(Just finished magnetizing 30 RAS squads so now I can run with Backpacks or Jump Packs!) Been going back to my Mech BA and looking around at the lists and such and I usually 99% of the time run a Librarian or two...Does anyone ever run Mephiston in their Mech BA lists? Why and how has it worked for you? I think having him behind all my vehicles hiding would be a great counter assault unit that would really pack a huge punch. Any CC oriented army tries to get close to Meltagun 2d6 range or to charge PF some Preds/Dreds are going to pay dearly. He's small enough to easily hide behind vehicles to where they can't see him at all. Thoughts? That is not to say, however, that a character like Mephiston isn't a cc monster, or that he couldn't be made worth his weight in points. I'm just saying that librarians are more cost effective, and you can have two, using them to compliment each other if you so chose. P.S. where do you get the stuff you use to magnetize? I'm looking into doing that when I can get some jump packs. He's small enough to be fine behind your 2 walls of AV13 vehicles and your Razorbacks. It's super easy to hide him and use him as a counter assault unit all on his own. We all know he can handle it. This is actually the best way to playMeph, In a mech army where he can hide and where the only weapons effective at killing him are already used to shoot at the armor. The idea of mech is to have as many durable tanks on the table, with no real intention of getting out of the tanks unless your de-meched. Meph is often "touted" in mech lists, but this is just because of how strong he is, and how much of a lightning rod he is. He doesnt actually help the list at all. Libby is by far and away the best HQ for a mech list. Shield improves the entire army - 5++ when you desperately need it gives you a 1 in 3 chance to avoid any damage on your tanks (paired w/ AV13 walls where its more than likely a glance you now have great protection) then you have multiple options for the 2nd power. If I run a single Libby (1500 points) I take blood lance - the ability to hit a couple of units and another AV14 killer helps, and AP1 for character killing (like yesterday where I had Logan by himself, I was going to use Lance as a last resort for his final wound). At 1750 I run x2 shield libs as I have now upwards of 10 tanks - so x2 6" radius is great. At this stage I swap to Fear - as really dont intend to get out, but the ability to try and fear deathstars or even the likes of guard/orks off objectives is underrated. Any other HQ is just to pricey or doesnt do anything for you. Even if you were doing an assaulty versions of mech w/ flamerbacks I'd just use a libby as you could give him unleash rage, which imo is better than the reclusiarchs power anyway. 100 points and you have yourself a HQ that MAKES YOUR ARMY BETTER. He is not a close combat monster but his Shield is gold and if you are 'de-meched' or are disembarkingfor some other reason, Unleash Rage can be a potent tool to buff your squads and clean up what is left. Because: 1)You get protectiong and Lascannons and long range weapons can't see him. 2)You can embark him in a Fast Rhino e go to the front, without getting harmed. 3)Shield of Sanguinius from others Libbies(specially Furioso Librarian), grants a good sinergy with him, giving him a regular terminator protection against long range fire. 4)While he is taking care of enemies in CC, alongside Libbies(Dreads), the rest of the Mech usually acts a support. shatter Posted December 14, 2010 Share Posted December 14, 2010 I think it's down to Mephiston, Librarians or Seth and to a lesser extent Tycho. The first two are obvious favorites for what they do to the list or opponent. The last two are still fairly cheap and offer some specific benefits for counter attacking enemy infantry, heavy infantry and vehicles that get too close to the players (esp immobilised and/or scoring) mech units.
