Battle Brush Studios' Work in Progress Log

Recommended Posts

Hi, people of B&C.

I'm running a commission painting service called Battle Brush Studios (hence the title of this thread :P ) and in here I plan to showcase the miniatures I'm working on, how I proceed and so on. In the past five years, I had great experiences with project logs because they are an awesome motivational tool to keep me on the task and it provides you with new pictures every few days. So make sure you have a look in here once in a while. Feel free to comment, critisize, ask questions and so on.

To contribute to the mix of miniatures and armies shown here, I would like to use this thread to showcase the miniatures and models I paint for my commission painting studio, for ebay and some of my own miniatures as well (if I ever find time to paint my own minis that is :P)

Anyway, Here's a list of the main things I'm currently working on:

.) Warhammer 40,000 Space Wolves army

.) Warhammer 40,000 Chaos Space Marines army

.) Space Hulk (2009) box

.) Warhammer 40,000 Death Korps of Krieg army

...as well as a few single miniatures.

I know, this is very much 40k-dominated at the moment. Maybe it's just that time of the year.

I would love to do some more diverse stuff though so feel free to contact me about any crazy model idea you got.

To get an idea of what I do, here's a little overview of some works of mine. I'll start with the Space Wolves army I'm currently doing because this is Bolter and Chainsword after all and I should keep with the theme.

This is a rather large commission - an army of Space Wolves. It's still going on and I might start a project log about these some time soon but here's a look of what happened so far:

Firstly, welcome to the B&C!

Secondly, I must say, they are very well painted. I'm personally not too keen on the plasma gun ending, but that's just me, so don't worry. I'm sure you'll get at least some people interested on the board.

Hoping to see some more!

@S.Bloodhowl: Thanks a lot for the compliment and the heads up. I'm pretty much a noob on B&C and didn't know what we're actually not allowed to post anything but SM, CSM and SoB. :( But I respect that and will only post power-armoured stuff on here.

@Battle-Brother Ludovic: Thank you for the nice welcome. There's a few things I just can't shake off - that's .) Painting power weapon blades blue (at least on my own minis) and .) painting plasma weapon muzzles in that red-orange-yellow scheme. Must be my mid-90s roots in 40k. :P

Here's some more pictures of the army:

I rather like the red/black power weapon scheme for the Terminators, that's pretty darn nice. Overall that's a wonderful looking army my only critiques would be that the Long Fangs look a little young, they're not grizzled and weathered enough for my preferences, the Grey Hunters look older and more experienced than these guys en masse I think.

The other minor thing is that Wolf Cav look like they're sitting a touch far back on their mounts. That said, it's anatomically the most logical place for the to sit allowing the wolf full freedom of movement for running, jumping and biting etc. so I can see why they're sitting there, they just look a touch odd at first glance compared to traditional horse mounted cavalry I guess and for that matter the Wolf Lord who seems to be sitting a bit further forward in a more 'normal' pose, that might be the angle of the photo mind you.

These models are unreal. I love the dark, granite grey you're doing, much better than the baby blue or even the lighter greys I've seen for SWs. My favourites are the scouts, who are awesome and full of character, and the LF sergeants with the wolf heads. I also really like the red/black power weapons, something a bit different and who's to say what a power field would look like?

Only slight criticism is that some of the poses look a bit wooden, kind of expect SWs to all be running madly at the enemy [except for LFs]. However absolutely loving this log.

@SCC: Thanks for your comment. I think it's a mix of the angle and the mini itself that makes the first Wolf Lord look like he sits more to the front than the other wolf riders.

@tyrannosaurus: Thanks muchly. :D

@Captain Mick: Cheers.

@sniperous: Yeah, I figured I should do something funny with one of them markers but couldn't think of anything better than ATM. Mostly because I had no clue what this thing could be so I thought it could be an ATM as well. :D

@sniperous: Thanks for the info. Seems like my bandwidth exceeded way earlier this month. Sorry about that. The pictures should be up again in about four days.

@averykess: Sorry to have turned you into a sad panda. I wasn't aware that I wield this kind of magical powers. ;)

@tylermenz: The pictures will be up again in about four days. Relax.

Update!

Alrighty, tiny little update - SW Rhinos/Razorbacks are now dirtied up:

First off, I hope all of you had great holidays. I'm sorry for the pictures not showing up properly. It will be fixed soon. Until then, please have a look at some older SW pictures here Space Wolves Gallery. It has Thunderwolf Cavalry and Terminators. :D

edit:Yaaarrrghh, even my avatar is affected. :D Time to change something about my file system I guess. ;)

@Disruptor_fe404: Thanks for the compliment. :cuss

Hi, my second Step-by-Step painting guide just went online. My first one a few months ago was a load of work but this one goes way beyond what I did in the first one.

It's an in-depth description on how I painted the latest incarnation of Ultramarines Captain Sicarius and the word file is close to 50 pages including pictures. Here is the finished piece:

@brother hrolf: Part airbrush, part drybrush, part washes, a little playing around with a sponge...everything i could think of really. :) Judging from your name, you're are a SW player?

So here's the finishing individual shots. You've seen some of those already but these are bigger pictures with last minute changes, finished basing and such stuff.

@MagicMan: Well, I'm glad I can make some money on the side with what I love to do but if I was after the big money, I wouldn't do this. :o

Okay, after this is finished, I should wrap up the Space Hulk project. Here's what happened so far:

Here's what's left to do:

.) Resculpt a little bit that snapped off

.) Finish painting Sergeant Gideon

.) Paint the bases.

First, I'll paint Gideon:

I'd say he's halfway done. If I'm really cool, I'll be able to finish him tomorrow. I'll let you know if I manage to be cool. :D
