Stealth, saga of the hunter and you?

I am going to try a 15 man bc pack with a wgpl, rp and wp squad. With Storm caller and saga of hunter, they should be running up the middle of the field with a 4 up cover save in the open :D. Sceen them with fen wolves and now they are packing a 3+ cover save.

I have a 2k list that's sporting 71 models and 4 hqs. Hero Hammering Horde!!!!! I'll let everyone know how it works out for me.

I ran a WGBL with saga of the hunter and would use him to outflank with my scouts and reak havoc on my enemy. It can be effective but eventually my opponents learned to stay clear of the edges and hammer the units with low ap shots. Its still a load of fun to play imo

I've been using a wolf guard battle leader with saga of the hunter practically since the codex was released, mostly for characterful reasons. I haven't gotten very many games in since the new FAQ, but i've certainly been enjoying its implications in the few I have played.

In one game, I used my battle leader in the usual fashion, outflanking with scouts. This unit has always worked well - outflanking five scouts with a wolf guard and wolf guard battle leader with behind enemy lines nearly always causes some serious damage, and at 1500 points, I've found that they can effectively end games. Now, with stealth and move through cover, they're survivable as well as lethal. You have to be careful with them, but it can be great stuff.

The other tactic that I used may have been even better, though. In my normal lists including the battle leader, I keep a space open in one of my rhinos for him, should I need to deploy him there instead of with the scouts. I did so in another game with excellent results. I was able to charge out of the rhino without much worry about return fire. My rune priest always has storm caller, so I had a good save in the open, but I didn't get to make use of it because the squad stayed in combat or in cover. Late in the game, I left the battle leader's squad in cover on an objective that they had cleared of two enemy squads. My opponent tried to shoot them off of it because he had no other option. I went to ground unnecessarily just for the 2+ cover save. I took no losses despite some pretty heavy fire.

Is there something changed about the saga of the hunter ( FAQ ), cause everybody is using this saga now these days. Stealth looks fine but the squad can't outflank I guess. I know that the saga looks like crap when the dex arrived.

The new 40K FAQ says that if some models in the unit have Stealth then all models in the unit gain the +1 to cover saves.

As for outflanking.... There is still some debate on this one. You can outflank, but there is disagreement about OBEL. Make sure you talk to you opponent or Tournament Organizer.

Going to try it today in a tournament. I'm using a Wolf Priest in a 15 BC unit and a WG :P

And now I'm home again, and I ended up as the winner of the tournament with my all infantry/no vehicle list :(

The saga is really great in some situations, escpecially when you have it on a Wolf priest. 2+save (When gone to ground) and fearless is awesome :(

So where is this FAQ of awesome?

alright, I'm gonna bite! but wow really? ^_^ you serious? It's almost like going to play 40K and borrowing your opponent's dice for you to use. Or going to play hockey without a hockey stick. Just joking around and poking fun at yah! :o Games Workshop FAQ

No disagreement when the rule is actually read.

OBEL is granted to the Wolf Scout unit when they outflank.

Anytime an IC joins a unit he is part of that unit for all intents and purposes except close combat where he fights as his own unit.

So when an IC joins the Wolf Scout unit and is able to Outflank with them via Saga of the Hunter, he Outflanks them using the rule for the Wolf Scout unit as he is part of that unit.

@Brother R.

While I whole heartedly agree with your interpretation I would recommend for all those reading this to discuss with your opponent first. That has been debated to death, back again as a zombie and then back to death with a head shot.

Just my two cents...

Then raised as a Frankenstein monster and burned to ashes, reborn as a phoenix and it still flies taunting us with its RAI and RAW fathers of flame.

sorry couldn't resist.

I ran 15 bloodclaws with a wolfpriest, pack leader, and a runepriest with stormcaller tonight. They were durable as hell.... but man on foot.. they are soooooooooooo slow. Ultimately I'm still just not a huge fan of bloodclaws. It doesn't seem to matter how you bling them up.

I got a good matchup in the first round with a lot of orks. Nothing special about that match.

Second I got a quite soft DE list with 3 Raiders, 2 Ravagers, 2 units of whyches, 1 incubi and some warrriors. The blood claws ate through 3 units in the game and I whiped him in round 5.

Third round I was matched against a pedro-list with 8 TH/SS terminators and a lot of marines. Seemed like a good matchup but was close to being a disaster, thanks to some good manoeuvres I managed to win.

The highlight of the match:

Fourth I meet my club buddy whos nasty DE list I have met some times before. He uses 3 Venoms, 4 Raiders, 3 Ravagers, Bloodbribes, Incubi, Shadowfield/agoniser lord and 4 scoring units.

I get first turn and wreck one raider and immobilize another. My long fangs die or is locked in assault after that. I end up contesting the middle objective with my wolf priest with one wound left on the last turn and draw the match.
