AN evolution the Knights of Antioch

Vi et virtute! –By Strength and Valor!

War cry of the Knights of Antioch

Tears of the Lyon

Origins

The Tears of the Lyon was founded in the 36th millennium as the Knights of Antioch. Founded during the 19th Founding, the Knights traveled to the planet Antioch, a feudal world in the very south-east of Segmentum Tempestus. Unfourtuately, several millennia latter, the chapter lost their homeworld.

In M38, Chapter Master Rikard, the Cour de Lyon received a request for aid from the nearby of Darcar, an Ork warlord named Zagzull was leading a Waaagh in the system. . Almost the entire chapter was deployed to combat the threat of the Waaagh, leaving elements of the 8th and 10th companies. Almost at the completion of the operation, the chapter homeworld was invaded by chaos. By the time the chapter was able to quit the crusade and return to their homeworld, the taint of chaos had perverted a majority of the planet too much. At first, the chapter tried to retake the planet. The 4th and 6th companies were deployed to assess the situation, both were decimated.

After learning of the fate of the planet, Rikard ordered that the chapter to retrieve as many of their artifacts from thier monastery as possible. As 1st company arrived at the monestary, they were astounded to see the survivors of both 8th and 10th company defending an uncorrupted monastery from the army of chaos. With the added firepower of the 1st the Knights were able to drive of the enemy, if for a short while.

Once all of the untainted arteficats and the pure geneseed was retrived from the Monastary, Rikard orderd the withdrawl of the knights from the planet and iniated Exterminatus. As the planet was destroyed, Rikard watched the destruction of the planet, his homeworld, with tears of rage and frustration flowing from his eyes.

After the planet was destroyed, Rikard orderd the chapter be assembled. At the assembly, Rikard was quoted as saying As light follows darkness, Victory shall come after this defeat. We must first exorcise the tears of the chapter before we move on."

Combat Doctrine: The Tears are known for their armored assaults. The best offence is a good defense.

Organization

The Tears of the Lyon loosely follow the Codex Astartes. Scout squads are actively assigned to battle companies. The scouts answer directly to the command chain of the company and therefore prevent infighting between the captains of the battle companies and the captain of the recruits. During the first 1000 years of the chapter’s existence, the Master of Recruits believed that scouts should only answer to him and him alone. His ultimate goal was to lead the tenth company to glory and along the way to gain glory for him. During an ill-fated mission, more than half of 10th company and the master of recruits were killed. After the dust settled the Masters of the Chapter agreed that to prevent a similar situation, Scouts would be assigned to the battle companies and aspirants would be the body of the 10th company.

The Chapter’s tenth company only houses the chapter’s aspirants. Once the aspirants have passed the many tests required, the aspirants are assigned to the battle companies as scouts.

The Chapter master is advised by Council of 6; the Masters of the Forge, Recruits, Hospitaller, and Reclusium, the first captain, and the Chief librarian.

The Knights know the relationship between battlefield tactics and the importance of having the gear of the marines in perfect order and the ability of obtaining the material for war.

- No offence, but this is one mysteries of DIY. [rant]Every third or fourth DIYer change the name of his Chapter in the middle of IA. Why? Why do you change the name? If is the first name so inconvenient for you, why did you included it in the first place?[/rant]

- The 21st Founding was early in M36. I'm not sure, if the 19th was in the M36 too.

During the first 1000 years of the chapter’s existence, the Master of Recruits believed that scouts should only answer to him and him alone. His ultimate goal was to lead the tenth company to glory and along the way to gain glory for him.

- And none noticed this? Odd, very odd. ;)

- You are robbing your Chapter of 80 Battle-Brothers. Thats nearly entire company.

- You forgot Techmarine and Dreadnought. B)

I was going off what was on the Lexicanium, is there a more accurate list out there of foundings?

To my understanding the first companies of most chapters are the most, hate to say it, famous. the Master of recruits wanted overthrow (wrong choice of word) the 1st company from the top spot.

Well many things I saw have already been addressed so I want beat a dead horse. However, you are not off the hook :D . The one thing that sticks at me the most is the complete and total bad luck your chapter seems to have. I mean a WAAAGH! and a Chaos Invasion at the same time. I feel that you should pick one or the other but not both and I would advise that if you go with the WAAAGH! you are really gonna need to set yourself apart from the Crimson Fist as we have a corner market on bad luck with orks. I think if you wanna use the Chaos Invasion that would allow you to create a nice back drop as it's always cool to hate chaos ;) .

The date on the lexicanum is not wrong or right, it's based on the false information. ;)

There is incosistency in the date of 13th Founding, the article about Exorcists places it in the early M36. However, we know that the 21st Founding was prior to the Age of Apostasy, and the Age of Apostasy begins in the early M36...

We have Timeline here in the Liber.

//It's hilarious how many people overlook the stickies atop of forum. :D

Well, what to say? The 1st Company is the elite, the scouts are newbs.

Thanks for the advice, the chapter was taking care of the orks when chaos invited itself to the planet. the threat to the homeworld drew the chapter away from the waaagh! like rumours of the Fallen draw the Dark Angels.

Thanks. Back to the Original Name!!!!

Organization:

The Knights of Antioch loosely follow the Codex Astartes on the roles of its marines. However, in their centuries of service, the chapter's organization has evolved, or degraded depending on your point of view.

The servants of the administratum have received reports on the Knights organization. The Chapter contains 10 fighting companies, there is no veteran or reserve companies per say. The current estimates of the size of each company is around 160-200 marines. Each company is in charge of the recruitment of the chapter as well as the of the company. The fighting companies are totally independent from each other and answer only to Chapter master and his council. Each fighting company contains both the veterans and the initiates of the chapters. The veterans are responsible for the protection of the captain.

The current organization is based upon The Black Templars, with whom the have good relations. The Knights and Templars have served together in many crusades throughout the Imperium.

The Chapter’s tenth company only houses the chapter’s aspirants. Once the aspirants have passed the many tests required, the aspirants are assigned to the battle companies as scouts.

The Chapter master is advised by Council of 5; the Masters of the Forge, Recruits, Hospitaller, Reclusium, and Librarius.

The Knights know the relationship between battlefield tactics and the importance of having the gear of the marines in perfect order and the ability of obtaining the material for war.
