred Destructor near Tau. Turn 2 UM UM scouts arrive at BA/RG objective via outflank, killing one RG scout. Razorback/Dread kill 2 Devs. LR shakes RG Rhino. Pred destructor shakes RG AC/ML dread. Crisis suit wrecks BA LandSpeeder. MG inside Rhino pops Baal pred, explodes killing 2 RG ASMs. UM ASMs charge AC/ML Dread, MB, explodes. BA/RG Everything piles forwards; Snipers kill 2 Tacs, BA 5 man RAS shoot 1 scout, then assault killing 1 more, losing 1. 10 BA RAS kill 2 ASMs, assault and wipe them out, losing 1. MG in RG Rhino wrecks UM Rhino. Meph mashes the other Rhino in CC, killing 1 UM Tac in explosion. Other 9 Tacs pile out. Turn 3 UM Dreads/UM Snipers/Pred Destructor kill 4 of 10 man RAS. Tri-las Pred pops Rhino killing 1 RG Tac. LS Squadron landing from DS kills last of Devs. Attack bike squadron arrives and destroy MM Dread from rear. Tac MG pops BA LR (noooooo). 6" explosion hits 48 models, killing 1 RG ASM (lol). Tau Shield Drone, Termies, Fire warriors kill 3 RG ASMs and wound Shrike. ASM/Scout combat remains locked, losing 1 each. BA/RG Everything continues advance, Rhino pops smoke. ASMs shoot 1 UM LS. BA Tacs kill 3 UM Tacs, leaving door open for DC to charge the 9. VAS kill 1 AB and wound another, Sternguard finish them. HG plasma kills 1 Termie. DC shoot 1 UM Tac then assault killing another 7. The survivors flee. RAS finish the scouts off. Shrike/Meph kill 1 Termie each, RG Chapter master kills 2 and ASMs finish the last. They all consolidate towards the Tau. Turn 4 UM Bikes kill 2 RAS, leaving the Sergeant. UM Command Squad kill 4 RG Tacs, Tri-Las Pred kills 1. Tau Drones, Tac ML, Pred Destructor kill 3 DC (the UM player had better targets to my mind and the DC became a very useful bullet magnet for me after mashing his Tacs). Crisis suit wrecks RG AutoCannon Dread. Tacs kill 1 RG ASM. Fire Warriors wound Shrike, Commander Shas wounds Caspir and the Fire warrios kill him (double Snake eyes!). 24 shots at Meph from the fire warriors fail to wound him. RB kills 2 RAS. BA/RG VAS lose 2 men to dangerous terrain (gamble as they were out of the fight and needed to get forward). Vindi stuns Hammerhead. RG Pred wrecks 1 UM LS. Snipers kill 3 of UM Command Squad and wound Captain. RAS plasma 2 bikers. BA Pred fries UM Razorback. BA Tacs immob AC Dread. DC shoot 3 gun drones, last flees. RG Tacs krak Trilas Pred which explodes. Dante + HG attack Tau/5 Tacs. Dante kills 6 Tau, HG kill all Tacs and last Tau. Meph swats 5 Tau. Shrike and last ASM (TH) kill Commander Shas'O. VAS attack closest Piranha which kill 3 with flechette launchers. PF wrecks piranha. Turn 5 UM Drone flees off table. LR immobs BA Tri-las and makes it a Bi-las (destroys turret). Dread AC kills 2 BA tacs. Last 2 UM Tacs from nearby squad kil Shrike/TH ASM. Other tacs kill HG PG. BA/RG Meph wings behind them Hammerhead. BA Bi-las pops a Crisis Suit. ASMs shake last LS but can't finish it in assault. VAS shoot 3 fire warriors. RG Tacs kill Command Squad champion, leaving 1 wounded Captain. HG shoot 1, then assault. Dante kills 4 or 5, HG finish the rest. Meph rips the Hammerhead apart in CC. End of game We failed the roll for a 6th turn. BA/RG claimed victory, holding the UM home objective, while the UM landspeeder contested the BA/RG home objective. A few points that could really have made the difference in that game - one of his DCCW Dreads moved to charge range of my DC, then didn't rush in to tie them up. Instead they drew fire from 3 or 4 squads/tanks that could have murdered my HG and handed our oppo victory. Meph took a lot of flak from fire warriors that would also have been better spent on Dante/HG, when some AP2 weapons could easily have whittled him down. His only wound was to a failed perils of the warp test! Our failure to spot the melta-gun rhino rush cost us dear, losing the Baal and LR which barely did anything and created lots of craters that helped kill some of my VAS. My ally agreed to sacrifice his ASMs to keep Meph able to charge in and butcher everything, which he did admirably. A shame that his Chapter Master/Shrike both died cheaply. They would have allowed us to take the fight to the UM back line, which never fully got into the fight. C+C is welcome. Sorry for being overly wordy!
