Boshea
Just starting out and since this forum has been such a great resource of information I figured I'd show off my first set of marines. Any advice would be welcome. Also these pictures make them look way worse then they actually are. Flash and close-up were not kind to them. http://i56.tinypic.com/1y3iph.jpg These were 3 I did for practice before starting on the others. I screwed up the paint mix on the middle one, and I really like how the one of the right turned out. Noticed after the picture that I forgot to highlight the chest. http://i55.tinypic.com/zlb3wz.jpg I honestly didn't realize that I posed them all the same until I started to paint them. Just means my next batch will have more chainswords, and different poses. http://i51.tinypic.com/2w539tv.jpg He's a little rough, but I really like how he turned out. Wasn't sure if the skulls on the back were trophies or decoration, so I went with what I thought would be the safest bet http://i51.tinypic.com/1115t6v.jpg I wanted my icon bearer to stand out, and I think it turned out pretty cool. The two things I learned from this batch is that I need to clean up the pieces better before painting, and it'd be a lot easier to paint certain pieces before gluing them together (two-handed weapons mainly). blackbabyjesus
please tell me the icon bearer is a joke, and you have a helmet hidden under all that.... Aside from that, I'd suggest investing in some washes, Devlan Mud will add depth to the red if painted into the recesses. Thinned Badab Black will do wonders for the dark blue and unthinned will give your metallics some definition. Also, good bases set models off nicely, plain black bases look unfinished and a bit rubbish.
Chaplain Hiltraud
I think the banner bearer looks awesome! :P haha To me they look a little bright, as the comment above suggested; get your hands on some washes!! They are very easy to use and make a world of difference. Try some Asurman Blue wash and as an alternative to Devlan Mud you could try Gryphonne Sepia wash. Also, when doing red over a dark colour try painting an initial layer of grey then layer red over the top of that. When I first started bases I had no idea, it's all trial and error and if you like them black keep them that way :) I look forward to seeing more! MagicMan
I lol'd when i saw the banner bearer. Nice work apart from that, though.
Captain Mick
Well painted models, only thing missing are the lightning strike`s at the armor.
Argon
Other than the bat wings, which I hate, these have promise. Keep it up. (Don't worry about it. I hate all Night Lords with bat wings equally. Seriously, Curze, why would you let your men wear conspicuous headgear like that when you're supposed to excel in infiltration and showing up out of nowhere?) MagicMan
By just poking their heads above cover, the Night Lords can masquerade as a flock of low flying bats, and thus surprise their enemies completely. Thats why.

Yours in Honour and Faith Chaplain Hiltraud I really think its the flash from the camera that is making them look bright. When comparing them with the Nightlords in the codex in natural light they look to be the same color. All I'm using is Black, Necron Abyss, and Regal Blue thinned 1:1. Washes are something I'll definitely be picking up the next chance I get. Just wanted to focus on the basics to start with. Well painted models, only thing missing are the lightning strike`s at the armor. I've misplaced the brush I did the lightning with on the practice one. If it turns up I'll probably just do all the units in one sitting after they're all painted. Other than the bat wings, which I hate, these have promise. Keep it up. (Don't worry about it. I hate all Night Lords with bat wings equally. Seriously, Curze, why would you let your men wear conspicuous headgear like that when you're supposed to excel in infiltration and showing up out of nowhere?) I agree that they seem rather impractical. After I use up all my conversion bits, I'll probably do an entire squad in pre-heresy skull face style. Boshea
So apparently I'm an idiot and forgot to shake my paint up before doing any of these. Only took me 10 marines and 4 raptors till I noticed. /facepalm http://i53.tinypic.com/eskvgn.jpg They cleaned up pretty well at least, and they don't look too different from the marines http://i53.tinypic.com/been2u.jpg Managed to find the brush, and had time to do the lightning on one of them. http://i55.tinypic.com/1zf7laa.jpg http://i55.tinypic.com/j63la8.jpg http://i54.tinypic.com/33z48c4.jpg My lightning still needs work

Boshea
I'm starting to think this may be a little too WIP for the Hall of Honor, since I still have a fair amount of detail work to do on these. If its possible, could I get this thread moved to WIP? Anyway got another batch done to replace the practice marines in my first squad, and completed my second squad. Did the backpacks in a different style this time, and really like the results. Also painted them before attaching the right arm and backpack which made it easier. http://i54.tinypic.com/v78f1l.jpg Got my first pair of Meltas done in this batch. Need to get a hold of two more so that both squads can have two marines with Meltas. http://i51.tinypic.com/11tua7n.jpg A more traditional Icon Bearer this time. Tried posing these two up different also. http://i52.tinypic.com/2eykm8i.jpg The squads look a lot better now when I mix in a few with different poses. Debating if I'll add anymore bayonets to the squads. To the people who find my first Icon Bearer silly, cool, and/or terrifying, just wait until I get around to doing my Skull Champion.
