Jorre
Hey guys I am working on Astorath the grim right now! I must say I have never had more fun painting a mini! I've also never put more effort into painting one, I am almost finished but I am I would really like some advise on how you would paint his hair. I am going to sick with the crowd and pain his hair black. Has anyone got any tips or color combos I should use to paint and highlight black hair, or even white dwarf references I can look up ? I'll post photos when I am finished!
Midnightmare
As his hair is textured (not flat!), drybrusshing works pretty well. I just go chaos black base, codex grey then fortress grey highlights. Obviously the more grey you add into the mix the the lighter the hair becomes. Maybe even mix a little bit of regal blue into the black mix before adding grey (yes really!) and he will be fit for a l'oreal advert before you know it B)

TheMouth
I recomend going with 1 of two ways. 1. A dark grey, then a black wash or inking...it falls into the recesses and after a coat or two turns the grey darker as well...helps show depth and highlights. 2. The other option, paint the hair black, then do a 50/50 mix of grey and black, paint the raised areas ( do not dry brush it ends up making the hair look weird ), then go through with the grey you first mixed for final highlight. Chaplain Gunzhard
You could also highlight with blue... it will give it more of a greasier, darker look.
