Screening for assaults

Greetings brethren,

I made a mistake on the weekend against a Chaos player and only learnt my mistake on ATT.

You know how you cannot come within 1" on a unit during your Movement phase?

Well I had thought that this rule also applied in the Assault phase, though obviously not against the unit you were assaulting.

I screened my shooty squad with a Pred and a Speeder against a Chaos Lord.

It turns out he could've assaulted the shooty guys....

I think I had more movement with my Speeder, either up to 12" or flat-out'ing, so I am not too bothered about it. Even if we played with no leniency, he'd have taken my Objective without TROOPS and I had his with TROOPS, so I feel the win was still mine. Still, he was rather gutted and this might [or actually might not!!] cheer him up a little :P

The rule DOES NOT apply in the Assault phase.

If you wish to screen a unit with others in front of it, the front unit needs to have gaps in between its models LESS THAN the width of the assaulting model's bases.

Or

make sure the screening unit is MORE THAN the assault range, of the assaulting unit, in front of the unit to be screened.

Just so others are not making my mistake. :)
