IamCaboose
So today my LGS had a team tourny, 1000 pts each player. I had my usual partner but instead of his deathwing he took his salamanders. This was also the first time I used my thunderwolves which have been sitting on a shelf for almost 6 months. My list was Thunderlord - 210 TH/SS, WTT 2 Thunderwolves - 125 1 powerfist 10 grey hunters - 215 2 meltaguns, MotW, Standard, Rhino 10 grey hunters - 220 2 plasmaguns, MotW, Standard, Rhino 2 vindies - 230 His list was Vulkan, 3 Tac squads with MM, meltagun, powerfist, combimelta, with 2 pods and 1 rhino, and a MM attack bike. I don't remember everything turn by turn so I'll just throw out key points I remember from each game. Game 1 was against chaos and vanilla marines in a pitched battled annihilation. These guys really had no strategy which made it kind of difficult to plan our own because we had no clue how they would react. In the end we split their forces by podding in heavy on one side. This drew their demon princes(the only CC threat they had) attention away to save his predator and some scouts. I foolishly charge 5 regular terminators with my thunderwolves and proceeded to roll terribly. I also vindicated my own rhino blowing it up and pinning the guys inside... We still managed to get a massacre as they gave up on turn 4. Key moments: 8 grey hunters charge the demon prince and save our Salamander brothers already locked in combat. 1 deathwind launcher shot kills 3 scouts and the other 7 run off the board. My vindicator makes up for the friendly fire and wipes a full CSM squad off the table with one well placed shot. Game 2 was against some competitive friends of ours who were playing Iyanden heavy eldar and troop heavy IG. It was Dawn of War sieze ground with 5 objectives. A tough game with a lot of arguing lol. The salamanders couldnt get the IG to run from CC (mistaken use of vox casters, his first game with IG since the new dex), the night fighting first turn saved us a lot of shots. My thunder lord died to blade storm but the other two wolves made all their saves...it was not his day! We pulled out a massacre here as well but it came down to last minute objective snags. Key moments: My 2 thunderwolves charge his dire avengers and wraithguard, winning combat by 3. The avengers flee never to return and the wraithguard are mopped up next turn. He has a powerfist sarge last 3 rounds of combat against 2 squads of IG on an objective. No friendly fire from my vindicators yaaaaaay! Game 3 was against 2 guys from out of town playing nids and vanilla marines. Even though we were walking through their units left and right this game somehow came out ridiculously close. Sally drop pod units were key here. Turn 1 he landed next to a devastor squad (the only threat to our armor) and dropped them down to 1 lascannon and the sarge. We managed to kill Doom before it did anything when it landed in between 2 full rhinos, my plasma hunters and his many melta tac squad. The thunderwolves really shined this game, with me once again saving our beleaugered brothers in CC against 20ish hormagaunts. Then they went on to charge a tyranid prime and 3 warriors dropping them all with only 1 wound taken. We won this with a minor victory...we had our objective, theirs contested, and we tied on KPs, but now you're about to find out why! Vindicators strike again...It's turn 5, last one since round time was running out, my thunderwolves are standing around their recent victory over the tyranid prime. The table is all but cleaned off of bugs. All thats left is for my thunderwolves to charge the 6 guys from a tac squad near their objective and we'll get a massacre. Friend says," Hey you should put that vindicator shell on this other tac squad and try to hit the lone devastator lascannon too" Me, "I'd rather put it farther back and let that guy live, we're already up on KPs as it is...but ok" So of course I place the template, and it scatters 11 inches to land right in the middle of my thunderwolves. Poof! 2 free KPs to them and there goes the massacre!!! Fun day overall, we got second due to that last game. If we had a major victory we would have tied for first. I learned a few things though. Vindicators are no ones friend. Thunderwolves are great against nonallpowerfist units. And my thunderlord will be using a frost blade for now on. Tsavong Lah
11 inch scatter? How is that even possible after the reduction from BS? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217444-team-tourny-goes-well-for-wolves/#findComment-2593218 Share on other sites
Wolf Guard Nostromo
11 inch scatter? How is that even possible after the reduction from BS? Yeah, I was wondering that. Is pretty easy to keep TWC out of template scatter distance with their enormous charge range too.... Anyway, nice games by the sound of it. Good showing by the Wolves and Salamanders. IamCaboose
Sorry I was pretty tired when I was typing this up. I rolled 11 and it went 7. And since their bases are huge it covered one and touched the other 2.
