No such thing as enough Templars...

Hey guys. Got the modelling bug again. I've had some Death Company boxes sitting here and some Crusader sprues as well and decided it was about time to intermingle the two kits. Shortly thereafter I decided I needed yet more assault terminators as well. So now the whole thing has grown into a full fledged army expansion I suppose and I thought I'd share it and it's progress with the community. C&C is most definately welcome keeping in mind that I will be masking all Blood Angel related things before they get primed. (At least I hope, I'm sure I'll miss something)

Here's where I'm at so far:

Two crusaders still getting some bits added:

And two more crusaders into the painting stage:

Quick and pointless update type thing, final few crusaders are about to be assembled, and I'll be moving full on into the painting stage.

Here's the new initiates ready to accept any challenge, no matter the odds!

Edit: just realized I left the blood chalices on that bolt pistol, time to quickly file those away.

Question to OP i know that that the Templar upgrade sprue does not come with enough bits to make a full marine it more just an accsessorie pack does the death company box which you've used provide the required bits? Or are you having to buy a tacticla marine box as well?

Also i noticed on the chainsword weilding hand there is clearly the death company cross how were you planning on dealing with this? oh and consider this idea stolen :RTBBB: im just rebooting my own Templars with a fresh 1000 point list.

For the death company cross on the hand I will probably use a little green stuff to cover and smooth out.

In response to the death company box it does have everything needed to make a full marine. Arms, legs, torsos, heads, and backpacks are all there. There is enough parts for 5 standalone marines, but probably enough bits and bobs to spread out over 20 marines if you are just looking to spruce a few models up.

Aye, I did the same "hybrid" build with my Templars when the Death Company box was released. In my opinion, it just makes the models look that much cooler. Minus all the wings and blood chalices, of course.

nothing wrong with chalices and templars, just make 'em look like grails :P

Quick update: painting has begun in earnest! Going to try some things to distinguish these guys a bit. I picture these guys being veterans of numerous crusades so i want them to stand out. Particularly these guys are veterans of Armageddon so they will be receiving white helmets and white weaponry. Not sure how it will turn out but I'm going for it. Also a shiny new land speeder will be added to this expansion as well.

So painting has been painstakingly slow so far. Seems like every time I get out the brushes the wife's spidey sense goes off and suddenly there are more important things to do! All the models have a basecoat so far and most have seen some paint, but not enough to post except for these two:

I'm waffling a bit on the white weapons. I was originally thinking of making the weapons into Armageddon badges themselves, with a red stripe across them on a white field, but now I'm not so sure. Oh well. Expect a big update this weekend as I plan to invest a lot of time this week.

Edit: sorry for the junk photos. Iphone is all I have handy at the time.

Looking good so far. If you are unsure about how to paint your weapons I would suggest painting up an unused weapon with the red stripe and holding it next to a mostly finished model, and see if you like the look of it. Personally I think it sounds like a good idea.

So much for a big update. I've become completely enthralled with trying to wet blend. I have ruined at least a handful of marines trying to wet blend their tabards! Oh well, it's exciting because I have seen some small hints of progress.

Here's my Marshal with some halfway blended lighting claws:

Based on the success I seem to have with reds the idea of white weapons are probably going to get tossed out the window.

Banner painting sucks. Cyclone missile terminators do not! Except for putting on the wrong chest piece a few years ago when I assembled it. That sucks. :)

Anywho, pictures!

Also, white weapons are out! Just didn't like the looks of it. Red weapons are definately in!

Hey guys, decent sized update here I think. Too much real life getting in the way lately, but here's my progress on various battle brothers!

And a new battle brother to enter the painting fold with his Crusader pattern chainsword :D
