Lord Frost
I dont' think I'm understanding things correctly, as I know it when you give a model a bolt pistol and a power fist you get an extra attack for two close combat weapons, where if you have a combi bolter/melta on your wolf guard and a power fist they don't get the extra attack so will only have 2 base instead of 3. am I not understanding the rules properly, becuase if this is correct than I think i would rather have the 3 base attacks then a one time chance to fire a melta gun. any thoughts or corrections to my understanding would be apreciated. Hfran Morkai
Power Fists, Thunder Hammers and Lightning (Wolf) Claws need to be paired with an identical weapon for the additional attack bonus, so a Power Fist and Combi-Melta is a good value combo (Two Power Fists is a lot of points) and the additional D6 penetration at six inches isn't ha;f bad, potentially allowing you to assault the contents of the vehicle. Lord Frost
Thanks But that raises another question, the bolt gun is not an assualt weapon but the Melta is, so when you fire the melta option it is considerd assault so you can then charge the contents of a transport? Hfran Morkai
Yep, when firing the Melta portion of the Combi-Weapon you use it's entire profile, meaning it is literally a one shot Meltagun, assault profile and all. Ranwulf
Thanks But that raises another question, the bolt gun is not an assualt weapon but the Melta is, so when you fire the melta option it is considerd assault so you can then charge the contents of a transport? Just to quote the Space Wolves codex: "A Space Marine armed with a combi-weapon can choose to fire either the bolter, or the secondary weapon, each with the profile listed elsewhere in this section". To sum up, combi weapons uses a bolter profile, but once per game you can choose to use another profile(such as melta) of the weapon, and use like that. Prosedragon
Don't underestimate the psychological effect of a meltagun - some people way overestimate the likelihood of the meltagun doing something. Also, dice like rolling in groups, so the combimelta on a pack leader lets you have two melta shots instead of one in a squad of 10 grey hunters, including the pack leader - this is an issue given the 10 person capacity of rhinos, land raiders, and drop pods. If you just fire 1 meltagun, the dice (singular) gets lonely and emo, and comes up a 1. Roll two or more and the dice (plural) are happy, and perform better. It's science.
