Iron Warriors Grand Company

I started Iron Warriors awhile back but never got as far as I had hoped with them. I have recently picked this project back up however and want to expand on it. I am also writing fluff for my Grand Company (which I think will be the 5th for no special reason) to keep me going as well.

My first attempts are shown below.

1 Iron Warriors is actually not in this pic, he was actually my very first IW but there was nothing too special about him. These were the first minis I had ever done based off an existing force(the only other ones I had done were for a DIY Chapter that I lost interest in). Currently, these 6 marines sit on display at my local Comic & Gaming shop where they still need to be finished.

some more recent minis:

I had been looking at either going World Eater or Word Bearer and this marine was in the first steps of a red paint job. However, I think I did good by him with Iron Warrior colors.

My first WH40k vehicle, the awesome Vindicator. I am going to redo the hazard markings as I wasn't happy with my "just eyeball it" method. I need to defile that imperial eagle or I may cover it up with the Chaos Undivided Banner from the CSM box. Other than that I need to learn how to add wear & tear as well as weathering. Also, I find it entertaining that this Vindicator was originally for my Imperial Fists...funny how that works out.

These Iron Warriors are 2 of 10 that I am currently working on. I am happy with the way they came out. I am also happy with my IW Symbol free-hand...though it needs more work to be menacing. The weapons and the base are bare because I am on vacation. If I attach the weapons the minis will not fit in the compact case I brought to store them in and I do not have my basing materials. Those will be done when I return home.

Thanks for the comments!

@Ecritter: Just one of the helms from the IW conversion pack and it is one of my favorites.

I have completed two more Iron Warriors the other day but thanks to my sis' crappy internet in Germany I haven't been able to update.

I am not too happy with the hazard marking on the felloa's right leg. I am going to have to practice that more.

The same marine I was talking about up there^...His helms lower jaw piece on his helm makes me think of ORKS!

And a group shot of the semi-completed marines.

I hope to have another two done before Christmas!

Thanks Captain Mick!

I was not able to get 2 more done by Christmas. I was only able to get 1 completed and then go back and work on their weapons!

Thanks Capt. Mick and tyrannosaurus!

I was suprised myself with how the scorch mark came out but I am pleased it looks good. it was watered down tin bitz over the bolt gun metal. then badab black wash. The hazards aren't that bad. I used to worry about doing them with my first set of IW. With iyanden darksun the yellow color goes easily on black. I prefer it that way because I make mistakes and its easier to fix them over a black surface than a yellow one.

and here is my Aspiring Champion:

Still WIP but I am looking for some critique. Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for the positive comments everyone!

Terminatorinhell: I don't have any devlan mud wash on me for this trip but I think I am going to have to make some with scorched brown an water. I especially need a little bit of it for an Imperial Fist I have sitting around. I am debating whether or not to do the pouches black instead of brown however.

.Torch.: Shhhhhh my friend, SHHHHHHHHHHHH. haha. It is a salvaged Vindicator that was from my Imperial Fist build up that was sitting around primed. I am debating whether to take a knife to the aquila and try to make it look defiled, shave it off, or place the Chaos Undivded banner from the CSM squad box over it.

Once again, thanks everyone for the positive feedback! I hope to have another Iron Warrior complete before the end of the year. I am also running out of minis to paint that I had brought along on my trip, I have three to paint toward my IW squad and a Chaos Marine that I want to give a unique paint job to.

I would love to see your Iron Warriors sometime Freak Fryer!

Got to work on some more Iron Warriors thanks to the very cloudy and rainy weather here in Germany.

To start off, I had a lot of time to ponde some cool ideas for my minis these last few days. Some ideas I had knocking around were for ways to include Specific God Worshipping troops into my IW.

Plague Marines: I think using some IG flamer bits(the fuel tanks definitely). and making them into a Chemical Corps. I could try doing rusty armor and lots of pipes.

Berzerkers: They will be trench-raiding storm troopers. They will have their chainaxes and covered in gore. And if a Khârn count-as kills a few of them during operations...that's just a risk you take when swinging deadly weapons in a trench.

Noise Marines: Essentially they will be IW with soundblasters and all the good loud stuff. Basically, imagine them like psychological warfare troops that play loud music at their enemies...the kind of music that can kill you from violent vibrations.

Rubric Marines will be tough...

anyways, finished up 3 more Iron Warriors:

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010276.jpg

One thing I see here are some hazard marks that need cleaning up.

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010277.jpg

It is easier to see the holstered pistol a bit on this marine. I think I will go back to all the pouches and paint them black and give them a grey highlight. Good idea? I really don't like the brown.

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010278.jpg

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010279.jpg

When I get home I think I will give him a purple top knot.

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010280.jpg

And here they are all together except for their brother back in the US. When I get home I will get some glue and sand on those bases and paint them up. That, with some touch ups, and they could be 100% done(they will be the first minis I have ever FULLY FINISHED as I think I have the ADD).

Thanks for stopping by and C&C always welcomed!

They all look very good together. The bayonettes look very menacing, they add a lot of brutality to the minis. I definetly like your ideas on god worshipping troops, looking forward to that.

Your metallic paints are a bit uneven, is that intentional? Otherwise another thin layer might solve that. Perhaps a wash of some sort to the armour would break up the metal a bit, some Devlan Mud on the lower legs and joints where dirt accumulates and such. When painting gold I like to mix in a little scorched brown, I think it gives it a smoother coverage. Anyway, good job!

These guys are coming along nicely !! I like the extra length you went to have the stripe pattern on the dozer blade ... I know its part of the theme but that is difficult to do on a large scale ... love it !!!

Thanks SoulTang. The dozer will need to be redone. I eyeballed the striping and it didn't come out great. So when I get time I will redo that part and use tape to get better results.

Thanks kapturowski. I always liked bayonettes and thought they would be really good with Iron Warriors. After reading Iron Warrior and some of the side notes, I could imagine an Iron Warrior firing round after round in the trenches, and when he ran dry he would just use his bolter as a club and the bayonette for jabbing.

I do not play the game much as I'd like to and have a minor grasp on how some things work out, but when using a non religious Legion I wanted to be able to use those god-specific troops and keep it fluffy. For example, if I was a Warmsith I would not want a Plague Marine around because I'd be freaking out about disease wrecking my ranks. So I thought about a Chem. Corps within the IW whose sole purpose is to use biological warfare. That's the best thing I can think up for it, just having specialized IW troops on the field.

As for the paint, I kind of wanted it to look a little messed up. I did one awesome Iron Warrior who almost had a mirror sheen to his armor but it didnt look fitting. I would imagine it being pockmarked and a bit messed up. I will also try mixing some Scorched Brown with the gold. Unlike Tin bitz or Boltgun Metal...the gold colors dont go on as well. That tip of your will help me wish some Sanguinary Guard as well!

Thanks Once again and remember: IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT!

Thanks Kassill!

I did more work on this squad(minor details) and based them. I forgot to take pics of them however before I put them up for sale at my local Comics and Games shop. :tu: I will be doing some more work on the Vindicator to get it to a decent completion level before I sell it off too.

Last week I decided to get in touch with the Iron Warrior within. So i dusted off some old fluff and started up my story (in my link if you'd like a look) and had an itch to build something. I have a lot of empty GW boxes, tape, and the internet to look up the Perturabo Storm Tank.

So with the added help of a pencil, ruler, and a LR for reference I went to work.

Here she is so far:

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010397.jpg

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010399.jpg

Barely a little taller, a healthy bit wider, and a tad longer than an LR. With some more work she will be worthy of the name Perturabo...except that it is made of a box. I hope to get some better measurements worked out and find a place that sells plasticard near me!

Well I have recently decided to make a Night Lords kill team with some spare bits. This is the first guy:

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010414.jpg

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010415.jpg

*on the rear of this thigh armor, there is light reflecting off of him that makes a weird 'H' shape with his lightening mark. Sort of happy with the lightening marks but I think I need a better brush a one or two more blue colors.

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010416.jpg

*I am REALLY happy with his Terror Mark! I still need to figure out what colors to paint the helmet on his pointy stick.

So this should be a 5-6 man kill team that I will try to work on between fine tuning my Sons of Malice. If I do make a small Chaos Undivded force the Night Lords will receive more astartes to go alongside any Iron Warriors I build. Basically a half and half force of IW and NL.
