13th Company Project

^^^THIS has calmed my distaste considerably as the Units chosen are those from my vision. They have been cut off from significant support and resupply. I could not fathom how they would have bikes (or any vehicles for that matter) and be able to maintain them. I CAN easily see wolfpacks as they can feed to be sustained and fit very much in with the "fluffy" feral nature of a Battle Company surviving on hteir own and scavenging what they need as they need it (ammo, armor and the other basic/high priority necessities).

Ales all around, guys.

Growler, I am glad that you like it. I didn't like the direction that the group project was going in either, so I just knocked out this Fandex version on my own in my BnC blog. It isn't associated with the group effort with the subforum link at the top of the Fang.

Thanks for the ales, V

Having read through the codex a little I was wondering what was the reasoning for allowing Wolf Lords to take TWM?

Fluff wise would these not be lost through a war of attrition? Although perhaps they are using some xenos creature instead.

Wolves breed, so it made sense for me to include Thunderwolves, just like the old 13th Company list included packs of regular Fenrisian Wolves. Since I was adding Thunderwolves, an asset that I believe fits well with the 13th Company theme, I removed the option for Bikes, which used to be available. If vehicles/equipment are nearly impossible to maintain, it made much more sense to me to remove the machines and add the monsters.

Valerian, is the Mark of the Wulfen option supposed to be the C:SW d6+1 attacks or the proposed +d3 attacks from the 13th Company threads? I couldn't find anything specifying.

In my version of the Fandex, Mark o the Wulfen is the same as in the Codex:SW. A Wolf Lord can get +d3 attacks by taking the Saga of the Wulfen King.

Thanks for the clarification. Valerian do you agree that the Ragnar books are usable cannon and that the characters from the books should be used as special character hq selections?

V, I really like your version of your "Fandex". It seems to really stand true to the original Eye of Terror codex. I liked the idea of the 13th Company project but as I watched it progress it seemed to get more and more over-powered. Now before anyone gets upset about that I do have to clarify that these are my OPINIONS and should be taken as such. With that being said many of the people I play with completely rule out me even using it for a game as soon as they see it. Now I do have to give the people who work on the project kudos for their work as I couldn't do it myself. As a 13th Company fan I really want to see this project balanced and finished and I will try to put my input where I can. But for now I think my friends will be more accepting of your "Fandex" V.

just recently read though the codex for the 13th and i like most of it but certain parts i think need work

as suggested above no bikes and replace them with twc.

As for vehicles i don't know what will work have them limited by iron priests is a good idea. This army needs vehicles to be playable but that doesn't mesh well with cannon. S for now it will work fine. Everything else looks good though. Nice job to all that worked on it.

Still not sure on that TWC thing :) maybe some bestial variants could remain but it just seems unnecessary and silly for the marines to cart wolves around. And if they're in the warp, what could this do to the mind of a wolf? Just can't see heaps lasting long.

Are you not already familiar with the 13th Company army list from the Eye of Terror campaign book from 3rd Edition? If you are not, then you should know that the GW design team gave them packs of Fenrisian Wolves. I've just given them the new, bigger wolves, too. Not so much of a stretch, I should think.

No I don't have access to the eye of terror book and you make a point, however I still think riding them is a bit too much of a stretch. But maybe not. A ride into battle and dismount unit? A pack of threethunder wolves turn into five wolves plus three marines. Just throwing it out there....

In my opinion the TWC adds a fast attack unit that this army is really going to need. Fluff wise its possible and its a good fit for the army. Again just my opinion though....

Thank you. That was the intent; make an army list that was updated to 5th edition, competitive yet balanced, while staying true to the original.

I hope that they are. If you get any games in, please let me know how they go.

I have a big Apocalypse game on New Years eve but I think I will wait till I have a one on one game to do a proper test. I've been itching to unleash my 45 Wulfen on a big army of Thousand Sons! For RUSS!!!

I'll let you know how it goes.

V one question I have is what do you think about the blood feud rule??

I'm not a fan, which is why I left it out. It devalues the points you pay for a Wolf Toothe Necklace, and for higher WS on characters. These types of rules have fallen out of favor with GW designers, too; I can't think of any recent codex that has them.
