Help with my World Eaters

Ok, so i have been inspired to make a pre-heresy world eaters army. Now I sit and plan my purchases and such. One thing has popped into my mind. Which of the marine chapters rule sets would best fit the world eaters prior to the heresy?

Also, im having problems with deciding on the armor. From what ive found most illustrations show the studded armor and shoulders, but that didnt come until mk5 heresy armor, which began being produced during the heresy. So would i be safe to go with my plan and use the mkII crusade armor?

Any ideas for converting the current rhino to pre-heresy looks?

As for the armor I personally think that either mk2 or mk4 would fit in pretty well. They were the most common and widespread armor types during the heresy, and some Legions were equipping mk2 till the heresy, though mk4 was already released.

As for the ruleset choice, I'd recommend Blood Angles. They are 'tailored' to close combat, and it was said that both BA and WE competed during the Great Crusade as they were similar in terms of warfare. The current BA Dex allows you to run assault squads as troops (which reminds of WE), has Red Thirst special rule (which can be used to 'show' WE's bloodlust). Just do not use all of BA-specific goodies like Descent of Angles Rule or Baal Predators and use mostly footslogging units, and your army would represent WE almost perfectly.

Oh you may use Death Company to show WE's most furious and berserking warriors -_-

Awesome. Shame is i dont know of any good mkII or mk IV assault arms. Im sure they did have some normal bolter carring footsloggers. And the blood angels rules do make lots of sense.

Ok so here is my current ideas. More help would be appreciated.

Marines (tactical and assault) made from verious gw models using MKII-MKIV armor. Corvus pattern bolters and such. Also a mix of the forge world bitz in there two. Probably will use the current gw WE shoulder pads, and just do away with the chaos bitz.

Terminators will recieve some heavy greenstuff/plasticard modifications to get them looking right.

I have two unassembled rhinos that i need to convert. Perhaps i should just trade them for some bitz for my footsloggers.

I do mine with mk 3 armour, hence the WE love the imposing look of that gear, and some Mk 4. For the rules, I use the CSM codex, not that shiny, but with real zerkers and allow to you to take pre heresy weapons. In fact, if we need to look some loyalist codex to use for count as WE, the BT ones is far more acurate than the BA:

Furious Charge terminators? Check.

Awesome Lieutenant in the form of Emperor's Camp? Check.

Preferred enemy? Check.

Better smoke launchers? Check.

If shooted, moves 1D6" extra towards your enemy? Check.

Terminator honors? Check.

BA is not accurate for WE because you need to drop ALL vehicles (but drop pods and landspeeders and the basic LR), Librarian Dreads, Sanguinary Guard, Sanguinor, Sternguard/Vanguard...

For model wise buy a bunch of berzerker kits the "ears" can be cut off easy enough. As for rules I use the chaos codex, true bezerkers plus even the normal chaos marine has 2 attacks when charged. Also it seems like im forgetting some thin...Khârn nothing screams Eaters of worlds like Khârn. I have heard of people using the BA codex and are really happy with it. Seth is a great counts as Khârn plus they have the assault squads as troops.

Have you considered Codex: Space Wolves? While C:CSM is the perfect choice for Heresy-era WE and later, Codex: Space Wolves is in my opinion a better choice Pre-Heresy. The Space Wolves Blood Claws are similar to pre-heresy scouts, the grey hunters wargear load out is similar to csm squads with cheaper special weapons, and more variety. Mark of the Wolfen can represent the extreme aggression caused by the psycho-implants many of the WE underwent.

While the Blood Angels are in their current incarnation pretty brutal, the nature of the blood angels assault troops doesn't really represent the world eaters well due to the fact that jump packs were uncommon. Yes you could take them without Jump Packs, but why do this when you can get the bolter for free and the special weapon options that the space wolf codex allows?

While the SW codex is not a bad match, in fact they are pretty comparable, the CSM book synchs up Pre-Heresy a bit better, primarily due to weaponry.

While using the SW codex one would have to omit: Thunder hammer storm shields, Assault Cannons, Razorbacks, Wolf Cav, etc.

Admittedly one would avoid many of the "Chaosy" aspects in the CSM book, but those aren't a "thing" one is looking for in this list.

The troops are largely comparable, although im not sure about Blood Claws being scouts.

Psykers in both books are woefully out of place.

While Mark of Wulfen is not bad, the marks/icnons of Khorne are more widespread and applicable.

The Khorne Daemon weapon could represent some really, really, nasty implants, with the botch roll being him having an aneurysm of some kind.
