13th Company Project

Firenze

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. As you may know, the Fang has been creating its own 13th Company codex for the past year (about). However, the project has slowed to a crawl.

We desperately need more contributions, help to balance, background write ups, art and playtests. Just £2 a month... ^_^ I kid.

But what would be nice is some new faces assisting the few still beavering away. Come on lads, lets get this dex done.

For Russ!

Reading through some of the posts Iwas getting a bad "feeling" about what was being developed as it was considerably different from how I envision the 13th.

^^^THIS has calmed my distaste considerably as the Units chosen are those from my vision. They have been cut off from significant support and resupply. I could not fathom how they would have bikes (or any vehicles for that matter) and be able to maintain them. I CAN easily see wolfpacks as they can feed to be sustained and fit very much in with the "fluffy" feral nature of a Battle Company surviving on hteir own and scavenging what they need as they need it (ammo, armor and the other basic/high priority necessities).

I will continue reading and getting a better feel for the efforts on this subject and offer anything of value in future posts here. I appreciate the efforts and can also appreciate the difficulties and hurdles encountered. I used to game with a group (when I first started into 40K) that was trying to simplify the Battle System to mimic that of Warzone (every roll was base 10). Then VOR came out and we endeavored to combine the "character" of that game with the battle system of Warzone using (majority) 40K minis. It was fun butthere were a LOT of hurdles, arguements, inputs, math musings and so on. Not an easy process to endeavor upon, especiall when attempting to wrangle with canon that for the most part doesn' exist. Being true and fair to the project can be difficult to say the least. Sorry for the tangent.

Ales all around, guys.

Whilst Lurking I saw this thing start with a positive, optimistic feel to it. It was unfortunate to watch it slowly decline and degrade into nothing more than a few people doing this, doing that etc so I stopped browsing the project's progress, thinking it had been left for dead, with 2,3,4 people accasionly commenting on things etc,etc.... :)

If this things getting picked up again i'de be happy to help with something. I'm not really a fan of the 13th co as it goes but I don't want to see everyone's hard work end up as something that 'got done'. I want see it get done 'well', really.

Even if it ultimately ends up being a force I won't play. Which it is- but that won't stop me helping out.

I'll throw in a few playtests over the next couple of weeks and report them in the thread - My army isn't 13th company in any form but I've had a look through the codex and rules and am game to give it a try - lots of interesting and dynamic units, and having bedded in the latest edition full codex, a different set of rules to use is always fun.

Other than playtesting, what other stuff are you looking for?

Well, I guss I could try to help out with the story-part. I'm going away for 2 weeks, and then I got some exams, but in the middle of January I should be able to pick up the pace of my writing (need to practice anyway). Since I am not a native english-speaker I'd need someone to edit my works tough, spelling and stuff like that.

I'll try to playtest also, but since my Alpha Legion is growing I need to test them for an upcoming tournament <_<

I can help with things i have a lot of space wolves fluff in my head. I also know a bit about the 13th company. Let me know what you want me to do ;). I can't really play test because my SW army is not even complete yet and i am a fairly new player.
Some people to help write background fluff for units, mini stories and background of the 13th company such as famous battles .etc.

I can make a new couple of banners for people who contribute :P (bribery is such a good thing )

Count me in  So what units do you want me to give a short story or fluff on?

Thanks guys for all the support. I shall be collating what we have into one thread ASAP (maybe DV8 can assist in his 'Codex As it Stands' thread).

Fluffwise, at the moment all units need an entry, and a couple of people need to start the main background. Try to keep things as canon as possible! :to:

Well I plan on doing some painting in my local GW on thursday and will bring my 2nd ed Wolf dex, Eye of Terror and 5th ed Wolf dex to get in the mood whilst waiting for things to dry.

Nothing quite like pencil and notebook to start a background (this happens for all my roleplaying characters)

Are we using the ragnar books as cannon for this?

I would offer to the principals in this effort that within the Ragnar Saga, there is mention of specific individuals that could be equated with the "Special Characters" sections of every other Codex produced. Wouldn't be out of "character" to include them as options to be chosen by players. I'll have to go back through to get the names and details provided so that this may be explored further in the process.

I don't know how it might translate into gameplay, but I recall there being the mention of "wards" placed by the Wolf Priest to mask the hideout of the 13th Company. Perhaps in a Defensive scenario it could reduce LOS by d6 at the begginning of the game for the first turn or something when facing Chaos (or specifically Tzeench) or in an Ambush scenario it could offer a d6 pregame move at the beginning of the first turn by one 13th Company units of the opponents choice (trying to incorporate balance with any advantages).

Yea in the book they have the following characters: Torvald The Reaver (rune priest), Bulveye (wolf lord). If you want me too i can look into them and make entrys and possibly stats for them.

Let me know if you want me to

Yea the wards were made by a rune priest and/or rune priests (most likely Torvald)

as for the rules something like what you have mentioned would work. I think you could make it a rune priests physic power. this idea may be over powered but "the rune priest and any unit that he is with can infiltrate" something like that maybe? let me know what you think.

Having read through the codex a little I was wondering what was the reasoning for allowing Wolf Lords to take TWM?

Fluff wise would these not be lost through a war of attrition? Although perhaps they are using some xenos creature instead.

There may be a few TWM left who knows though. I highly doubt they would use any zenos creatures as mounts though. You do make a good point.

The 13th company as I know it and I haven't read the whole thing do what is needed to survive. Most if not all Chapters would baulk at the idea of using scavenged equipment from Chaos Marines so it was just a thought. A darker one could be that they ride daemons but it would most certainly be heretical to think it.

From what i've read you are correct they use armor and weapons from CSM to survive but as you said they would not ride daemons into battle. I'm assuming they put the TWM as an option becuase it is in the current SW codex and a good amount of players like having that option. And it does not say in any of the cannon whether they have TW or not.
