trefenwyd
This question has been addressed in the OFFICIAL RULES FORUM a bit, but I wanted to get a few SW player opinions. Does Logan get his High King ability on the turn that he arrives from reserves? According to SW FAQ, the answer is clearly "yes". Accordin the new BRB FAQ, the answer is probably "no". In fact, it specifically says "no, unless specifically stated otherwise." The problem is whether or not to take the SW FAQ as "specifically stated otherwise". Argument for: It's black and white and if codex trumps BRB, then you could argue that codex FAQ trumps BRB FAQ. Argument against: BRB FAQ was written after SW FAQ and in the interim the gurus at GW decided that abilities require an on-board presence to be used. "Specifically stated otherwise" needs to be in a codex or errata; an outdated FAQ is not a viable rules source. If GW really wanted Logan to be able to use the ability off-board, they would have errata'd it. Thoughts? dswanick
I don't see the problem - BRB is full of instances where it gives a rule "unless specifically stated otherwise" where the Codex overrides becasue it specifically states otherwise. The FAQ is an upgrade/clarification of the BRB or Codex. The BRB FAQ says "no, except". The Codex FAQ says "yep, in this instance". **shrugs** Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/216732-logans-high-king-ability-and-new-faq/#findComment-2585157 Share on other sites
Durfast Spiritwolf
Yes, Codex trumps BRB and FAQ clarifies (and corrects mistakes in) the Codex Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/216732-logans-high-king-ability-and-new-faq/#findComment-2585368 Share on other sites
Wispy
The Space Wolves FAQ is "the codex stating otherwise." Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/216732-logans-high-king-ability-and-new-faq/#findComment-2586120 Share on other sites
wolvesoffenris
As many RAW literalists frequently state, specific trumps general for rules. The SW faq refers specifically to Logan and his ability. The BRB faq refers to everything. Since the SW faq clarification is more specific, it is the one that applies. JamesI
I have to agree with the above posters. When the BRB FAQ came out, the Wolf FAQ was removed, leading to speculation that Logan was going to lose his High King ability the turn he drop pods in. Since hte Wolf FAQ returned with that ruling still there, its not a question. Wolf FAQ overrides BRB FAQ.
