Loki-LaughingDeath
If you have been reading the first installment of my humorous outlook on life and Wargaming you should be caught up, on the other hand if you haven't, well let me explain...naah I had better sum up. I played 3 rounds, First was a loss against an I Guard gun line, second round was against a Space Marine gun line and the third round was against a Eldar Flying Circus! I lost the first two and won the last. Sooooo Saturday was our official LEAGUE NIGHT!! and not surprisingly I didn't win the month ^_^ The winner was a great guy named Mike who won with an Imperial Guard army that was composed of a Leman Russ MBT, a Valkrie and a couple of squads. Gee a tank at 500 Hundred Points. No wonder he won. Evidently no body who he played thought that there would be a tank on the table. There were a couple of new announcements. It was voted that due to some shennanigans involving terrain it would be randomly determined. At the beginning of the game each player deploys a D3+1 pieces of terrain. While not as bad as it seems I think that it's rather balanced! I saw what 2 of the 3 armies that I played against evolved into, and well it isn't as bad as I thought.... I think. The I Guard Army doubled and swapped out 2 maxed Heavy Squads with Auto Cannons for Lascannons, Missle Launchers and Auto Cannons spread more evenly through the squads, as well as hiring an orbital bombardment specialist. So now instead of being outnumbered a mere 4/1 against this army I am going to be outnumbered 5.something to 1.. and it rains Large Strength 9 templates. The Marines added a second tactical unit and fired the Scouts who objected to shooting the enemy on moral grounds, and added a dreadnought. Then matchups were announced and there was the usual moaning and groaning over who got to face off, until I got called and guess what, game one, I drew the Dark Eldar....YES!! I guess that this is going to be a game determined initially by 2 rolls... Who goes first and stealing the initiative!! If I get first set up and turn, that would be nice, however I would like to get second deployment and steal initiative, but that is a long shot. I should be getting this one in soon. There were a couple of league Matches last night! The I Guard Gunline I went up against faced off against a Khornate Army featuring Khârn the Betrayer and suffered a severe case of Chainaxe acne.... And then it was a battle of the Tanks as the Leman Russ BARELY managed to out shoot a Battle Wagon happy ork mob. This one was close and fun to watch! MaveriK
that Imperial Guard tank just made my Wolf Scouts very hungry wanting to blow it up! and I'm not even playing! LOL Orbital Bombardment huh? well, I'd put everything on reserve on the first turn haha. Dark Eldar? I'd sit back and let him come to you, be smart about it. I realize your play style is go forward and attack, but I'd hold the line and rain bolter fire on the dark kin! I know you love Njal and I really do think his powers can do great against the Dark Eldar. OnlyInDeath
Hell, living lighting should take down a transport a turn against DE. Use that wisely to strip him of his ranged support, then watch the bolters do a wonderful job against his troops Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217042-you-read-before-playing-month-2/#findComment-2588206 Share on other sites
Loki-LaughingDeath
Yeah I am pretty stoked about getting DE outta the gate! Oh yeah my final army looks like this Njal Stormcaller Hiemdal Grim Eyes Wolf Priest with Melta Bombs 8 Blood Claws with a Flamer in a Rhino with Extra Armor 8 Grey Hunters with a Melta Gun and Power Fist in a Rhino with Extra Armor 5 Long Fangs with 3 Missile Launchers and a Lascannon for a grand total of 840 Points!! There is a reason why I am stoked about the DE and why I say that deployment and who goes first will be huge! Loki-LaughingDeath
Okay I am going to say this straight outta the gate. I lost by 1 kill point and 4 freaking Dark Eldar and it was the best game of my life!! These were the armies Mine: Njal the Stormcaller 8 Grey Hunters with Power Fist in a Rhino with Extra Armor Hiemdal Grim Eyes with a Wolf Tooth Necklace 8 Blood Claws in a Rhino with Extra Armor 5 Long Fangs with 3 Missile Launchers and a Lascannon His Archon with a Husk Blade and Night Shield and some other things that really never came into play With 9 Wyches with all their toys in a Raider with Ether Sails Night Shield and Flicker Field 10 Kabalite warriors in a Raider with all the above and Splinter Racks. 6 Ravagers with a Champion with a Agonizer and a Blaster We ended up setting out 7 pieces of terrain, and I ended up winning the roll for deployment after 4 tied rolls! If I believed in omens I shoulda read the signs. The mission was annihilation and we had the 12 inch deployment zone on our halves of the board. I went for the side that provided me with a decent lines of fire and went for a concentrated left flank to make him come to me with the only models on the board being the Fangs and Rhinos, Grey Hunters on the Left and Blood Claws in the middle behind a wall. He decides to hide the Kabal Raider on my left and place the Ravagers and Wych HQ Raider on my Right hidden behind some ruins.... and then he rolls a 6 to steal initiative.... not what I wanted. Turn 1 Top: He decided to be cautious and Moves the Kabal Raider up on my left flank to hide behind some more ruins and then flew the jetbikes to a wall on the mid left flank. Then the Wych Raider moved behind a hill to start an end run. The Wych Raider took a potshot with the Dark Lance at my Blood Claw Rhino but missed. The Kabal Raider shot and immobilized my Grey Hunter Rhino. Bottom: Hmm okay I am starting to see the start of a plan... So I decide to have the Blood Claw Driver HIT THE GAS and gun it forward taking a couple pot shots at the Ravagers which did DIDLEY!! The Grey Hunters bailed out while the gunner banged away with a wrench to no effect. Njal moved amidst his body guard and used Tempest Wrath to make things difficult during his movement but then lost concentration while casting Living Lightning(rolled an 11 :D ) The Long Fangs stepped up and opened up on the Ravagers. The Lascannon and 2 Krak Missiles connected and reduced the Ravager squad to half!! Turn 2 Top: Eric really wasn't expecting that, soo he decides to go ahead and maneuvers around. The Kabalite Raider uses the Sails and gets the hell outta dodge moving a massive 27 inches! The Wych Raider comes around a shoots the BC Rhino in the back but doesn't do any damage, just can't shoot.... The Ravagers buzz the Long Fangs, but can't get through the power armor. Bottom: The Raiders are in the OPEN!!!!! I kinda lost focus for a second drooling over a target rich environment. I took a deep breath and went to work. The Blood Claws bail out of their rhino, the Kabalite raider is close enogh to charge! I move them up 6 inches, the Grey Hunters move up along with Njal and the Long Fangs sight in. The Blood Claws open fire for a change... but the 2 Glances are saved by flicker fields and massive movement saves, then charge, but fail to do any damage. The Long Fangs split their fire between the Raiders, the Kabalite Raider loses it's Dark Lance and the Wych Raider can't shoot..stupid dice!! Njal Steps in with the Living Lightning and gets 1 hit and rolls a 2 for penetration then casts Tempest Wrath. The gunner can not figure out which end of the wrench works....this doesn't look good. Turn 3 Top: This gets interesting as the Ravagers move up except for Blaster Boy who failed his Difficult terrain test Twice!! Their shooting was not effective. The Kabalite Raider moves up and opens fire ALOT...which surprisingly didn't do anything. There were lots of hits, but marine toughness and powered armor saved the day, until the Archon and Wych company charge into the fray. The Archon Singles out Himdall for tender loving care, and connects with 6 hits, 2 wound and Hiemdal makes 2 Invulnerable saves... The rest of the Wyches inflict 7 casualties in CC 2 by the sybarite with the Agonizer and the rest in overwhelming numbers. My Turn... Hiemdal and the Blood Claw failed their Counter Attack check and only get 4 attacks but they all hit and wound and the Archon (no surprises here) makes his save as does one of the wyches. I fail my command check and get 7 more wounds inflicted which finally finish off the BC squad. And then it's me..... Bottom: The Grey Hunters move up and spread out. The BC empty rhino opens up on the wyches and hits 2 but the rounds were paintballs and don't wound. The GH Rhino gunner makes contact with the orbiting strike cruiser for directions...... and the Long Fangs decide to focus on the Wych Raider and blow it to pieces. Njal focuses and immobilizes the Kabalite Raider with 5 hits from Living Lightning.... Turn 4: Eric's Archon and Wyches run like hell is coming at them because....well it is. Running up to within rapid fire range, he was counting on my dice not to let him down. The Warriors disembark from their immobilized Raider and move up into some ruins shooting a splinter cannon at the Grey Hunters but all the Hunters hunker down in their armor and let the splinters bounce. The Ravagers charge into the Long Fangs who fail their counter attack check and the Fangs loose one as well as the Ravagers being reduced to 1 member. Bottom: Okay one of my key units is entangled in cc and I am looking at getting charged again next turn unless... Grey Hunter Rhino is still on the phone, BC rhino shoots 2 of the wyches reducing the squad to 6. The Greys open up and take out another 3 wyches... Njal's Tempest effect causes a Morale check which they all make (Cr*p) and Njal passes his psyker checks and gets 1 hit which of course fails to wound.... The Long Fangs loose a Lascannon and Missile Launcher, and pass the check. Turn 5 Top: and the Archon charges.....every attack hits...and the highest dice roll was a 4! All hits were directed at Njal, who doesn't have an invulnerable save. The Wyches do the same thing lots and lots of hits, very few wounds, and those are saved. Now for the counter attack, oh BTW, my Hunters are getting an extra attack! The extra Wyches die horribly and the Archon flees.... even though I outran him. I don't get the new series of dice rolls for a lost combat....but hey. The Fangs and Ravager sit there looking menacingly at each other with out doing anything! Bottom: Wait...Njal SURVIVED!?! HE SURVIVED!!!!!!! and the archon is sitting there screaming shoot me!! I guess that I will oblige! The Iron Priests finally find the right page and hey the Rhino is fixed!! Njall does his thing and the archon saves 5 wounds.... but doesn't manage to save 14 bolter shots and finally takes one ONE STINKING WOUND!! But he survived. The Ravager takes out another Fang leaving me with my last missile launcher who FINALLY bashes the Champ over the head killing him. The dice says keep going. Turn 6 Top: RETURN OF THE ARCHON!! Charges Njal again and inflicts 2 wounds. However the Hunters Counter Attacked and PASTED the pointy eared drug user! They consolidated 6 inches and got ready to bring the pain on the Kabalites... The Kabalites fired the Splinter Cannon at the Missile Launcher trying to wipe out the Fangs, unsuccessfully. Bottom: Okay the Hunters moved up to try to get a charge off, but their Rhino is busy laying down supressing fire along with the other rhino and they manage to reduce the Kabalites down to 7 from 8. The last lonely fang opens fire and his template hits 5 of the Warriors, all of which wound but cover saves are a pain as they manage to duck all the shrapnel. THE DICE GODS ARE PLEASED AND SAY GO ON!!! Turn 7 Top: The Kabalites are really concerned by the Fang and the Splinter Cannon opens up but doesn't manage to penetrate the grizzled veteran's armor. Bottom: Okay there are only 7 things standing between me and a win, seven warriors and what looks to be a foot of separation. Okay first off the Hunters move up to TAKE THEM OUT! That's when it hits me, I am outta range to charge.... The BC Rhino which has steadily been advancing doesn't have the movement to make a tank shock and neither does the Hunters Rhino... I gotta do this with shooting which has been really unreliable over the past several turns. The Rhinos move up and fire 4 shots 3 hits, 2 wounds 2 saves. ***** Well that's four shots down.... Long Fang opens fire and Deviates 7 inches.... oh that hurts.... Hunters open up the entire can of whup a$$ with 7 hits... 6 of which wound.... he made 3 saves. I mutter a quick prayer and....... roll a 3....... game ends. Both of us are not happy so unofficially finish it where i lost 2 Hunters to his rapid firing, but in my half the Charge cost me another Hunter, to the Sybarite with Agonizer, but my 4 boys stomp them in the charge, he lost 1 to bolt pistols, 2 to the regular hunters and the Last one ate Power Fist. Best Game of the League so far. Talked with the organizer and Christmas came early for me, I got the Ork Waaagh!! I am outnumbered a paltry 3 to one in Infantry, my rhinos and Long Fangs are facing down a Battle Wagon and 2 Trukks, but I want this fight like you won't believe!!! I want it almost as bad as I want the Khorne Army! Loki-LaughingDeath
Oh you have no idea, we were up front so the store owner could watch and he was getting into it big time......rooting for the Dark Eldar. When the Archon failed to wound there WAS supposed to be a WOW TCG demo going on but they were all watching too, and there were about twenty guys all either cheering wildly that the Archon nerfed or the groaning in despair that there were no wounds. The demo got forgotten as the game went on and at the end there were guys attempting to place bets on how things were going to end. Yes I was excited yes I am still stoked over how it went. The next guy is another army that I have been wanting a piece of so this is gonna get good quick!! I am really looking forward to breaking out some of the other Psychic powers just to see how they work! Okay I am going to say it right here right now NJAL IS THE MAN!! I want to say something else but I like being able to use these forums!! In all of my games he performs well and he destroys ridiculous amounts of stuff. Granted there are times where the dice won't co-operate with me but hey that is the way they have rolled all my life. I will NOT swap him out for a lesser priest this league, maybe another time but not here not now! Funny enough is that I get another 20 points and I really don't want them. Loki-LaughingDeath
Actually it's just under half the points for a Razorback for the Fangs for some extra firepower!! :) Now if I sell some plasma over the next couple of months and manage to unload some of the stuff that I no longer love or play..... Sorry I am scheming for the END!! I have been scoffed at by the idea of a Land Raider Crusader filled to the gills with Blood Claws and a Wolf Priest to lead them so I am planning on correcting the misconception that the LRC sqaud is indeed a "BAD IDEA" let's see fifteen multiplied by four equals SIXTY!!! with rerolls equals lots and LOTS AND LOTS of pain!! Yep there will be a power fist in there, the only thing that I haven't decided on is whether or not they will get assigned a Wolf Guard Pack Leader. It's either that or a Wolf Lord with Body guard and as many assault cannons as I can have. Aaaaahhhhhh decisions, decisions, decisions, they are such a pain! Chapter Master Ignis Domus
Go with the BC of doom. You still hit and wound MEQ on a 4+, you have 60 attacks plus the Wolf priest, all of which reroll hits and wounds, they're fearless and can afford to take fearless wounds, and they still have a LRC. Loki-LaughingDeath
Last night I got in my round 2 game against one of the store co owners and his ork Waaagh!! It has been a while since I faced off against the green tide and due to some really bad miscalculations I lost..... but I had Brad more than a little worried. Being able to swap around some war gear almost helped because this is what I went with: Njal 8 Grey Hunters with Melta Gun and Power Fist in a Rhino Hiemdal Grim Eyes with a Wolftooth Necklace 8 Blood Claws with a Flamer and Power Fist in a Rhino 5 Long Fangs with 3 Missile Launchers and a Lascannon Brads Army was this Big Mek with Force Field Battle Wagon with Death Roller carrying 17 Boys and a Nob Battle Wagon with Death Roller carrying 18 Boys and a Nob War Trukk with 12 Boys Big Mek with Shock Attack Gun and 12 Boys With minimum rolls for terrain the board was pretty barren, there were some ruins on the right a wall on the left and a couple rock outcroppings in the middle. The mission was Spearhead and there were 5 objectives, 3 ork and 2 Wolves. The Ork objectives were placed on his left and Right flank and one just above his deployment zone. My two were up in the middle. I won the roll off for deployment and placed the Fangs and Claws on the left between the two outcroppings and the Hunters on the right to sieze the Ork objective. His deployment started on my left with the Wartrukk the Shock Attack gun hugging the back edge, and then the two battle wagons. And then we started. Turn 1 Top: So my movement was pretty simple I moved up both the Rhinos, then it was on to shooting. The Fangs split their fire between the 2 Battle Wagons, the one Carrying the Mek made 2 saves as did the Wartrukk. The Right Battle Wagon was rendered immobile. The rhino's stormbolter fire was very effective, til the orks made all their saves. Bottom. The Orks in the immobilized Battle Wagon Bailed out and ran up. The Battle Wagon moved up as did the WarTrukk. The Big Mek opened fire with the Shock attack gun at the Fangs, and typically scattered into the middle of nowhere. The Wartruk and Battle Wagon fired their big shootas to no effect and that was that! Turn 2 Top: I am looking at the situation and thinking this might be tougher than I thought. So I have the Blood Claws bail out of their Rhino and move up closer to my first objective. Then I moved up the Grey Hunter Rhino. Then the Blood Claw rhino moved up. And it's shooting time! The Long Fangs split their fire between the Battle Wagon and the big mob of boys, but once again the Mek with the field earned his points making the cover saves, and the 2 Frag missiles fired wide. Njal hit the Wartrukk, but he was in the protective field and made it's saves too. The Blood claws tried to shoot it and got 3 hits but 2 of them were saved and the 3rd didn't glance. Here comes the Pain. Bottom: So Brad has the Boys in the mobile Battle Wagon bail out, then the Wagon rams the Claws Rhino and destroys it. Then the Trukk moves up and drops off those boys in front of the Fangs. The Boys who had their Wagon shot out from under them run up to the Hunters rhino. The shooting phase was rather dramatic as the Trukk managed to drop one of the Fangs and the Mek with the Shock Attack Gun and 18 strong boy mob manage to take out half my Claws. Then it's on to the assault phase, the trukk boys charge into the Fangs. The Fangs counter attacked and managed to take out 2of the orks before they get wiped out. The big foot mob mangages to charge the Hunters Rhino and immobilize it and take out the stormbolter..... Turn 3 Top: Okay I am down to 3 Claws and Hiemdall, the Hunters Rhino is immobilized and weaponless. The Hunters bail out and fire their Bolt Pistols, the Claws move up and open fire with their pistols doing absolutely NOTHING!! The Hunters Charged in and inflict some ridiculous amount of damage, the Boys run and get run down! The Claws charge in and after wiping out 5 orks get taken out. And it's crunchy time! Bottom: Death Rollers are a pain....the Battle Wagon tank shocks my unit but to no real effect. Strength 10 hits are NASTY!! but not when they allow an armor save. The arty mek separates from his boys and the boys run up to join the fray. In the Mean time the other big unit of boys that took out the claws join the party and set up to charge the hunters and Njal. The Trukk Boys run over but are slowed down by the Claws rhino. The Trukk ran an end loop around the outcropping. The Killer Mob moved up and shot at the hunters but didn't mange to do much. Turn 4 Top: The Hunters move up to attempt to assault the killer mob and wipe them out then consolidate back away from the 2 units. Bottom. The Arty mek tries to fire but manages to miss and the Death Wagons kills off a second hunter. Then the 2 other smaller units maneuver to set up for a charge next turn. Turn 5 Top: With only 6 Hunters and Njal to work with I am getting down to bare bones but so is he. So I decide it's time to try to even the odds a little better and Rapid Fire at the foot boys.... wounding 2. Bottom: The Trukk Boys charge in and get wiped out taking out 4 hunters ( my dice were tired at that point and not making many armor saves) then the 10 foot boys charge in and get taken down to 4 before wiping out the last of my army. So to sum up I lost to the orks because of bad placement of a key unit, the Fangs and bad timing on bringing out the Claws. On the other Hand Njal and the Hunters ate most of his infantry. Brad was really shocked at how potent they are on the counter attack, but those are the wolves for you! Some key points in the game were the absurd number of 5+ invulnerable saves he made to save his vehicles, which really saved him, and just the amount of dice he was rolling on the charges. I think that I won't be doing the math for him in the future. The good news is that he is planning on doubling the amount of stuff he has for his next build and decided to give me a job assembling and painting his next 40 boys, 4 Nobs and a Battle Wagon..... by January 8th. This is gonna be fun! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217042-you-read-before-playing-month-2/#findComment-2598078 Share on other sites

Loki-LaughingDeath
Match # 3 of Round 2!! And in the opposing corner is Taylor and his World Breaker Marines!! While he says it's a custom chapter it's using Vanilla rules so they are smurfs with sunburns! One of these years I will snag the store's camera for some pictures.... anyway on to what you are here for..... lots and lots of VIOLENCE!! Me I went with what is rapidly becoming my standard list.... Njal Hiemdal Grim Eyes 8 Blood Claws with a Power Fist and Flamer in a Rhino 8 Grey Hunters with a Power Fist and Melta Gun in a Rhino 5 Long Fangs with 1 LasCannon and 3 Missile Launchers His list was kinda nasty.... something I have very rarely faced off against Captain with Relic Blade and Iron Halo leading Full Tactical Squad with combi melta and melta gun in a Drop Pod 10 man Tactical Squad with Multi Melta and Melta gun in a Rhino... the Sgt has a Power Fist 10 man Tactical Squad with Missile Launcher and Plasma Gun in a Rhino... the Sgt has a Fist as well. There were 7 Pieces of terrain laid out which broke up the lines of fire pretty decently but didn't really hamper the mobility of our Rhinos. The Mission was Capture and Control deployment was the 12" from the middle and we choose to place our objectives relatively close to our deployment zones on opposite sides of the table. He won the roll off to go first and placed his 2 Rhinos just behind his objective on my left flank. I decided to place the Grey Hunters in their Rhino with Njal in the middle of the board and the Claws in their Rhino with Hiemdal on the right flank by my objective. Didn't roll that 6 to steal.....maybe I might break out Bjorn........ Turn 1 Top: Taylors Rhinos move up and park on his objective and the drop pod lands a couple of inches in front of my Fangs deploying the suicide squad. The Missile Launcher attempts to fire but can't find the range. The suicide squad and pod open fire and my fangs are no more.... Knew I shoulda planted them someplace else.... Bottom: Okay I am annoyed. The Claws Pile out of their Rhino, which moves up my right flank, and advance on the soon to be deceased drop squad. The Hunters Rhino moves up 6 inches and fires at the dropped squad along with the Claws rhino but does nothing. Njal uses living lightning and stuns and shakes the Missile Rhino. My favorite was the Claws charge in, and the Captian steps up heroically and takes out a claw and inflicts a wound on Hiemdal only to have the Claws and Hiemdal inflict 7 casualties and run down the squad for 1 more loss. They consolidated into the Pod to reduce it to scrap. Turns 2-4 are all rather boring.... moving Rhinos, deploying marines, moving Rhinos, boarding marines no killing no violence.... despite playing the game a couple of hours ago they all just blurred, so lets skip to the good parts. Turn 5 Top: Taylor's Rhinos are not functioning properly, 1 is a wreck marker, the other is a junk heap that has no weapons or drive train. Melta Squad takes a shot at the Hunter's Rhino which is about 18inches away but misses. The Missile Launcher and Plasma Guns also take shots but the Plasma gun over heats, and the missile didn't arm and bounced off the armor. Bottom: I roll very well for the Storm effect getting Tempest. This is how things look to my perspective. The Claws and Hunters are buttoned up in their Rhinos. The Claws have entered the enemy's deployment zone on my right flank and head in hard to about half way on the long edge of the table. One more turn and I am in charge range. Njal and the Hunters are slightly to the right of the center of the table. I advance up the Hunters Rhino and Living Lightning the Tactical Marines, but when it comes to making saves Vs. Shooting Taylor failed 3 during the game. CC saves were an entirely different matter. As I finish off wounding 5 out of 6 Tempest hits the realization hits me...........I did NOTHING WITH THE CLAWS!!! When I pointed that out Taylor just chuckled really Nasty and said I know. Turn 6 Top: This is what saved my bacon. Taylor decided that the Claws were a bigger threat and fired all his Heavy weapons at the Claws Rhino.... and missed. Me.... I would have shot the snot out of my Hunter unit but hey that is just me!! Bottom: The Claws Rhino advanced 12 inches and my Claws made an emergency exit. The Hunters advanced and in true form bolt pistols do nothing against his save capability. Then the Hunters charged in. Nightwing didn't contribute to the fray, but Njal accounted for 5 marines out of his 6 attacks on the charge, then the Regulars accounted for another 2 and the fist took down one more. The World Breakers broke only to be ran down. BLOOD PLEASED THE DICE GODS AND THE GAME CONTINUED TO TURN 7!! Turn 7 Top: Taylor is looking at a loss, after looking at a victory at the end of his turn one. He moved his last tactical squad around the wrecked rhino and opened fire on my hunters who were solidly camped on his objective. His shooting was really anemic as he didn't wound anything. Bottom: I am faced with the decision that I hate to make because the inner dialogue goes something like this: Brain: You hold his objective, if you remain there he cannot take it from you and you win the game it ends after this turn. YOU WIN!! WOLF: THAT IS A COWARD'S WAY!! YES YOU WILL WIN, BUT NOT WITH GLORY!! TO CRUSH HIS ARMY WOULD BE GLORIOUS!! Brain: There is that possibility, but consider the odds and the way your dice have been rolling today, the last combat was a fluke... you know this, take the win! WOLF: THERE IS NAUGHT BUT GLORY!! TO LIVE ANY OTHER WAY IS TO BE A COWARD!! Decision  it!! THERE CAN ONLY BE GLORY!! I moved up, opened fire which he saved, and then CHARGED... which ended up with us both inflicting only 2 wounds, one of which took out Njal, and having the combat and the game end in a draw.....At the beginning of that charge, I remember thinking I really wish I had Ragnar which is what cursed me, because Njal is no slouch either. A draw, my thinking and dice left me with a stinking Draw and my inner wolf is cursing my name saying I need to re read Beowulf and the Sagas of Odin and the Norse Gods. Great game, lousy ending. Still stoked because next big thing is gonna be my Crusader!! I am planning on bringing in that Bad Boy at 1400 to bring on some PAIN!! Wysten
Lousy only because you are forgetting the mission. The mission was not to kill everything, but to capture the objectives and hold them. Learn from this and better yourself as a commander and remind yourself that while glory of completely wiping them out is all good and well, is it worth giving up the game for? Sometimes it's amusing, but ultimately losing for moving away from a single objective is not worth any cost. Remember your sense of duty to the imperium, there is a reason why the space wolves are not a minon of chaos. :P Otherwise, I would say add more long fangs, rhinos and boys before toys, but already tried that. nurglez
yes, it is always good to remember the mission objectives, as this is how you win, one of my regular opponents always moans that I win only because of the objectives and that he had more guys surviving the game, my response is that's what the mission objective was, so that's what I aimed to do... still, best way of learning is to make mistakes and learn from them, so hopefully you will now remember the mission :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217042-you-read-before-playing-month-2/#findComment-2608536 Share on other sites
Ladislao
Decision :D it!! Your are still a blood claw mate, you should learn the patience of the wolf, who will not rush at the enemy but entrap him Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217042-you-read-before-playing-month-2/#findComment-2608566 Share on other sites
Loki-LaughingDeath
When I was looking at his last squad on turn 7 this was the predominating thought going through my head. You have the win right here right now, just piddle around and you have the win, or you can go for the wipe out and have the Victory with Style...... I of course wanted to wrack up style points. This tends to happen alot, playing Devourers in Confrontation, I tended to ignore objectives or mission assignments and would usually end up wiping out most of the other army leaving only a few survivors while my Devs tended to be mostly intact, and would loose because my opponent would be sitting on an objective or would have achieved his mission. When it came to Assassination missions, no body wanted to play me. Take and hold or capture something, I was a blast to play, and usually a tough win. There were a couple of key mistakes that really made things difficult for me first off I had left the Blood Claws babysitting my objective for a couple of turns turn 2 through 4 I think. Taylor was content with that because then it would have resulted in a draw. There is one thing I don't care for with the Marines. They favor a very static play style, and that really irks me. While I can see it's uses(do NOT want to assault a Genestealer swarm) I don't like to play that way. Second Huge mistake was forgetting the Blood Claws on Turn 6. They were going to be the other half of the ambush that didn't materialize.... Not so happy about that. Third Deployment. I knew what was coming...... big nasty suicide squad in a drop pod. Still I stuck my Fangs right where they would get wiped out. That really annoys me, because instead of wasting time on trying to crack Taylor's Rhinos with Living Lightning, I could have been focusing all that firepower on them from the beginning. I do listen to advice, I just have this really crazy way of interpreting it. This is the list I would like to run for the Last Round when we are at 2100 Points Njal Hiemdall Wolf Priest Vioaar Wolf Lord Wolf Guard Pack of 10 Iron Priest Wolf Scoutsx5 15 Blood Claws in Land Raider Crusader 9 Grey Hunters with Njal in Rhino 9 Grey Hunters in Rhino Land Speeder Typhoon Long Fang Pack x5 in Razorback Long Fang Pack x5 in Razorback There is a plan and it's Crazy but I see it in my head and how it works is beautiful.
