chaplain belisarius
I see a lot of flesh tearers armies on here (all of them are beautifully painted by the way...im not jealous! ok maybe a bit...) im just wondering why they are so popular? thanks.. shatter
I've been wondering the same thing. Maybe it's the name? Flesh Tearer just drips off the tongue and fires the imagination in a very visceral way. As I like hyper-elite armies, I'm getting all giggly over VV+seth+corbulo+chappie/+libby(shield) in a LR. bulley
Grittier look - the armor is a bit nicer (imo) w/ the darker red and black shoulder pads. Game / fluff terms they are again a bit grittier and seem tougher than the regular BA's. I can see the appeal certainly. Captain Juan Juarez
I think they are the famous counterpoint to the Blood Angels - whom are considered the "pretty" Sons of Sanguinius, if you will. The Flesh Tearers suffer the Rage/Thirst and have a very assault-orientated style. Also, I think that -in part - the short story titled At Gaius Point (I think that was the correct title anyway) had a part to play was well. NightrawenII
Because the Flesh Tearers are the only BA successor, who has some fluff written about them. The whole Index Astartes in fact. I know, the Lamenters are BA's too, but yellow is hard as hell to paint, not to mention their iconography. Oh, and until the FW's shameless plug, the Lamenters were free of Black Rage/Red Thirst. Looted Monolith
I like/play flesh tears becuse in one bit of fluff i read along time ago, that has till stuck with me. Some thing like the flesh tears reinforcing a gaurd held section of hive city aginst orks probably on armagededon. And when the frenzied Flesh tears ran out of nearby orks, they turned on thier gaurd allies ripping men limb from limb and shreadding men with chain swords. I never liked the full traitor armyies, but the loyalist chapters that walk the line of renagade/excamunicate are awsome, thier morals very grey not black or white. Plus we can finaly play SETH the chapter master of the FT's. Noctus Cornix
I absolutely love the flesh tearers, and plan on making my first squad soon. What I love about flesh tearers is how I see them in my mind. I see them as the brutal no-nonsense psycho paths who couldn't give two rats ass for anything besides killing the enemy. They wont even give a second thought for humans, let alone their very own lives. Kill the enemy... Burn the enemy... Maim the enemy.... (haha joking ;) ) Destroy the enemy.... I also see them as elitists. I don't see them comparing humans as anything more then cattle to feed the fires of the imperium's war machine. Lastly, there's only 400 of them left, meaning they're well rounded. To make up for the short amount of people there are, every marine on hand has to maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to preform specialist roles. So say for example a regular marine can pick up a narthecium and get down to buisness. I know this is common place amongst space marines anyway to know how to be both a tactical, assault, and devestator marine but you won't see this range of skills come into effect with a complete chapter. I personally don't like seth, but only for the fact that he seems to care what others think about the chapter. Also, Honors End, my favorite piece of fluff about the Flesh Tearers, ever. I know this isn't the same view others have on the Flesh Tearers, but its how I see them and god damn they just look bad ass in my eyes. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/216796-why-flesh-tearers/#findComment-2586433 Share on other sites
Plague Angel
They wont even give a second thought for humans, [. . .] I don't see them comparing humans as anything more then cattle to feed the fires of the imperium's war machine. I don't think this is really borne out by the current Codex, as you seem to acknowledge by bringing up Seth, but hey, to each his own. Noctus Cornix
I don't think this is really borne out by the current Codex, as you seem to acknowledge by bringing up Seth, but hey, to each his own. Well yeah, like I said man. Its just my personal view of them. There's no proof behind what I think of them I just saw that possible aspect and thought it suited them. I mean hell if you read Gaius point, my idea of them is the complete opposite of the way AD-B envisions them. He kinda shows them as feeling guilty for the humans they slaughter due to their black rage and are willing to atone for their sins by sacrificing their lives. I just don't agree with it. Im not saying it's wrong or a bad vision of them but I just personally prefer them as cold heartless sons of &*#%$s who actually rather embrace the Black Rage. I mean Seth is pretty cool for the most part. I think his model is alittle too flashy but thats just a minor detail my only thing is I just always saw Seth as one who felt content with the pact of the black rage. It is a gift with only a temporary time of use until it eats you away. Why not just make the best of the time you got? As you said man, too each his own. Noctus Cornix
lmao!!! totally man! I bet you in reality it was written by a Lamenter who didn't want to be remembered as the cousin of the blood frenzied psychopath  You know what, Plague Angel? Thank you. Now I know that when I make my Flesh Tearers, I need to post fluff about my version of the flesh tearers along side it with every model I make. This is utterly hilarious to me. (Sorry, Lamenters fans.) Whitefireinferno
Haha Well as one of the FT players of the Board I thought I should give My opinions. 1. Our home world Cretacia Is a Deathworld that makes Catachan look like a summer camp In which during our free time we go out with out our Power Armour and beat up Giant Dinosaurs for  's and giggles. 2.Heh we Train our Scouts the old fashioned way none of this put them into a casket for a year we give them the hard training. 3. Hell our Army Badge is by far the coolest EVER ...Fact. :wallbash: 4. Sure the BA are brutal as far as other Marines go But WE have had Flocks of Orkz Run scared at the sight of dark red power armour with black shoulders But yeah we take Brutality to the Next level Just like on Armageddon we cut down Orkz then once we had done so we took the role of the Commisar and dealt with the Guards men for not fighting to their fullest . We also just told the Woman to go back to their kitchen ships and they did not like it and a few "may" have died. 5. We all have to be good at everything since our numbers are getting low so that makes us better Vets than everyone. 6. G. Seth our chapter master Now has Rules sure some do not like them some Do(I do) Sure he does not get a Jump Pack But in saying so I have always seen the FT as more of a Mech/Ground pounding army than a JP army Oh and did I mention He Has a Str 8 chainsword? and the fact he Head butts and the like the enemy when they leave a opening. Oh and yeah a Fricken Str 8!!! Rending Chain sword. 7. Yeah that is about it We are The Overly Brutal Cousins of the BA and that is why our Players Love our Chapter. One last thing I would say to check out one of our Chapter's Member Darkchild130 Short StoryAssault of Ryanthis It is rather good even if it has not been updated in a while. Noctus Cornix
Haha! The next piece of fluff will be how in the Darkest Hour, all hope was lost until suddenly the 'Lamenters, beloved by all' descend from the heavens and some how save the day. "What? The fluff said we didn't go to defend Baal? Well let me just pull out my handy dandy black sharpy and scratch that little mistake out.... and while I'm at it, how about I add in that it was the Lamenters all along who went under cover and joined Huron, only to turn out as the heroes of the story and personally beat the traitors and critcally wound Huron... Hehe... I'm so bad ass..." Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/216796-why-flesh-tearers/#findComment-2586500 Share on other sites

arne
Hi there! For me the idea of collecting a FT was born way back in old GW magazine i think it was #250... something... i had grown tired of my Imperial guard and lost interest in my Tyranids. A coupple of months before the BA Codex was released i decided to go for the Flesh Tearers not knowing that they where to be included in the codex... so bonus for me :) I just love the way they are portrayed... not a care in the world it seems, they just want to kill  ...and yes the army badge is the most brutal of them all! Midnightmare
I think my BA are closet FT, as each squad I paint tends to be more blood soaked and covered in battle damage than the last. TheHarrower
I think because they are a more bad @$$ version of the Blood Angels. They aren't pretty. They are just brutal and effective. Plus, I really like the look of their armour. I gotta say, if I was starting my Blood Angels all over again, I would probably go with the Flesh Tearers.
