sisters of battle in a chapter

My only question is what purpose would they serve? Why bother going through all the trouble and arguments? Space Marines fight on an entirely different level then even the best of normal humans, male or female. Why waste the time raising, training, feeding, housing, and arming a whole bunch of people that would be worse than the marines? What is their motivation for this? Ecritter's Sons of Pyron explain it partially, but even that I don't really buy into. I just don't understand what purpose Space Marines would have for raising up an army of women to fight alongside them...

If they are filling the role of serfs, fine, but why all women? If they are supposed to be fighting alongside the Space Marines, then that is just silly. Why would Marines waste time developing a sub-par fighting force?

they pretty much exist purely for recruitting marines and defending the home world. not to mention I wasnt really thinking an army of these women more like 2 dozen to secure new aspirants and perform the basics duties of training the new marines.

Now that would be a problem. How can these women teach them things that they don't even know. I mean can a football player teach me to play the piano ... I think not. It takes a marine to teach a marine.
It may be a case of just because they can't, doesn't mean they don't know how. Olympic athletes aren't trained by other olympians, but by highly skilled coaches. Knowing a skill and knowing how to teach a skill are two different things. The world is full of expert practicioners who are terrible tutors and vis versa.

To use your football player example, if you were to ask him how to throw a football there would be a good chance you'd either get an an answer that amounted to him telling you to watch him throw the ball or a look of confusion across his face for a bit as he struggles to remember how his coach taught him how to throw the ball. He knows the skill well, but not at a concious teachable level. If you were to ask the qualified coach he'd probably be able to launch into proper stances, hand positions, movements and follow throughs.

The point is if your chapter has an auxillary ANYTHING it doesnt matter. Auxillary support is wasted space. It may be a fun fact, but keep it to yourself.

How many of the 'Legendary' IA's around here go into details about their chapter serfs and support?

The only reason you mention it is because you want it to be said. It adds nothing to your army, and more specifically the IA you submit. So leave it out, and models some badass SoB models. Then when people ask you, you can explain it.
