Culexus + Fear of Darkness

So I've had a thought..... if I run a culexus assasain + libby with JP and fear of darkness and manage to get the first turn, some major abusiveness could ensue.

Infiltrate the Culexus just outside of 18" away from the enemy unit you wish to target. The assasain will move forward 6" + run at least 1", meaning they will be within 12", giving the target unit Ld7.

Note that if you can deploy her out of LoS so you only need to be 12" away, you can then potentially still shoot/make your job easier.

JP libby jumps forward up to 12" (making sure you are out of the culexus' 12" range) and casts Fear up to 24".... at the unit that is now LD5 thanks to culexus + fear. Target unit runs like little girls.

So - is there a flaw in my theory, or is this combo as super awesome as I think it is?

Yes, your idea does seem sound. It might be a bit more tricky in reality. I mean, you do have enemy units to contend with etc...

However, I do feel it necessary to point out that I don't think that was quite the way it was intended, and that may go away very shortly. None of the new codexes are expected to be able to ally anymore and it will probably go away soon.

So, if you're playing a friendly game, it might be fun to toy with, however you better get that off fast because a competent enemy will know to take care of that fast. So unless you can get something off of the table really quick, like say a unit of Thunderwolves with a beefed up lord or some such nonsense, it might also turn into a waste of points.

I absolutely agree - the above tactic relies on you getting first turn and the enemy not siezing the intiative.

I run a JP libby with fear anyway, so if I don't get the first turn, there's nothing wasted with him and I'll just use the culexus as I see fit, it's not like it's a total waste of points (although culexus isn't the msot cost effective unit out there). Mind you, if you set up for it and your opponent siezes the initiative, your assasain is pretty boned.

Enjoy it while you can. The new GK codex will see an end to allies.

G :P

This is 100% wrong, and I will tell you why:

1) this is simply a rumor. Untill you have the codex in your hand and it says that you may not ally things from this book, then you cant know this.

2) if that is true, then you can still take a witch hunter inquisitor/assassin, which means that will infact work untill 2012 earliest

125pts plus losing two elites slots?? Nah..

I'd like to use Assassins, but that stupid rule that you need an Inq always puts me off.

Take an inquisitor with mystics + emperors tarot + culexus, then it's not such a waste.

you have to take an inquisitor lord. One 1 elite ally, which is the assassin. SO its 1 elites, 1 HQ to do this, not even including the librarian.

Indeed, although there are probably other things in the DH/WH retinue/wargear that would be worth taking also, to prevent the whole thing from becoming a one-trick-pony.

There is a little grey area, in that you could take an elites Daemonhunter Inquistor and a Witchhunter Assassin, as you can take one elite from each book and the Inquisitor requirement for Assassins does not specify it must be an Inquisitor from the same book. However, I wouldn't do something like that outside of something like 'Ard Boyz. It's a little too shady, even for me.

Didn't they already take the allies rule out of the Daemonhunters codex?

Only the digital version, but they officially stated anyone with the hardcopy can still use it.

This was ruled illegal at GW US events (though ruled legal at some GW europe events)
