Thought I would put a small update as to what I have done so far:

And to show that I haven't been slacking off: I put together and painted a test bike to see how it will look: I would love to hear some opinions though :)

Aha! It is my favourite day. Small update day!!!

So, according to the list I put together I need to have a number of bikes and a couple of attack bikes put together, so I decided that it would be nice to have a little bit of a break from terminators and get into some bikes, so I decided to tackle making some bikes and basing them. Naturally (as all 40k players are) I had quite a number of bikes already assembled, and under/base coated. Adding to that, I had some resin bike bases sitting around (and still do, waiting for some xeno scum to be put on them no less.) which were destined to have some Ravenwing bikers put onto them. The only thing that annoyed me about them is that they are so plain:

So I had to do something about it. Firstly it had to be something that bikes would be able to roll over, so nothing too fancy like the Terminators have. Secondly I didn't want to do something simple like a pile of dirt placed randomly over the base. Thirdly I wanted to have a theme across the bases. Thinking about it, I didn't want to have a theme of something not Imperial. So I was thinking Imperial. Then I looked at the Ravenwing bikes, and saw the wings on the front guard. Imperial...wings... hmmm:

HAHA! Brilliant idea I thought to myself (and how I regret that thought in hindsight). The next problem was how to put it onto the base. Naturally the solution I came up with was with some thin plastic card(again a silly choice in hindsight-should have gone with cardboard). So I superglued the printout of the Imperial Eagle onto the plastic card, ensuring that every printed part was secured. Then I got out my trusty sharp scalpel and proceeded to cut out every last detail. After my success in this matter I then squared up the bases and superglued the parts of the eagle onto the bases:

Next step was to once again separate the bases held together by the eagles wings:

As you can see, it wasn't exactly the cleanest of finishes. So once again I took to scalpel and cleaned up the bases leaving me with with what I have waiting for me at the moment:

So to tell the truth I am quite pleased with my escapade with the bikes so far. I still need to do a little work on the guys on the bikes though. I need to find 3! meltaguns, and three arms to hold the guns. With all the sprues that I have sitting around my house, I am surprised that I could only find two meltas and only two arms (both with bolt pistols) that would be suitable to hold the gun at a usable angle. Quite disappointing really. I guess my next step is to hit up ebay and some bitz sites to stock up on some models. Oh, and to paint a couple of models that I can paint atm. I also need to get working on a couple of attack bikes, and their bases, going to have to work on that one next I guess.

FUN TIMES AHEAD!!!

Oh and @Metal Apostle. Sadly the idea for the power sword is not mine, I borrowed it from someone on this forum who apparantly borrowed it from someone else. So if you want to, feel free to follow the trend.

quick edit: My apologies for the crappy photos of the bases. Using a phone camera in terrible lighting. My excuse: I was in the ZONE man!!!

I found a sculpting tutorial on sculpting fur, and decided that I had to try it for myself:

as you can see, I decided that I would go a little overboard and customise the bejeezus out of this guy, but I think it works. The only problem I face is getting it to WYSIWYG levels, and to do that I need to add a bolt pistol somewhere, and there just isnt much space for adding one anymore.

anyways..

@mikhail

I have thought about some more wear and tear on the bases, streaking and such, but I discovered that when the bike is on the base, there isn't much of the base left that you can see, I might have a little look when I get the time :P

Thats all for now.

  • 2 months later...

Time to blow off some cobwebs on this thread and put in an update:

Since my last post I have been able to paint up the 6 bikes that I need for the army list I'm building towards, leaving me with just needing two attack bikes and the bikes are completed. This means all I have left to do to complete the army is:

2x Land Raiders

2x Attack Bikes; and

2x Terminator squads

The only problem with that at the moment is the extreme lack of money I'm facing and the exorbitant prices for any GW goods down here in Australia. I might need to go trawl some bitz sites for some bargains I think.

Anyways on to the pictures of work done. I apologise for how crap the pictures are, I need to find a decent set of lights and somewhere better to take the photos.

Firstly I have the full squad:

Then a close-up of these three:

And a bit of a better closeup of the sarg: (hopefully he is easily recognisable as the sarg...)

As always, any comments are appreciated

Thanks for the comments :P

Yeah GS is a fun substance to use, my recommendation is that you should start trying it out as much as possible ;) start small, gap filling, then slowly build up skill. there are still things that I am yet to attempt, anything of significant details, but no doubt I will get to it one day.

And I hope 2011 is a good year for me...and for everyone else. With any Luck, I will be able to finish off this army to the 1750pt goal list I am after. Only have two LRs, two ABs and two squads of termies to go...

enough of those complaints though, and on to progress... Yes I have been busy with some work. Typically, after I started this army, GW decided to put out an update to the DA codex, basically changing the options for the best wargear options for termies (as I am sure everyone here knows). Naturally, Belial should be given the option to wear alternate wargear such as the TH/SS combination. So I went out to do this:

So, as you can see, I have done quite a bit on the model, If you are curious about anything feel free to ask me ;)

Where'd you get those brass beads? And that model is kick ass! Love the tutorial on the robe tabbards. Nice. And I'm totally stealing your Aquilla base idea. Brilliant!

Hehe thanks. And feel free to steal any ideas you see.

the beads I got on ebay from here. Definitely one of the better purchases I can say I have ever got.

Thanks for looking.
