DrMidas
Here's my new captain, he's a mild conversion of the AOBR captain, I've only been back in the hobby for a couple of months, this is the most detailed mini I've done yet, and the first I've used any blending on. http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/2278/frontvtw.jpg http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/4967/backkb.jpg I'm hoping some folks here can tell me what I could have done better, what I'm doing right, and give me some ideas for finishing touches. I'm doing 2nd company, but it's not intended to be Sicarius exactly, just a generic captain/chapter master for the odd no special characters tourney my FLGS throws. Thanks a lot! Phosis
Badab Black wash would add depth to that mini, and some penwork on the scrolls would be fun too Nice job
MattCrawford
I agree with Brother Phosis on using washes, though you may want to consider doing specific colors for specific areas when you wash the model (i.e. Ogryn Flesh for the face, Azurmen Blue for the armor, Gryphonne Sepia for the gold, etc.) In general, try and thin out your layers and give it a few coats. Things like white should be built up from a middle-gray color (Adeptus Battlegrey or Charadon Granite) with increasingly whiter mixes. By the time you're layering on pure Skull White, the mix should be around 1:1 paint and water. Finally, highlights are your friend. There's a free guide on the GW site for faces which I highly recommend. Otherwise, just take slightly lighter colors (thinned out, of course) and place them wherever you think light would fall. Good thing to remember about highlighting: start where the highlight is the weakest, and pull it towards the direction you want the highlight to show up strongest. Peck
Yep, they're solid base coats but at this point washes should be your next step. Though try not to over-rely on them; learning to highlight normally is also an important skill. Keep it up!
DrMidas
Update- visited my FLGS and did some more painting, used the different washes suggested and snagged a .25mm pen for detail work. It's nice for eyes, too. http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/1813/20101216120702.jpg Did some silver highlights on the banner's gold aquilla and the shoulder edging, pretty happy with it. http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/2923/20101216120712.jpg Please don't mind my breakfast in the background there. http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/9749/20101216120647.jpg Thanks for the input, folks. Peck
Better already. A little bit of devlan mud on that loin cloth thing'd go down pretty nicely. Might have to re-highlight it after, though.
